Nintendo: Nintendo Land hasn't done as well as Wii Sports

Nintendo's President Satoru Iwata admits that Nintendo Land hasn't had the desired effect Nintendo hoped for, saying that it hasn't communicated what is good about the Wii U Game Pad as well as Wii Sports communicated what was good about motion controls.

Shocker of the century.

What's worse is that Nintendo obviously knows Nintendo Land isn't recapturing the Wii Sports crowd, and yet they insist on devoting their time on vanity projects like Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD.

PopRocks3593957d ago

Isn't that a little overly cynical, at least in regards to Wind Waker HD? I thought it was basically confirmed that WWHD was a hold-over game that was using the newer 3D Zelda's assets.

As for 3D World, I honestly hope it's a hold-over game as well. I want the next really big, innovative 3D Mario game. Not another offline multiplayer game that borrows a concept from an older (albeit awesome) portable game.

chadboban3957d ago

Can any game even come close to that in terms of sales and consoles sold because of it. I think not.

Utalkin2me3957d ago

Well Wii sports was packaged into the console. So technically it is not game sales. Just think if the PS2 had a game packaged in? It would be the "Most Sold" of all time.

andrewer3957d ago

that would be a massacre lol

stragomccloud3956d ago

It wasn't packaged with every console in every region though.

Utalkin2me3956d ago

lol @ the guy above me....

SuperBazza3957d ago

Apparently, there's a need to exteriorize the feeling. Good for them they got it out of their system, maybe they'll put out a good game now.

Subzero2003957d ago

that's cause it is no wii sports, and Nintendo messed up trying to go that route again.

If they're not important enough to be held on their own official storefront then they're not important enough to give your money to Nintendo.

Buy these, physically, used or simply emulate them.

This article comes off as nothing more than advertising games that Nintendo, themselves, don't care to offer you... buy now!

ocelot07784d ago

Wait hang on where all the outrage? I swear when Sony tried to do this with PS3 last year. There was outrage from all corners of the gaming universe.

Why does no one care Nintendo is doing it?

MadLad784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

There has been.
A lot of it.

Simply type in "3DS" in Google and tell me what you see.

ocelot07784d ago

Oh I have a fair few websites reporting on it. But where is the outcry on here? I remember their was 2-3 approved top voted articles when Sony announced they where closing the PS3 store. All slating them and not caring about customers.

I should of worded it better. Where is all the outrage on n4g?

MadLad784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

N4G is a fanboy site, mainly frequented by only Sony.
Microsoft is their direct competition, so you'll typically only see articles that are made to rile up those fanbases.

Nintendo does it's own thing, so they're rarely brought up, aside from their fans. The most you get is the same typical two or three posters claiming Nintendo is only for infants.

If you come to N4G for educated discourse and reasonable discussion, this isn't the place. Sad as it is.

pietro1212784d ago

It's lame that it is shutting down. Now I feel rushed buying all the rpgs I missed out on the system.

XxINFERNUSxX784d ago

You guys know that even archive.org has 3DS roms, and all other console roms. I'm downloading 846GB of 3DS roms and will add the best games to my soon to be soft modded New 3DS 😁. Might as well throw in DS and other emulators in there to. Guys this would be the best way to play and enjoy the 3DS. Just need to buy a bigger micro SD card and format it to FAT32, which you can if it's even 256GB or larger there are ways.

XxINFERNUSxX784d ago

This should help if you want to soft mod it excellent guide and up to the latest and probably last 3DS firmware update: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Switch Sports Will Never Live Up To Wii Sports

The Switch just isn't equipped for a killer sports title like the Wii was

A lot of the points made here are true, yet let's give it a chance, because like the author said, the Wii was a motion control console and everyone did view it as such while the switch is not, so the way people view the game determines how much they invested in it, so again let's give it a chance and see

Ratty796d ago

Wii sports was truly atrocious and you're saying Switch Sports will be even worse? It does not bode well for Switch Sports indeed.

Fntastic796d ago

Wii Sports was ok for screwing around, but the games lacked depth. Also I'm not sure why it seems like they decided to stick with the automatic player movement so all you need to do is swing to hit something. Very noob friendly but not as much fun IMO.

CrimsonWing69796d ago (Edited 796d ago )

Wii Sports was THE game for casuals. I don’t feel many casuals own the Switch. I can’t see this doing the numbers Wii Sports did.

Einhander1971796d ago

Course it won't, the Wii was a phenomenon. Something new with the motion tech. A curiosity to almost everyone. Obviously Switch sports won't create the same impact.

Because we all miss accidentally throwing our Wiimotes at the TV, so let's throw some Joy-Cons.

Neonridr827d ago

VR is the same way, wrist straps for a reason.

Neonridr827d ago

I loved the golf from Wii Sports Resort.

Cuzizkool827d ago

I was always confused by Nintendo’s decision to kill the franchise. “Super” stayed with Mario titles even after the Super Nintendo. They can still use the Wii name. Hell it’s been so long that releasing a new one, or even an HD remaster, will tap into that nostalgia market.

DazaMc827d ago

Super Mario launched on the NES not the Super NES.

septemberindecember826d ago

Super was never because of the Super Nintendo. Super Mario Bros launched on the NES. The Super is because it's an indirect sequel to Mario Bros.

They can just call it Nintendo Sports or something, but using the Wii name would be a bit confusing.

Bigman4k827d ago

Yeah i agree but i don't think Nintendo will be bringing wii sports to the Nintendo Switch samething goes for diddykong racing
