E3 always gives a great glimpse into what publishers have in store for the RPG fan. Walking the show floor, it was easy to discover which companies are making the genre its bread and butter.
Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.
I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence
can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?
Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.
@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.
The top producer of Square Enix flagship Dragon Quest franchise is stepping down from the role, following delays in developing the next installment of the popular series.
Please o please don't turn dragon quest into final fantasy square enix we dont wont that. Dragon quest works well just as it I. Plus you'll piss off Japanese fans to.
Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
The NIS America March Savings Sale 2024 has started on the Nintendo eShop, which has seen 21 Nintendo Switch games receive temporary discounts.
There are two I'm always keeping an eye out for:
1. Nintendo. They've been picking up the slack left over by Square-Enix' incompetence to publish big RPGs overseas--thanks to them, we got the fantastic Dragon Quest VI remake, Dragon Quest IX, and will be getting Bravely Default and (presumably) the Dragon Quest VII remake.
2. Falcom. These are the guys behind some of the best "unknown" JRPGs in the west--the Ys series which, AFAIK, could very well be THE longest-running RPG series that's still active (it pre-dates DOS) and the Legend of Heroes series. They're a small development studio that publishes independently (i.e. Indy Devs) so they're not able to do quite as much as we might like, but they have been supporting the Playstation Vita, which is nice--and have been bringing over PC games and releasing them on Steam, which is even nicer.
The other big publishers--namely Namco-Bandai and ATLUS--typically bring over virtually everything and anything, and are much less consistent in terms of quality, so I don't really keep an eye out for their releases.
I support any publishers that wants to localise any JRPGs that I am interested with, like NIS America, Atlus, Xseed and other publishers. They gave us players to have a chance to play unique RPGs like Hyperdimension Neptunia series, Atelier series, Disgaea series, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and many more.
