Final Fantasy XV: Square Enix Wanted to Remove UI, Hit Counters and Switching Characters

Final Fantasy XV director Tetsuya Nomura addressed issues of the game being an out-and-out action title without being an RPG. “It is being presented as ‘a Final Fantasy action game,’ but I wasn’t thinking of it like that.”

Why?!!! That would make it less of an RPG.

Snookies123954d ago

Yeah, but at least they realized that wouldn't work well with a Final Fantasy game. :]

shoddy3953d ago

I knew this would happen when they try to satisfy western audience.

Next they gonna make fps final fantasy.

Final fantasy is dead.

shoddy3953d ago

I like to control the whole party with different members who have different abilities.
To do this you need turn base.

bring back awsome magic and summons.

Snookies123953d ago

@shoddy - They didn't include it though...... They only thought about it. Doesn't matter if it isn't in the final product. They're not trying to appeal to western audiences. It's the same game it was years ago when they announced it.

Need4Game3953d ago

Moere PROOF that...

...FINAL FANTASY XV(15) will be an Action-MMORPG.

since "Fans" wants more "RPG",
and
SquareEnix needs more Funding to make a real "RPG".

You've been warned.

pompombrum3954d ago

Well that's the idea.. Nomura has even came out calling it an action game. Obviously they want to try and make it FF like too but tbh for those looking to rekindle that awesomeness of past FF games, you probably won't find it here.

Donnieboi3954d ago

Not having NPC's and dungeons would make it less of an RPG. I think what you mean to say is that it would be less of a TRADITIONAL JAPANESE Turn-Based RPG (which FF series is known for being).

iamtehpwn3954d ago

It is amusing how opinions of Versus have sobered up since it was re-revealed as FFXV.

trenso13953d ago

right? When it was versus all you heard was "this is square enix saving grace game" or "this is the true final fantasy game" Now its FFXV its all "its action game and nothing like a real final fantasy"

Garbanjo0013954d ago

Guilty, I would still play it. Even though it wouldn't have nearly as much RPG type stuff in it. Although I like the concept of it as it is now, taking out the character switch, or the numbers thing would just mean it's God of War with FF characters, and that's just boring.

Irishguy953951d ago

But it will have as much "RPG type stuff" as FF series. Turn based system =/= RPG. FF is just associated with turn based combat. The turn based was never what RPG's meant.

Snookies12
i know,i just saying because FFXIII was bad,and you see what
strange experimental stuff they trying to do...

Snookies123954d ago

Read the story man, they didn't do it. Just that the idea was brought up, but ultimately shot down.

Donnieboi3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

@Prcko: Yeah man u should read b4 u post. Namoura is the reason why we even have any hope that this FF will actually be a decent one.

@Snookies:
Good lawd, sir--that's a whole lotta bubbles!

KingKelloggTheWH3954d ago

Im glad the combat is how it is,it looks very fun and like it isnt just a button masher.

dark-hollow3954d ago

It looked like a half assed DMC with the usual "cinematic™" sequences.

I didn't mind versus as a spin off, but a main final fantasy games? What happened to the turn based combat?

KingKelloggTheWH3954d ago

Final Fantasy was originally intended to be an action game but wasnt due to tech.

Nate-Dog3954d ago

Why does the article writer keep saying we don't know if it'll be an RPG? Nomura has spoken multiple times about the world map, the return of an airship, and being able to explore as far as the eye can see apart from mountains. I doubt we're going to get a game with such a large world which is linear.

Adapt, change, and survive. It's good that game companies like these switch things up every now and then. If not, the whole industry will stagnate. Every console generation a new generation of gamers flood in. People can cry, bitch, and wine all they want. I personally like to see what Square Enix has up their selves for next gen.

NihonjinChick3954d ago

Change is not always good in the industry. The average reviews for Resident Evil 6 prove that.

When you change you are taking a risk of losing fans of the series and are also risking the quality of the games by trying to appeal to too many people.

flipflopfacts3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

In a develop's mindset. You are the creator. The consumer does not know what they want. Developers have to make the consumers want their product. It's always a hit and miss with any product. You cannot safely assume everyone will like the same thing.

Did you know you were going to like Final Fantasy VII before it came out? NO, the developer makes it and you the consumer judge if it's a worth while purchase.

"When you change you are taking a risk of losing fans of the series and are also risking the quality of the games by trying to appeal to too many people."

Bring up Final Fantasy VII again. By most people argue Final Fantasy VII was the biggest and successful of the franchise going from 2d to 3d. Innovation is now their priority as a company. Sorry to say it but big companies will look and sale figures and stock holder over fans. THEY are a big corporation and not here to please everyone(which is virtually impossible). Thanks to your purchase Final Fantasy will never be the same.

Yeah, you can't please everyone but change can leave you pleasing no one. It can result in poor sales and reception. Change is not always good.

As I said before, change comes along with many risk.

flipflopfacts3954d ago

Innovation good or bad, we'll just have to wait and see.

We can't bring back Square to its former glory and over the years I have come to my senses to accept them for who they are. Their games are not the best but highly enjoyable.

Roccetarius3954d ago

FFXV just screams ''me too'' with the way most games are heading, and i think a few other gamers feel the same way.

flipflopfacts3954d ago

You guys sound like a bunch of crybabies because you're not getting what you want. I'm glad that Square Enix ditched you guys. I swear. When did gamers become so entitled to getting something. BE GLAD SQUARE IS STILL MAKING RPGS. At least we GOT something to play... BE THANKFUL

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled6d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog138d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake138d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic137d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan138d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman139d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator138d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno138d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior138d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake138d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
