Momma where's my gun gun !

The parents of the victims took 25 games companies to court claiming that their children’s killers had been inspired by violent games; if they had never played those games, the shooting wouldn’t have happened. If this were the case would the killers parents not be to blame, because it was under their care that they were allowed to participate in these games and somewhere along the line they would have been aware of it, or even condoned it.

I have killed someone before. can look me up if i revealed myself ...#nolol moment here

but no not over video games.. and i grew up with mortal kombat , goldeneye , doom , quake, GTA ...

heyy anybody remember Soldiers of fortune 2 ... i just thought about that gruesome game... dont know how i forgot it.

XCLANN3951d ago

The same here but increasingly people are looking for scape goats and reasons why, so to stop all of these law suits and other bad press the companies should police their servers for obvious young players.

lnvisibleMan3951d ago

Well said
They have age ratings for a reason. The parents have no right to blame anyone but themselves.

Rooted_Dust3951d ago

No... policing their children is the sole responsibility of parents.

Also lawsuits aimed at Developers over content have no chance, but lawsuits over denial of access to a purchased product are another story.

Scenarist3951d ago

the thing is , even if it was *gasp* over video games .. .there is no way to prove it as the reason.

I mean how do you attach it to playing video games?

also ..I guess from my disagrees nobody remembers SoF2? was a great game.

titletownrelo3951d ago

Even if the violence from the video games inspired the killings...

-who BOUGHT the games?

-who, as the parent or guardian, did NOT enforce the age restrictions?

-furthermore, as the parent, it is your job to make sure your children know that the fantasy and violence found in media entertainment is NOT reality. That being said, who did NOT do this?

Scenarist3950d ago

While I agree , totally.

What Im asking is, how can you attribute a murder to playing video games other than the person admitting that themselves? just because someone played a violent video games does not mean that its the variable in the reason somebody killed somebody else

Kurt Russell3951d ago (Edited 3951d ago )

Games are the reason for child violence. Marilyn Manson is the devil, Led Zepplin are his apostles.

It doesn't matter what the current fad is, it'll always get blamed by those who don't like or understand it. It then gets promoted by the TV and news media as a real possibility because they themselves are personally losing revenue to said different trends and fads. Games are their competition, and it makes them sweat.

In summary:

It's all bollocks.

lnvisibleMan3951d ago

The media blamed rock n roll in the 60s, blamed movies in the 80s, now they are blaming video games. I wonder what fad is going to catch on next.

Kurt Russell3951d ago (Edited 3951d ago )

Essentially they blame other mediums than themselves... Which I guess makes business sense, even if it is dickish :)

marchinggamer3951d ago

The NRA is trying to point the finger at someone else now and the video game industry is the perfect choice

dennett3163951d ago

The NRA are ridiculous at this point. They call games "murder simulators", yet they go out of their way to promote lethal weaponry, show people how to use it and keep it operating at maximum efficiency. Their lack of self awareness is amazing.
I've played games for 25 years now, countless FPS games and beat em ups, and yet I'd have no idea how to properly load and use a gun, or even how to properly throw a punch without hurting myself.
Games are not simulators, they don't teach you how to steal cars or all the other nonsense that they've gotten the blame for over the years...it's time the media called out some of these absolutely ridiculous arguments.

XCLANN3951d ago

So then it would surely make sense for the companies to protect themselves and be seen to do more in stopping access on their side.

NihonjinChick3951d ago (Edited 3951d ago )

I played Mario as a kid but you won't see me killing turtles and smashing my head into bricks.

People need to stopped blaming video games for their problems.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5062d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905062d ago (Edited 5062d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5062d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5062d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495062d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5062d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5062d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
