Well, Gamescom is in August maybe they will tell us more.

dedicatedtogamers3957d ago

I don't think Destiny needs to be "unique". I think it simply needs to be good. The quasi-MMO features (like meeting other fire-teams in "public areas" and encountering public events) seems pretty unique to me.

JsonHenry3957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

Nothing new. Well, it IS new on consoles. But nothing new to a majority of gamers that have ever played an MMO on the PC. I agree with the Author- it just needs to be good/fun. They don't need to reinvent the wheel here. Just bring a game to an audience (console players) that has never had it available before.

I love that the newest consoles are so MMO/f2P friendly. It really is going to open up the market and expose a lot of players on consoles to new genres while showing PC gamers like myself how we can enjoy the same experiences on a console.

SoapShoes3957d ago

Halo was nothing new either but it did bring some new things to consoles so it doesn't need to be unique to do well.

Felonycarclub83956d ago

Do you think this next gen consoles will bring PC and Console gamers together, or is it going to be the same old thing.

JsonHenry3956d ago

@Felonycarclub8 - I think every generation of consoles since the PS2 has brought the PC and the consoles closer together and this is certainly no exception. Just look at how many free to play games, MMO/OnlineRPG, and streamed content is being pushed onto the consoles.

Then look at the hardware that is inside of the consoles. A lot of it is just modified off the shelf PC parts. Which is a good thing for all gamers because games will be more optimized for your platform of choice regardless of whether you choose MS, Sony, Nintendo, or the PC of your choice.

exactly im luv that console are getting mmos now. its funny cause most people was bashing mmos games on this site for the longest. i guess if strategy games make its way to console they gonna act like its something new too.

Rhaigun3956d ago

I think it looks great already. What I hope for most, is that it runs great. In other words, I don't want to see a lot of lag when multiple fire teams are on the same screen.

webeblazing3956d ago

LOL i see its a bad thing you point out how much people flip flop on this site

Looks awesome to me
I'm sold

Artificial_Ignorance3957d ago

I dunno, those private and public spaces within the game is pretty unique.

GamePeace3957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

The coop-play with my brother is the main reason for buying Destiny, if you read about their influences on the gamedesign, you will be dissapointet. Let's cross the fingers.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter323d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell322d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig323d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast323d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername323d ago (Edited 323d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g323d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka323d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai474d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface473d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard470d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
