Hands-on with the PS4 and Xbox One’s next-gen racers (2D-X)

Forza 5. Need for Speed Rivals. DriveClub. Gran Turismo 6. Find out how these next-gen racing games handle.

WorldGamer3949d ago

I could be wrong, but I thought GT6 was releasing only on PS3. I don't think there has been any word on GT6 for the PS4.

Did I miss something?

windblowsagain3948d ago

Still to be announced.

I don't think people want a port, unless they add new things, but you never know.

Still nothing touches this.

It's like everyone will just pick the game on the system they own anyway. But there is no denying that Gran Turismo is the Godfather to all this. Then with Drive Club being said to be the most advanced graphically detailed car racing game ever created. It just kind of makes you lean towards Sony more. But again, people will just stand by whatever console they own regardless.

Chris123947d ago

Drive Club the most graphically advanced racing game? You did read the article, right? You did see the video's from E3, right? Take the blinkers off, or are you about to roll out the 35% build claim to support your fanboyism?

ZBlacktt3947d ago

I don't mind educating those who are unaware or didn't pay attention.

"Every car has 250,000 polygons within it. That number is just staggering and yet it is a completely factual statement about the upcoming game ‘Drive Club.’ On top of that already lofty achievement, the developers have set out to find the perfect balance between simulation and arcade racing."

Polysix3947d ago

Frame rate isn't everything - graphically advanced for a reason. Forza 5 looks like a 360 game in comparison and is missing so many expected features.

humbleopinion3947d ago

@ZBlacktt
Polygon count doesn't really matter unless we know what LOD is involved: After all 250,000 polygons is actually just half of GT5 polycount for photo mode and a quarter of the million polygons for some cars in Forza 4 autovista mode - and these are last gen game.

The review here actually mentions that Drive Club looks very bad for a next gen game. But it's a work in progress so let's give them the benefit of doubt and just see how it turns out on launch.

Chris123947d ago

Forza 5 looks like a 360 game and Driveclub looks amazing? Gosh, there is some desperate wumming going on.

I suggest you read this article again, plus all the others from those from people who attended E3. Driveclub was widely agreed to be disappointing and needs some dramatic improvements before release. Still, if you think big numbers are more important than what you're actually seeing with your eyes, then that's your prerogative. Perhaps when they've finished using 250,000 polygons on the cars they could spare some for the scenery? Hey guys, its positive MS news. Deal with it.

snipab8t3947d ago

Finally someone who is talking some sense around here.

givemeshelter3946d ago

If you post positive Microsoft or Nintendo news on this site be prepared to get slaughtered. It never goes down to well unfortunately...

snipab8t3947d ago

Haha fanboyism at its best.

Software_Lover3947d ago

It's a well known fact that polygon count increases with each generation.

ZBlacktt3947d ago

So on this site, random no named screen names account for more entitlement then the actual game developing professional who make it possible for all of us to experience and play the games they create. These random screen names think they are smart. Yet they sit here with zero to show for it. They think they know more then anyone else and that their opinion holds more weight.... again, more then the real professionals.

Chris123947d ago

Says the man that told us he was going to educate us by counting polygons rather than using their own eyes.

Is Need For Speed even relevant? How can anyone add NFS to a racing game list without noting The Crew?
Need For Speed has been off my radar after NFS2.
Don't get me wrong, they had some hits and misses since then, but overall its been all stale, try too hard, underperforming titles.
If you like Need For Speed, but hate Forza or Gran Turismo, you are dead to me.

Nfs shift and shift 2 unleashed on Pc with ptmu mod put forza and gt To shame mister

illtownNJONE3947d ago

ive watched a true 1080p video of forza 5 and its stunning seriously.....it just looks too clear and smooth i need this running on my tv now.......make me even more excited that I preordered mines ....oh btw gran turismo 6 looks stunning watchin the vids sometime the game looks like live footage it unbelivable

Gamingcapacity3947d ago

I feared that Drive Club would suffer from being 1st of a new franchise on a new console. It will still be a good game but we might have to wait for Drive Club 2 to get an epic game.

Knowing Evolution Studios they can make this into a great franchise. I'm a big fan of MotorStorm and they proven they can do realism from their WRC days.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85101d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio101d ago (Edited 101d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack101d ago (Edited 101d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972101d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183100d ago (Edited 100d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim101d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno101d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183100d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

Chocoburger101d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai101d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC101d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.

Comparing the New Grand Valley in Gran Turismo 7 to the Original

A detailed look at Gran Turismo 7's new track Grand Valley, judging its evolution from its former design and layout in Gran Turismo 6, side by side.

SullysCigar427d ago (Edited 427d ago )

Wow, crazy isn't it? The draw distance is vastly improved, the background textures too and there's ZERO shimmer now. And the replays are night and day!

EIDT: @below, Haha I didn't notice that!

IRetrouk427d ago

Yeah, theres a massive improvment all round, Looks amazing with the time of day transitions too, me and a couple online buddies jumped on earlier to try it out lol, did you notice the beach full of seals?

closed_account427d ago

That coastline looks amazing and I can only imagine it in VR! Looks like an entirely new course as far as scenery goes.

IRetrouk426d ago

Yeah, those views are going to be crazy when we are "there" can't wait!

PureBlood426d ago

Just got confirmation my PSVR2 is shipping by 24 hour courier, so I should have it tomorrow! I know nobody else cares, but I had to tell someone lol

GT7 will be my first game, as I want to test out my wheel - so excited - it's going to be awesome!

Deathdeliverer426d ago

I got my confirmation and date (22nd) showing for the charging station. The headset itself has been in “shipped-processing” status since last Friday. I’m like dang can I see the date? I was in the first round of preorders. Whenever it does get here, I’m ready. Going to go update everything and try to get over this cold.

PureBlood426d ago

Wish you better, bud, fingers crossed for your order too.

@S2Killinit - Thank you!

IRetrouk426d ago

I care👊🏻, mine is still saying prep for shipping😔

PureBlood426d ago

Thanks man 👊

Word of advice: be ready for the impromptu jig that happens when that email drops, it can be embarrassing..

DaReapa426d ago

Just got my second shipping confirmation email as well.

Man i caant wait. One day left!

Flawlessmic426d ago

I know you and a lot of people are excited for VR but dont sleep on sophy, sophy is the real game changer here!

After giving sophy a run last night, i can safely say the actual racing in future GT's is going to be Fu***** amazing!!!

even on intermediate on some tracks the AI was coming back at me on my waiting for me to slip, attacking the space if i left the door open for them, honestly felt like i was racing against people and not some very limited AI that once i passed them they may as well have been eliminated from the race like GT ai normally is.

pump it up to expert and its a real challenge to stay ahead, the next level up from expert man the AI kicked my ass, like badly.

i remember when sophy was first annouced all the nay sayers said its a pipe dream and we will never see it implemented and here we are a yr later and sophy is being tested in game for us to try out and is every good as whats been promised.

VR plus racing against sophy and wowww your not gonna feal like your actually racing for real anywhere else outside of gt.

sophy will change the game in gt8

S2Killinit426d ago

Hm I didnt realize it was like that. I didnt even know why there was so much hype about it. But thanknyou for explaining that. I mean I get it now.

But I’ll be seeing it in action tomorrow! Woot woot.

Flawlessmic426d ago

It's only for a limited time and only has 4 races but I encourage you and everyone else try it and see the difference compared to the normal Ai.

Sophy has slipped completely under the radar in this latest uodate
