They both are good, but I'm hearing all around the web that DualShock 4 wins. Whatever, as long as they both have their particular and unique advantages that benefit their respective platforms, then I'm good.

When was the last time you saw a team of psplayers vs xboxplayers. Maybe in a game of bf3-4. NEVER. Until that happens, nobody knows who's better with what.

I use the ps3 controller for my pc as well.

DS3 is far better than XB360 pad (except triggers and 'weight'). I use both (360 on PC) there is nothing wrong with stick placement on DS3 for me but the buttons and triggers (with extenders) are great, d-pad is great and size is fine.

DS4 looks to be 100% better than DS3 (stick grip, handles etc), the shape on XB1 pad looks wrong and the buttons look overly hard/raised AGAIN.

Ah, crap for crap. I can't believe MS is still going with the AA battery setup. No doubt the controller will ship with no damn battery pack and that'll be extra again.

With my 360, I set it aside and hadn't played the system for a few months and when I did finally pick up Alan Wake and start gaming again...not a single one of my 4 controllers would hold a charge anymore. Not one! They all worked perfectly before I shelved them for awhile but afterwards not a single one would hold a charge. Anyone else experience this? All from sitting idle for too long. Ridiculous.

And now it looks like they're at it again. My original, six axis controllers for my PS3 are still charged up even after having not been used in probably a couple of years. I know because my 3 year old keeps grabbing them off the shelf and turning the PS3 on.

I'll never understand the hate for the symmetrical dualsticks. My hands are symmetrical, my controller is symmetrical.

There's a lot of overhyping of the minor differences of the xbox controller, though. The more "ergodynamic" design (funny, since my hands rest the exact same way on both controllers), the supposed MASSIVE size differences (funny again, I have the two controllers right here and the only considerable size difference is in the handle lengths, and that doesn't affect comfort). The only major difference is the triggers and the DS4 is correcting that problem. Just one of those things that fanboys have trained themselves to hype in the absence of a lot of exclusives, I guess.

Ultimately, I switch and back and forth between the two controllers (Xbox for xbox and third person PC games, PS for PS) and I've never, ever, ever had issues with it.

you have never understood why people talk about the layout of the 360 thumbsticks compared to the ds3 sticks...

the truth is you will never understand because it's like trying to understand why some people are left handed and some people are not.

I know the ps3 is a better system then the 360 but I always used the 360 as my primary gaming platform because quite simply using that controller just felt natural to me, especially the position of the thumbsticks.

yes I played games on my ps3 as well and if I played long enough I could deal with the ps3 pad but no matter how long I used it (i had my ps3 right from 2006 but sold it last year) the stick layout of the ds3 never felt as good or natural to me as the 360's pad.

I cannot wait for the ps4 and I am not buying the xbone because of the shit MS has tried to pull off, but If I had a choice I would still use the xbox pad.

my brother works for one of sony's studios so he has actually used the ps4 controller. I always like the 360 controller more but even he has told the new ps4 pad feels a lot better now then the old one. I am looking forward to trying it out but I do wish sony had an option of another control pad with the left thumbstick int he position the dpad is in currently. thats just me.

Got nothing against it when it comes to shooters, though. Mainly because I've only played one shooter on the 360 one time. Wasn't too bad.

I don't understand it either, and I have and use both controllers quite frequently.

I personally love both controllers, and they both feel very natural to me. Lucky me I guess, I seem to be one of the few people that really love both. And I primarily play shooters, which the 360 pad is supposed to be the best at and the dualshock 3 is supposed to be inferior at.

Both symmetrical and asymmetrical sticks feel the same level of comfortable to me (and I'm not just saying that to try and be the guy who tries to make everyone get along and appreciate both systems/controllers). Though I will not defend the god awful triggers on the dualshock 3, those are just f'ng terrible, but L1 and R1 are good enough to make up for that.

