EA: No next-gen FIFA 14 on PC because users have low-spec machines

It sounds like PC gamers may face a bit of a wait for true next-gen FIFA to be released on PC.

liorishot3955d ago

Wtf the new consoles have the specs of a low to mid end pc so wtf

MariaHelFutura3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

You can't compare console specs and pc specs. It doesn't work like that. Consoles are made for basically just gaming, pcs are made for doing many things at the same time.

TurboGamer3955d ago

You clearly haven't seen the Xbone reveal and in this upcoming GEN you CAN compare console specs and pc specs since they contain the same architecture. You wont see the low level optimizations until 2-3 years after the consoles have launched. Until then consoles games will basicly be PC games with lower graphics settings.

liorishot3955d ago

Have you heard of a gaming pc? the new consoles are basiclly PCs with the new x86 chip. most gaming pcs are more powerful than the ps4 any day long

Irishguy953955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

That's only partially true. Xbox had architecture like a PC. An 8800GTX still ****ing annihilates the 360. Optimization did **** all basically. Thus proving that depending on how easy a console is to develop for...optimization doesn't do much. Ps4 and Xbone are very easy to dev for and are straightforward PC hardware. Besides the Ps4's GDDR5 which doesn't really matter/

Optimization is basically extremely overrated. Especially for next gen. You can always compare the hardware. Hardware is hardware. Anything that gets optimized for the Next gen hardware will automatically be optimized for PC. Why? Because the hardware is so similar. That's why it'll be very easy to port games from one system to another next gen.

Don't bother with EA either. You know how they are. Any gaming PC from the last 4 years should be fine with Fifa, could lower the settings if not/

Wow, you just showed how ignorant you are of hardware too Maria...well..i'm not surprised. You know GPU's do most of the work when it comes to gaming in PC's right? You know next gen consoles are the same way right? There's a reason the CPU's in the next gen consoles are so weak. Standard PC's(not even gaming ones) of today have generally much better Cpu's than them, you know...for doing the rest of a Pc's features.

JsonHenry3955d ago

You can without a doubt next gen compare PC and Console specs because the consoles are (mostly) just downgraded (both the Sony and MS machines are running watered down 7970m parts from AMD) off the shelf parts.

The real reason is probably pressure from both MS and Sony to not release just a highly popular title on the PC so that fans are forced to buy a new console in order to play.

FATAL1TY3955d ago

PS4 = TRUE NEXT GEN

PC = old gen

-_-

MysticStrummer3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

"most gaming pcs are more powerful than the ps4"

Fine, but how many PCs that have games played on them are "gaming PCs"?

The answer is comparatively few.

That's what PC gamers refuse to acknowledge. Far more PC games are being played on older stock hardware than on upgraded hardware.

Consoles have more standardized hardware, which is better for developers to work on.

fr0sty3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

There are a lot of things about these consoles that are not directly comparable on PC. For instance, in PS4 the CPU has a direct bus to the GPU, and does not have to rely on PCI express to communicate. They are on the same chip, with a bus wired directly between the two. This enables the CPU and GPU to aid each other in ways not possible on PC. PS4's GPU also can have up to 64 sources of compute commands vs. only 2 on PC. Then there's the fact that, due to unified memory, if the CPU and GPU want to work on the same bit of data, they don't have to wait for a copy of that data to be made in their local pool of RAM first.

There is no doubt that one could assemble a PC that was capable of smoking a PS4 in raw power. A top-end i7, 32GB of RAM, and a titan would do the trick nicely. However, you will never get a PC that can perform as good as a PS4 for as cheap as a PS4 sells for. You'd have to spend a good bit more to build a comparable machine, when you take all the advantages above plus the advantage of PS4 being a closed platform specifically for gaming into account.

Then you have to consider this article. Developers on PC cater to the lowest common denominator in hardware power. They have to, as a very small percentage of PCs out there have high end gaming hardware in them. It severely limits their install base if they cater to the high end. So, the vast majority of developers on PC don't, and that's why you see consoles typically leading the charge when it comes to new innovations in graphics, etc. It usually isn't until late in the console generation that the PC games begin to show their true advantages over the console versions. By true advantage, I mean more than just running the same game at a higher resolution or framerate.

MariaHelFutura3955d ago

Planetside 2 is a PC game on max settings port and it's a PS4 launch/launch window game. Things are looking good for next gen.

GamePeace3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

Well, you're probably right. Found this.

"The PS4 sees Sony move to a 64-bit x86 chip architecture, which will be music to the ears of developers, especially those used to working on PC games. The good news doesn’t stop there, though. Developers will be able to take advantage of Microsoft’s latest industry standard DirectX API — DirectX 11.1, but Sony has taken the time to improve upon it, pushing the feature set beyond what is available for PC games development."

Ps4 will prevail!

nix3955d ago

there it is... people from the horse's (the term i would love to use is "ass'") mouth.

not every freaking pc is a gaming machine. even EA is saying that.

