Current Gen or Next Gen: When should a game be released on both sets of consoles?

TLOU PS4? your words make me cry

SuburbanHell3956d ago

I don't know, o-Sunny-o may be onto something. With the ridiculously great reviews the game is getting, Sony would be wise to put out a next-gen version. Sure everyone will have played the hell out of it by the time the PS4 launches, but with the game being as good as it is, I'm sure many would love to revisit, especially if they had to trade in their PS3 to help afford their PS4.

answer to article: Developers need money and there is more money in this gen then next gen. Duh. Why would you make it exclusive to next gen when there are millions more still on current gen?

SuburbanHell3956d ago

Point of article wasn't saying shove everything to exclusive to next gen, but why keep it exclusive to current gen when there's more money to be had if a game is released on both generation's consoles.

Luckily, where we are gaming technology wise, even the old hardware (PS3, 360 and WiiU) is adequate enough that developers can now almost always release for both old and new hardware, and both demographics of gamer can experience a full and satisfying "good" game. Most gaming experiences right now and in the next couple/few years will be perfectly doable on both, with the only real drawbacks are lower quality graphics and maybe a slower framerate.....but stiill a fine experience.

Only the future games that will be REALLY showcasing new hardware will you see games just not possible on PS3 and 360 without being cut to pieces. But imo, pretty much gone are the days when a gamer like me will get conned into the PS2 port of GRAW2 for example (*shudders*), expecting it to be the same game just with downgraded graphics and less people online. The PS360 version of CoD Ghost and BF4 for instance, truly will be just downgraded graphics and less people online. They aren't going to be chopped up, useless games that no one would really want to play like GRAW2 on PS2 was.

It's certainly time for next-gen hardware, but that's really only because PS3 and 360 have so little RAM. If they both had like 4Gb, they'd both hardly be maxed out yet even.......at least imo considering how much devs can do with what little is there now.

A game should be released on as many platforms that can host it IMO. unless of course its first party.

Personally I hope every major title from 2014 on is only PS4/XBO/PC. PS3/360 will be 7/8 years old when the new consoles come out. Technology has advanced a lot in that time and it would be nice to see the big games fully utilizing it. The problem with releasing on older systems as well is that the basic game design gets limited to that hardware (and 512mb ram). I've been playing PS3/360 games at higher resolution and fidelity on PC for years. It's the core game that needs improving now.

By Fall 2014 on the biggest AAA releases, by Fall 2015 for all others. The last thing I want to see is developers holding back on what they can do with the PS4 and XboxOne's power, because they want the PS3/360 versions to look and play the same in comparison.

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing691d 12h ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy851d 10h ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all

We are going to see a lot of crap South Park products since they sold out to paramount years ago. It's their IP they can sell out, of course; it just means the quality of their show has tanked and other products as well. Nevertheless, they put on excellent musicals, but those haven't been sold to a mega corporation.

cammers199527d ago

They said awhile ago that Ubisoft holds contract rights to the main flagship South Park games. So like stick, fractured and phone destroyer.

Snow Day was handled by THQ and Question and is a random spinoff. Hopefully Ubisoft is cooking something.

anast27d ago

That's one reason to be hopeful, but Ubi is trending down too.

chicken_in_the_corn26d ago

Loved the RPGs but never played the others. Have to track them down. Still not sure about Snow Day though.