But if I had to choose between the two, I'd probably choose dualshock 3, as it's lighter and smaller, therefore easier to hold and doesn't feel like it will break if it falls off my desk or if I throw it at a couch but misses and hits the carpet. The 360 pad makes me feel like I need to take extra care of it. The dualshock 3 doesn't, so I'd choose the dualshock 3, even though FUNCTIONALLY, they are on the same level of comfort to me.

My thumbs clank all the time, and who plays using the analog sticks with the tips of their thumbs? Not everyone. Some who have large fingers rest their thumbs on top and have great control.

According to a lot of people the XBOX ONE controller overall is a step back from the 360 controller, though they say the triggers have improved, the analog sticks, especially the bumper buttons are worse.

Xbox One console itself is in many ways inferior to PS4, but Xbone's controller is miles better than Sony's stubborn Dual Shock 4. I hate the stick placement on Sony's controllers. So much so that after Microsoft announced they're retracting their online restrictions, I went and cancelled my PS4 preorder and used the 25 bucks towards an Xbone.

This is funny to me.. I have very large hands and the DS3 is not only comfortable to me but I have never had issues with the stick layout.. In fact the stiffness and the layout of the 360 sticks causes hand cramps for me... My only complaint about the DS3 is the dead zone in the sticks.. But even still it's negligible..

I can't believe that either controller will be bad, people who have gamed on a PS3 for the better part of the decade will prefer the DualShock while 360 users will opt for the XB1's shape, size, and layout. Why does not have to "win"? That is the typical Sony fanboy mess that just makes everyone on here sound like a jackass. I have never owned Sony and it has nothing to do with the actual consoles. I think Sony has a great console from 1-4. But since playing on the PS1 my hands cramp playing with the controller. I have large hands and Sony is designed it seems to exclude anyone with large hands. I can't buy it because I can't see spending money on it for something I can't play for more than a hlf hour because it literally hurts. As crazy as it sounds that is the sole reason I have never bought any playstation.

I have very large hands and have never had any issues using the DualShock setup.. In fact I prefer it.. the curvature of the 360 pad conforms to my hands well but because my entire hand makes contact I tend to have sweaty palms after only a few minutes..

xboner controllers doesnt look that much different its basically almost the same layout with no changes.same button and everything..PS4 do have changes the led light in the back and a touching pad..when people hold the new dualshock 4 it will be a whole new different controller to them..so far a lot of reviewers love the new dualshock 4 and prefer that controllers..

People should learn to let the controller rest in their hands and not have their hands curl around the controller. I have big hands. If I curled my fingers around it like some do I would have my fingers around the triggers. I have never had my thumbs touch each other on a dualshock because I just have a light grip to it and it makes my aiming and all smoother since I am not gripping it so much to use my middle thumb digits. I've never had balded analog sticks and I have played almost every day for years with plenty of hours. Choking the controller doesn't give more control.

Thank you for saying this! I'm in the same boat, large hands but I let the controller sit in my hands and I have Hitchhikers thumbs so the tips of my thumbs curl up and the DS3 sticks just work well for me..

Personally i think it boils down to what people are used to, if youve had a ps3 for most of this gen then you will be more comfortable with the ps4 layout and same goes for the 360 to xbox one. Both look okay and have a couple of new tweaks to play with. AA battery layout in the xbox one is a bit rubbish but that wont be enough to sway people who are already planning on getting the one.

So each to their own, i just hope everyone enjoys next gen as much as i plan to!

the xbox 360 controller was near perfect except for the dpad which looks better overall im glad they kept everything the same and refined it the controller was good as it is.

also the DS4 looks good they fixed the triggers and made the overall controller bigger which were two of the major gripes against the ds3

overall they both look really good, the controller preference is really subjective so cant really say one is better than the other

I agree with what you say they both look good. the DS4 looks like it could be a lot better than the DS3 & 2 as they were to small for my hands and I got cramp when playing the console for an hour or so where the 360 controller was perfect for me but the dpad did need improving which it looks like they have done that.