"...the lion's share of PCs on the marketplace could not.."

"The majority of the gamer base that was playing the game on PC did not have a PC spec that would work with that."

RAYMEISTER3955d ago

That's stupid. I guess none of the ps4 or xbone games will be released on PC then since pc can't handle them.

cunnilumpkin3954d ago (Edited 3954d ago )

"You can't compare console specs and pc specs. It doesn't work like that. Consoles are made for basically just gaming, pcs are made for doing many things at the same time"

consoles are made for doing many things too, pc's are just better at multitasking

you can directly compare console and pc this gen coming up, since ps4 and xboxone are just basically mid-spec pc's

I hate to break it too you, but it seem not as many people as you thought have high end PCs. Thats not necessarily something to get upset out. EAs clearly being little bitchy about the PC thing, but they always are. Is this really a surprise?

Razputin3955d ago

I'm a die hard PC gamer, with a high end system, and anyone who actually uses a PC should know this.

Yes, PCs are expensive to upkeep. But to me they are way more worth it.

Just looking at Steam hardware specs, most people don't even have a dedicated graphics card. I believe this is why Indie games are so damn popular on PC.

Also a good majority have very old hardware, some from over 5 years ago.

This is the sad reality, if every PC gamer had a high end PC, we'd see more amazing games. But it isn't the reality.

We can just wait for pure cloud gaming where no one has a console anymore, just games streamed to from servers.

Grap3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

lol the funny thing my brother have 4 years old laptop and he can max out FIFA 13 keep in mind it's a laptop.
BTW how do i have 5 bubbles last time i checked it was 1 lol

Dark_Overlord3955d ago

Everyone was given 5 back when E3 started, I believe they're getting rid of the bubble system soon too :)

ATi_Elite3955d ago

Seriously I think it's because more PC Gamers prefer Football Manager than FIFA.

I'm sure there are some FIFA PC Gamers out there that are upset but Football Manager is waaaaay more popular on the PC than Fifa.

Low PC specs excuse is LAME. PS4 and XboxOne ARE Low end PC's which is why ALL BF4 Demos at E3 were run on PC's.

DeadlyFire3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

EA Believes they will lose sales if they upgrade the engine. They have not optimized it yet and don't plan on doing it apparently. If they did they could scale it from low end PCs up to High end just fine.

EA believes the PC version will look just the same as Xb1, and PS4 version anyway so they see no need to upgrade the PC version to look better just yet. They are just trying to save money. Like they are that worried about losing it.

sorane3955d ago

Yeah a bunch of major developers have already come out and bashed this statement including Mark Rein. Not hard to figure out the PC reigns supreme in terms of power.

3-4-53955d ago

Fifa is worldwide and around the world....outside of US, a lot of people have low spec computers because they can't afford to get a new one every 4-5 years.

Fifa isn't just for us in the US, it's more popular elsewhere actually.

Good thing is....a lot of those people have PS2, which I think Fifa is still releasing on.

liorishot3955d ago

You forget most people with gaming pcs who will buy fifa have the same or better specs than the new consoles

solar3954d ago

EA has been making excuses to leave the PC platform for years now. this is just another excuse

Gamer19823954d ago

Its a god damn joke really as I been playing FIFA on PC at 1080p 60FPS on my PC for a couple of years now with no problems. They are just making excuses and abandoning it due to bad sales like they did with NHL.

the hell?

my brother's gonna be pissed. then again, he keeps going on about jumping ship to PES. so maybe this will seal the deal

VaporCell3955d ago

On a side note, PES games kinda screw up bad sometimes though.

Orpheus3955d ago

EA is being like the partner who breaks up and then asks to remain friends lol.

mmj3955d ago

Another laughable excuse, an i3 and low-mid range GPU could run a PS4/Xbone game.

spektical3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

i doubt you can run it elegantly, maybe on low specs sure. you can also run crysis on a pentium 2 and 256MB of RAM. you just lose lots of functionality.

mmj3955d ago (Edited 3955d ago )

PS4/Xbone CPU is pants by PC standards, a dual core 1.6Ghz Bobcat (E350) is about 4 times slower than a 2.8Ghz Pentium dual core, so an 8 core Bobcat is only going to have roughly the same processing power.

Here have a look yourself:

imXify3955d ago

What the heck ? A basic mid range laptop can run Fifa 13 at ultra with at least 130 fps

Not all outdated football games are worthless

Games Asylum: "Outdated football games are a common sight when scouring jumble sales, car boots and charity shops for bargain price video games. Entire shelves filled with decade-old FIFA and PES games spread across a dozen formats. Often they end up in bargain bins, sitting alongside unwanted celebrity fitness DVDs and seemingly random TV show box sets. But here’s the thing. Not all football games gathering dust in the likes of Oxfam are in fact worthless."
