The Jak & Daxter Collection Vita Review-TGH

TGH Writes: "Jak and Daxter began their legendary adventures on the PlayStation 2 at the hands of video game geniuses, Naughty Dog who brought Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted series, and the fantastic The Last of Us to the world of games. The Jak and Daxter series was Naughty Dog’s first new IP after their cheeky bandicoot and offered an open world to explore while still providing the same action/platforming gameplay that Crash Banicoot enjoyed. The Jak and Daxter Collection includes all three of the J&D games, meaning you’re getting Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II and Jak 3 – but no Jak X. Essentially it’s a great introduction to the series in glorious high definition."

They just ignore the framerate issues? They probably played the PS3 version and just assumed the Vita version was identical...
I would give the PS3 version a 9.5/10 and the Vita version a 4/10. It was a horrible port.

Ilovetheps53944d ago

I agree. The Vita version is just awful. Jak and Daxter is my favorite new IP from last gen. I just found the Vita version nearly unplayable. It's best on the PS3. I'd even play the PS2 version before I played the Vita version. In my opinion the PS2 version looks better and has a better framerate.

Snookies123944d ago

Yeah, I love my Vita and was REALLY excited for this, but they're obviously ignoring its issues. (Or didn't bother even playing it on the Vita.) I've heard numerous sources saying that it has bad issues. Which is a real shame. Would have loved Jak & Daxter on the go...

kB03944d ago

I agree with you but a 4/10 is over the top imo, I'd give it a 6-7.5 depending on how you feel about frame rates:P

It still packs in all three games, and it is definately playable.

Sony is getting very lazy with it's ports on the vita...Ratchet first now this....

Epic Mickey is no different but at least it looks really good!

TongkatAli3944d ago

Get Muramasa! you want flawless visuals, look no further.

Becuzisaid3944d ago

I beat Jak 1 on the Vita. Yes, it had a lower FR than what's ideal but was still perfectly playable. Jak 2 is much smoother (so far) and the graphics are definitely a step up. I've only had one FR hitch so far and that's when I crashed a car (and subsequently crashed the game). Have played Jak 3 yet but heard of FR issues, but if its anything like the first I'm not too worried.

Keep in mind I have not played other versions either in PS2 or 3. This is my first experience with this trilogy.

My score 9/10 for vita version.

SonyStyled3944d ago

Jak and Daxters a real treat. it stole my childhood and it was a blast revisiting it on PS3. its still shocking to me that the series had no loading times

Chapter113944d ago

Everyone gives it a 5/10 and they give it a 5/5. Yeah, they're not fanboys or anything

Undrey3944d ago

Have any of you naysayers played it? I have little to no frame rate issues, it's at a constant 25fps which my eyes adjust to overtime.

Indeed it was. Naughty dog at their absolute best

MadLad904d ago

The original is still a favorite of mine, but I didn't like the dark and gritty turn they took the series.

Ratchet75904d ago

The first true next Gen game on ps2.
Before that game came out I really felt like my ps2 was not as powerful as Sony advertised it. Clearly, I was wrong
😉

Teflon02904d ago

I played Dark Cloud and NHL 2001 which were massive upgrades to PSOne and N64 titles. But I do think outside the fact I played Dark Cloud wrong and struggled to get anywhere because resource management at like 10 or 11 wasn't an ideal stress to give me lol, Jake and Daxter was the first big title I got that made me as impressed as the ritual scene opener for Dark Cloud. After those, think I got Final final fantasy X which looked godlike at the time and played spyhunter which I don't remember graphically. But the fluid essentially of Jak and Daxter running at high framerates, and coming from Conker, Banjo, DK64 and such. That game was a mega highlight and was my fav until Ratchet and Clank the next year

Terry_B904d ago

Tekken Tag Tournament was a true next gen game on PS2 and was one of its launch games.

VersusDMC904d ago

If Naughty Dog truly doesn't have an interest in Jak and Daxter they should give Ember Labs(Kena) a shot at it. I want a Jak game in their engine.

Outlawzz904d ago

Idk why they let this franchise die, ratchet and clank is still going strong

Teflon02904d ago

Probably ran it into the dirt with the dark jak stuff and didn't know how to properly bring it back. Personally hated the direction for Jak 2 and 3 while I did like 3. They should have stuck to making them like the first game but more expansive and bigger story

SonyStyled903d ago

2 and 3 were the best of the series IMO. Perfect combo of action adventure, platforming, gunplay, crude humor. The first was full of fun platforming, but lacking of the rich atmosphere and conflict the sequels had with the character the main and 2nd characters the sequels also had. “Oooh hey Jackie boy,” “hey sweet stripes, give me your digits.” Yea, I loved the crude humor of 2 and 3

yes to Resistance. Since I missed my chance on Heavenly Sword, I'd even be interested in a remaster of that.

bouzebbal2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

i want them to bring WipEout again.
That series is so amazing that we should have more of it.
Bring back MAG too sony.

UltraNova2172d ago

MAG 2 with a proper BR mode would do great these days. Sony is sitting on so many potential hits...

The_Jackel2172d ago

warhawk was soo much fun before mag came out

Army_of_Darkness2172d ago

I'd love a remastered trilogy of the resistance and Killzone series with enhanced visuals and framerate!

Stogz2172d ago

Absolutely, and its be nice if they included that co op mode from part 2, that was really fun.

bouzebbal2172d ago

Killzone 2 and 3 are 2 of my best ever games.
i don't think i want a remaster of these, i think we need a new episode inspired by these two.
No futuristic crap from SF..
KZ2 and 3 atmosphere was so good. SF was too shiny in comparison.

porkChop2172d ago

Resistance
The Legend of Dragoon
Syphon Filter
Socom
Twisted Metal

BlackTar1872172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

This is a great list. I'd trade resistances for pandemonium.

Or battle arena toshiden or star gladiator

I know not all are made by Sony but great Games from ps1

notachance2172d ago

a modern Syphon Filter would be sick

G3ng4r2170d ago

Swap out legend of dragoon for seriously anything.

Godmars2902172d ago

Twisted Metal with "realistic" driving physics?

bouzebbal2172d ago

TM on PS3 was a massive flop.. people asked for it but didnt support it so no chance it will come back.
i have never been a fan of the series so i can't really judge the game cause i haven't played it on PS3.

P_Bomb2172d ago (Edited 2172d ago )

I wonder if a free-to-play Twisted Metal might be the way to go with that IP?

Tweak EatSleepPlay’s engine, slap on a Battle Royale alongside the standard MP fare, and make money the free-to-play way. Starter packs, booster packs, maps, skins, currencies, whatever. Then Sony could get another MP option out there without tacking it on to SP games.

So, keep the budget modest and expectations realistic. People might not wanna fork out $60 for car combat anymore, but they did love Rocket League. As a FTP with paid features, TM could tap into that certain demographic.

Goldby2172d ago

There's already too many BR games out or announced. We don't need more of this. We need less, alot less

FallenAngel19842172d ago

There definitely needs to be a new Ape Escape game

Also The Legend of Dragoon needs a remaster

badz1492172d ago

APE ESCAPE!!

Me and I think many others have been craving for a new entry to this series since last gen but Sony didn't do anything about it and not even now. WTF Sony? and by this I mean a full fledged campaing, not those cheap mini games collection!

gangsta_red2172d ago

I'm all for a Twisted Metal that's designed in an arena shooter type setting.

Add some actual racing modes, support it with extra tracks and vehicles over time and I think that can be Sony's next big hit.

Gazondaily2172d ago

Twisted Metal Black was the one!

gangsta_red2172d ago

Agreed, loved that game!!!