Would of been better off grabbing the MLG cntroller for the ps3. Bit pricey but you can customise where the sticks are. Very good controller. Downside is price and not wireless

As long as the the design of a controller is anything other than asymmetric, it is an uncomfortable design for me. The Xbox controller is the only choice I will ever make. It has always seemed like the PS controllers were designed for small, nimble hands, which is a hand structure that I do not possess.

with the xbox controller it is not just about the placement of the analog sticks but it also has better resistance when moving the sticks. the ps3 controller's analog sticks are to easy to move. it causes a lot of over aiming when you are use to the 360 controller

If this truly was the case then I wouldn't fare better with shooters on my ps3 then I do with the 360.. I have BLOPSII on both consoles and my KDR is much better on the PS3 and I have 3 times as much play time on the ps3.. Both controllers work great for shooters there's no added advantage or immediate improvement with one over the other.. ITS ALL PREFERENCE

The idea that offset sticks or symmetrical sticks have an advantage over the other is ridiculous.

Its the same as driving a car. You prefer what you're accustomed to, but one does not have an advantage.

Why would your left hand prefer the analog higher up but your right hand be fine with placement? It makes no sense. Logically one would think the ds makes more sense, as their hands are symmetrical and they hold it as such. Neither is true, however. It is only preference or acclimation.

One can become accustomed to either without any issues.

Here's the problem with symmetrical dual sticks: they are not ergonomically friendly. I hate the xbox one with a passion but will admit a lot of research has gone into making both the 360/one controllers and the reason for a raised left analog is because in FPS games(etc) most of ur movements are ups and downs (walking forward and backing up, while strafing is secondary. The higher placement of the left stick allows for those primary movements much more comfortable because it is a natural extension motion of the thumb, where as on the ps4 u have to move ur thumb in a left or right motion in respect to the hand. The right analog on the xbox is left the conventional way because thumb extension motion is already in proper placement for the two directions primarily at play here. That would be turn left/right, where looking up and down are secondary. Now you know why the xbox controller not only feels better for fps but is much more ergonomic and well thought out.

no,...you just fail at understanding what i said. iif you would have read my comment as to why the right analog is better in its normal position then you would understand. the right analog should be in its convnetional position because left and right turning are the primary uses for it, with looking up and down being secondary. What you describe MIGHT give benefits to access, but they'd be marginal, at best. At the same time, they'd hinder motion in the less used directions, as you call them, making the attempt to actually MOVE IN those directions more difficult.

Ergonomically speaking, it makes more sense to hinder the more natural movements for the sake of making the less natural movements easier to do. It creates a balance that would allow you to move evenly in all directions from both sticks.

Our brains are pretty symmetrical. This means they respond better, on the whole, to symmetrical systems. It's why asymmetrical faces and bodies aren't generally as attractive as symmetrical ones. All of our senses operate based on a sense of symmetry, from balance to hearing. Even the taste zones on our tongue are symmetrically placed.

The most ergonomic systems, from chairs to cars to controllers, take advantage of our natural need for symmetry.

Nor did I say it was the "standard" for all things. Your examples, by the way, are worse, as we, as a society, encourage the use of one, dominant side. Hell, I'm left-handed, but bat and throw right. As a child, my teachers tried to force me into being right-handed. Being ambidextrous is most beneficial, as the loss of an arm or use of one limb for whatever reason does not become nearly as debilitating.

Simply put, people who predominantly use their right hands liked being a majority- see any other discrimination in the history of mankind.... only this one not so harsh- so they encouraged their style and discouraged or shunned any others. Militaries- those primarily relying on sword and shield- taught things from this majority perspective; losing the right hand was the same as death for a soldier, but being able to use the left hand just as effectively would have been a devastating force. The staircases in castles wound clockwise so the defenders could more freely use their sword arms than the attackers, who'd be hampered by the inside wall; attackers able to effectively use a sword in the left hand would not have had this problem.

The things you speak of are functions of our society(or societites), built that way for the purposes of congruence, of uniformity. Not necessarily how our brains work; a LOT of what we do as a species ignores, contradicts, takes advantage of, or otherwise clashes with how our minds work.

