Agreed. One of my best friends got a PS2 at launch and he'd come up to where I worked graveyard shifts, and we'd play PS2 all night. It was fun at launch, but when GTA3 came out, we had the most laughs. A game designed for solo play, but we made it the most fun coop game. See who could kill the most hookers... see who could do the most damage... etc.

I still had 2 birthdays ahead of me before moving countries.
I had 3 birthdays before I finished primary school.
I had 8 birthdays before getting into college.
11 before getting into university.
13 birthdays before starting work for Cancer Research UK.

Its amazing that if I had bought a PS2 at launch I could have played on it from the momment I started learning long division in primary school all the way to helping cure cancer for the second biggest cancer research organisation in the world!

13 years ago it was the summer before 8th grade. I remember my dad was stationed in South Korea and he came back a couple of weeks before the school year started. Bam! There it was a PS2 i was so stoked i was the only kid in the neighborhood with one being that it wasn't out in the states yet. I remember 5 of my friends and myself spent the rest of the summer in my room, it was amazing. and The best part was it had a mod chip so i could play the both the Japanese titles my dad brought back and a few months later the american titles. I played an arse load of games, but I spent many many hours on GT3 and Ace Combat 4. Man those were the days!

13 years ago I was 24 and selling consoles in my shop. GameCube didn't take off and I remember getting the ps2 in stock and using one to demo GT on the shop floor. Once the customers saw that running we couldn't keep them in stock fast enough. As a small shop we only used to get 6-8 at a time. They didn't stay on the stockroom shelf very long.

And important to remember it was many people's first DVD player.

A few years later I got burgled and they took my ps2 games but oddly enough not the console ( it was an original fat).

Still have that machine in the loft with the rest of my collection. Great machine, great memories. I bet playing gt on it now would still be awesome.

Sony at their very very best, no doubt about that.

R.I.P PS2. Your place in the pantheon of greatness is eternal.

I still have memories of the good old days when we had Madden tournaments, it was insane at parties, lol my ps2 single handedly paid for itself ten times over...ahhh the memories. I remember playing PS2 for the first time at a friends house.

I had Gamecube so it was fun to play games I couldn't otherwise play.

Played SSX Tricky, Grand Turismo 3, and soon after GTA 3 and those games sold me on the PS2.

Never owned one because I bought an xbox soon after GC, but still I appreciate and admire and respect Sony for what they did with the PS2.

That thing is legendary world wide.

PS2 is still dominate in some areas of the world. It's cheap, and more available than the higher priced PS3/360. My regular GameStop which opened early last year even has a small section for new PS2 games, although I don't think they are terribly new ones. Not everyone jumps into a new generation, and just want to play a game here or there, or have budget constraints.

one of my friends borrowed my PS2 and he still plays FIFA on it.

PS2 is the first console that made me realise what gaming can be. until then for me it was just Super Mario, Contra, Top gun, Pacman, Donkey Kong, Digger etc... games like that. i mean they were great games but didn't have much story and all that.

i picked up God of War, Prince of Persia and Need for Speed: Most Wanted along with my PS2. i think that just was one of my best decisions ever... actually there was this little kid (who had also come to buy a game) at the shop counter who told me to pick up 'God of War'. lol.

i picked up PoP and NFS because i had already tried those games on computer. in God of War i found the fixed camera little restricting but slowly the story just pulled me in. after that i did buy bucket loads of games, not all of them were amazing because i never used to follow game sites back then. however i did have the sense to buy Okami, which later IGN gave it a GOTY whereas other sites decorated Gears of Wars.

anyways, i think early PS2 days are what made me a sony fan. it also moulded me into an adult gamer. i'm supposing that that's how it works for others when comes to 360 and why they love Xbox.

I think it is an intentional move from EA to have the last games released for sony's consoles , FIFA 2005 was the last official PS1 game and FIFA 14 is going to be the last official PS2 game and the interesting part is that financially there is no reason either for them or for Konami to not continue releasing FIFA and PES as the only work done from the last 4-5 years in both games in PS2 are roster and interface change so even if the game sells from zero to none it will still be a profit and add the fact that PS2 is still popular in a lot of reigns around the world

The first games I played on PS2 where Silent Hill 3 and Wild Arms 3, bought the system and those two games for my birthday back when my girlfriend and I had been together for a couple of months. Such good memories... it broke 6 years later right after I played Kingdom Hearts 2, thus leading me to believe my PS2 was actually a heartless and was destroyed by Sora while the credits rolled. Good times.

God of war 1,2; San Andreas; Final Fantasy 12; NFS Most Wanted; Shadow of the Colossus; and all the other games.

Ahhh PS2....The games you had focused on gameplay and not graphics. You were the beginning of the online console revolution with the classic series SOCOM. No game has yet to come close to your style of gameplay/ match making/ online that focused on teamwork and required a mic to win, the inability to run around unless you felt like waiting 5 minutes for the next round to start/ your actual clan system...that wasn't just 3 letters/ no stupid leveling system....JUST.STRAIGHT. SKILL AND TACTICS.

11+ years after you started this type of gameplay you were shunned by SONY. Your unique gameplay was cast aside for noob friendly 1st person shooters that required no skill.

Perhaps there will be a day when your gameplay is appreciated once more. The greatest online game ever shared the greatest console to date.

Quite sad really, I had it from launch and loved it to bits. One memory that I laugh about with a buddy was when we first saw the demo of Metal Gear Solid 2 running in the shop window.

It was where snake was on a boat in the rain, we couldn't believe what we were seeing, we thought it looked so realistic :D

So many memories, and its why to this day I love Sony, they support their systems and knock out game after game for their consumers. Adios PS2, you will never be forgotten!

I still have my ps2... Bought it in June 2001 when i was 18, solely for Gran Turismo 3, which I still think is the best game of the series! :) also picked up Tekken Tag and Crazy Taxi. Good memories, was the first console I bought myself with my own money :D

Great times indeed. I especially remember one game on the PS2, where you could actually jump into a Spaceship on the planet and fly straight to space without any loading in between, that shiit was awesome.. but i don´t remember the name of the game.

Think it was a Jump and Run game, but might be wrong. It had not onyl that, but also some nice gfx-tricks like 10000 bugs sprites attacking you.. oh man, hope anyone of you knows what im talking about.
