The german website ps4insider.de has summarized why the british magazin Edge thinks the PS4 is the only option for next-gen gamer.
The original website is in german.
"Driver was a technical achievement for PS1, a pioneer in cinematic gaming, and an often brutal challenge - TechStomper asks if its brand of 70s car chase antics still holds up."
Sadly youd be hard pressed to find any driving game with better physics these days. But the draw distance really kills it for me
Gran Turismo for PlayStation launched a sub-genre and revolutionised console racing - TechStomper asks is it still worth playing in 2024.
I'm not big into sim racing, but I got sucked into the hype for this one from magazines back then. I just played arcade mode and that was enough for me to feel like I got my money's worth.
Yeah, it's definitely worth playing today. GT 2 has a few interesting fan made graphical mods when played on an emulator as well.
Cars back then had much more personality then those we see today. Modern cars all about the led lights and the tablet size screens and they all seem alike, back then they could be simpler in design but had tons more personality.
That Corvette Stingray to this day is one of the most ferocious whips ever driven. Overpowered against other cars yes. But to drive it and be that close to losing control, but being in command around those curves, just can't be duplicated.
HiFi mode is also something I miss. There should be a mode in today's GT where it's Mano o Mano and the detail and resolution jump full throttle. In today's games, Max Ray Tracing and lighting and textures to make it look even more real..
Not according to Former Playstation president Jim Ryan for he told Time that he doesn't see why anyone would play old games given the advancements in fidelity achieved today.

The original PlayStation library has dozens of classics long since forgotten - TechStomper unearths five of these gems which have been lost to time for one reason or another.
Disruptor PS1, a pre Goldeneye console FPS from 1996 (with Command and Conquer type FMV cutscenes) and the first game by a pre Spyro Insomniac Studios directed by Mark Cerny. A good game for its time, and pre Bioshock use of telekinesis type powers. A game sadly almost completely lost to time
We need to bring back the golden era of ps1 & ps2 .
We need to see quality games developed with alot of passion to make gamers satisfied .
We need to benefit from new AI technology to bring something new to games something like " nemesis systems " that used in shadow of morder and upgrade it to next level
Because it's the best console for the best price. I could list the reasons, but we all already know them. The PS4 is the best console and everyone agrees. It's hurts some peoples feelings, but that doesn't stop it from being true. End of story.
It's the only option (right now) because it's the only safe bet. There's so much turmoil going on within Microsoft and within the Xbox division, not to mention the PR nightmare they're cleaning up, not to mention they're scrambling to get the Xbox One out the door and the ones who will suffer will be early adopters.
Sure, Xbox One might one day be worth the money for some people, but PS4 is the only safe, rational bet right now. Xbox One is a gamble, pure and simple.
If you like Kinect games and chatting through Kinect in a room full of kids...Xbox is the one for you.
However if you like Free to play games (blocked on XBOX) Indie games (closed publishing on XBOX) New and reinvent IPS (The Last Of Us, Beyond 2 souls, Drive club, The Order 1886, New IP from GG) And upgradeable Hard disk ( Locked to the 500 gb on XBOX and its not enough... trust me!) And the best exclusives on consles (GOW, GT, TLOU, INFAMOUS, Shadowfall, Little big planet,) plus free games every month with the potential to rival steam with Gaiki and... steam on console. With the greatest hand held console integration ever(sorry Nintendo)
Also the addition of games that allow cross platform play with the PC (WARFRAME) AND a touchpad for RPGS & Playstation Eye with a keypad coming soon... Its the next best thing to a keyboard in mouse (Although not as good) All at a lower price and loaded with extra free games? Then there is only one choice... The Playstation 4
Because of the perspective of the writer of that article.
People all have different perspectives and tastes, and that what ultimately moves you into buying your console of choice.
I can perfectly understand that people think, hey, i like the sony games, and its a 100 cheaper.
But other people like me think, i like the MS games, sure its a 100 more, but i want to play the games that interest me.
Truth be told, main reason why XboxOne isn`t a consideration for me is because my room is way too small for kinect. Why would I buy the console if I wouldn`t be able to use a critical function of it?
