PSU takes a look at game developers that brought us great games this console generation, but didn't get the attention they deserved.
"Dark Souls: Archthrones is like playing a brand new FromSoftware game, and that speaks volumes about just how much good modding can do," says Hanzala from eXputer.
Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way. Why?
i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)
I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
Danish from eXputer: "With FromSoftware getting new directors, it might be time for the studio to take a break from its iconic Soulslike games."
Honestly I want more lol. Plenty of different settings, time periods, fantasies, and myths they can still use.
Armored Core and Elden Ring are both different than the Souls formula.
Souls formula: You Will Die. Gothic. Not open world. Punishing difficulty. The feeling that doing is completely on the player.
From software can make as many souls games they want. It's the rest of the industry that needs to stop copying them.
This is a very good article that I completely agree with. FromSoftware deserve a lot more recognition, but at the same time I wouldn't want them to develop a swell head due to that recognition. The Souls series is an absolute masterpiece and one of the greatest series of the entire generation. FromSoftware deserve all the success they can get.
Otogi, Otogi 2. That is all I have to say.
This was a fun read. I certainly am not trying to tell you how to do your articles, but I would love to see a more in depth version of this same thing. From Software has even more great titles that were not mentioned. However thank you for the article it was a great read and much more fun to read then all of the negativity going on here lately.
It makes me happy that Dark Souls was a huge success. I felt that most recent games are lacking unique gameplay, but From Software really brought back old school gaming difficulty. It is probably my favorite game of this generation.