That mouse of yours, by the way, is easily remapped for a left-handed person; the standard mouse is pretty symmetrical.

Personally, I've always preferred the feel of the xbox controller. The 360 pad is probably my favorite pad to date. With the One's controller seemingly just an improved version of 360's, I definitely plan on grabbing one for use on the PC.

The XBox VS PS argument for shooters and racing games, I believe, is a matter of taste. While I'm a PS fan, I can see why people'd like the XBox controller for those genres, but I still play those genres perfectly fine on my DS3, and I like the fact that it's a good all-around controller for any genre.

Great thing about Dual shock imo is that its great for every genre that's why it stayed the same for some many years.Improving the width and space of the analogs fixing the trigger buttons will make a huge difference Sony will be improving on greatness :D

You can actually replace the battery in the PS3 (and probably PS4) controller. I hate having to switch batteries, and I don't keep up with all my rechargeable ones. It's too much hassle. Store-bought rechargeable batteries all seem to lose there charge capacity relatively quickly, too. Hopefully the One will support a Play and Charge kit.

Meanwhile, my PS controllers from 2007 still hold their charges like new. Personally, I wish the AA battery option was the accessory, but MS knows that no one would buy it.

yeah i still have 2 controllers from 07 with plenty of battery life. i dont use one of them because the d-pad buttons were sticking and the left analog stick started to suck. but batteries... still fine.

It's funny how some fans seem treat the trigger buttons as if there were the only ones that mattered. I absolutely despise it when games force me to use the triggers to aim, shoot or whatever. In a fare amount of games you'll have two or three controller setup options.

How many stuck with classic option in GTA 4... I know I did.

This time, even with the next-gen consoles and corresponding control pads still to see the light of day at retail/web shops, the verdict is most definitely a PS4/DS4 win over XBox ONE's.

XBox ONE - is a proper evolution from XBox360 and honestly so, since 360's a very cohesive design.

PS4/DS4 - revolutionary I think explains it all, compared to tried and tested and quite ancient ( minor changes since PS1 days ) PS3 control pad.

360 Controller suffered from:
- Cheap materials; how many analog sticks have you worn out?
- Stiff analog sticks
- Huge ass unresponsive deadzones for the analog sticks
- The worst "d-pad" in console history
- Bumper buttons that are near useless; you need to strain your fingers to get to them
- Squeaky triggers
- Start button far too close to the X button (frustrating for people with big hands)
- Asymmetrical analog sticks; which is completely retarded. Try this test: Hold the controller, and mimic the same actions on both analog sticks; see how inconsistent it is? Your fingers need to fight in different directions. It makes no sense at all.
- BATTERIES? SERIOUSLY? Holy... pile of shit

The ONLY positive is how it rests in the palms; the rest is complete garbage.

Have you seen how much effort they have put into controller? The amount of stress test they performed to make sure the controller can handle all type of drops. Rumble on the triggers for a more tactile feeling and Wi-Fi direct as the means of connecting the controller to your console.

I use an xbox 360 controller for my games on PC and it feels comfortable in my hands and I have no problems with its asymmetrical sticks. I may not like Microsoft's policies, but at least I give credit to them where it's due.

Sonys DS4 has way more features than the controller for the xbox one.. I think the clickable touchpad, led light bar, six axis, gyroscope, & speaker are much more convenient & adds more to games than rumbling in the triggers.. Not to mention that the Dpad is always one of sonys strong points thats unrivaled in control.. Since they fixed the analog sticks (SAINTS BE PRAISED!!!!) & triggers, i think its no contest.. The Dual Shock 4 is undoubtably the best console controller..

I've read that the ds4 sticks are a lot tighter which is good. My biggest gripe with the ds3 and ds2 was the sticks were to loose.

It is really just a matter of personal preference, I personally have no problem with either of the current controllers. And I think both next gen controllers will be pretty good. But what I don't like is how if you say you like one over the other you are a stupid fanboy.
