Warner Montreal on Arkham Origins: "[We] hope when you play the game, you’ll love it" - AusGamers

AusGamers has interviewed Warner Bros. Montreal's Eric Holmes, creative director on Batman: Arkham Origins, who talks candidly about their choice of voice-actors, as well as much more.

"Our characters are younger. They’re less formed than the other versions of the characters you’ve seen in Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Getting that youthful energy, and unformed nature of those characters, led us to recasting those characters. So really, we wanted to get the best possible characters we could, and we went through an exhaustive casting campaign --not just to get the best actors we could, but to get people who sound like Kevin, to get people that can give a performance like Mark, but also have that edge of youthfulness.

So you won’t find anyone more respectful of their work than this team; than those actors too. I know that they love their performance, but they’re bringing something of their own to it as well. So I think ultimately... I understand people are passionate about Kevin, I am too, but I think that you’re going to see these people bring something new to it, which fits our story... but I hope when you play the game, that you’ll love it."

It looks awesome, hey wait so did aliens lol. If rock steady gave this guys their blessing I will trust

NihonjinChick3957d ago

I hope they took some lessons from RockSteady and studied the first two games. They don't need to change anything, they just need to build up on the foundation Rocksteady has laid down.

Mikelarry3957d ago

I saw the e3 demo and it seemed to play like the previous two only time will tell not long now anyway

Asylum was a good game, Arkham was dreadful and this looks like another load of shite aswell. unless your 12 years of age that is. and b man looks like hes on steroids.

Amplitude3957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

I used to hate the idea of the bubble system since it prevented long conversations.

But now that it's reset, i miss it to death.

MrAnderson3957d ago

Whilst I prefered Asylum to City, City was still great, if you don't think so you've very poor taste.

sync903957d ago (Edited 3957d ago )

So, do you think everyone that doesn't enjoy the same things as you has poor taste? i think city was massively overated. its called having an opinion.

MrAnderson3956d ago

No, but I do think people who think good games are "another load of shite" have bad taste.

Yes, your taste is poor, just like people who think Final Fantasy 13 was a good game have poor taste, not to mention you're acting like an immature brat in every post you make, let me guess you were at 1 bubble before they got reset? LOL, grow up SON.

When I saw City compared to Asylum I saw the jump, I saw the difference and I knew I was going to enjoy it. However this looks like a reskinned Arkham City game, a quick cash in to get the most out of this gen before it ends and while Rocksteady are developing their game.

Jagsrock3957d ago

This game seems like more of a stop gap between Arkham city and the true sucessor being developed by rocksteady. From what ive seen it just looks like an extension of arkham city with minor upgrades which isn't necessarily bad but I'm not sure if it will be worth a $60 price tag especially with games like GTA 5, Watchdogs, and Destiny coming out around the same time.

The best Batman Arkham game still isn’t on PS5, and that’s a problem

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is almost here, but I can't revisit the best Arkhamverse game on PS5 without sacrificing quality.

Not a fan of Orgins. Blame it on the absence of Conroy & Hamill. Blame it on the lack of atmosphere compared to Asylm. Hell blame it the devs thst dicked over Wii U owners like me that purchased the game only for support be dropped as a thank you to me. It's better than Knight but that's not saying much. I don't care for that entry either.

Rebel_Scum92d ago

tbh buying a game like that for WiiU should’ve been an obvious non-purchase when it existed on better hardware.

Cacabunga91d ago

Origins is amazing..
my favorite Batman is Batman and Robin on mega drive.. an HD REMASTER of that would still look glorious

ZeekQuattro91d ago

I got it launch. Kinda hard to go back. I'm supposed to know they were going to drop support months after the fact. 🤣

Exvalos91d ago

You sound like a salty fanboy, that it didn't come to your precious plastic of choice. It's not the developers fault Nintendo continues making underpowered hardware. It's our fault because we keep buying it. Yes I say (we) I'm part of the problem as well.

ZeekQuattro91d ago

I have a PS3 and a Wii U. How was I a salty fanboy? I bought the game on the system I wanted it for.

Rebel_Scum91d ago

Nah my comment has nothing to do with whether you’d know or not that they’d drop support.

Buying any AAA game of that era for a WiiU you should’ve known you’d be sacrificing graphics and load times.

LucasRuinedChildhood92d ago

It's solid but Origins is definitely not the best Arkham game.

LoveSpuds91d ago

Smacks of hyperbole to me, talk about clutching at straws to create some drama around PS5!!

Titles like these are designed to get you to come in, go to their comment section and tell them how they're so wrong so they can boost their numbers.

Phoenix7691d ago

Even though its not the best arkham game in the series, its still an enjoyable game in its own right. What it do really well at though, was the crime investigations scenes. Which imo, were the best of the franchise.

goldwyncq91d ago

I don’t know about best game but it definitely has the best story and boss fights.

boing191d ago

Never played it and recently I've finally tried it via cloud on psn. It's not the best for sure, but it ain't bad either.

Batman: Arkham Origins - Open World Busy Work that Doesn't Hold Up 10 Years Later

Batman: Arkham Origins launched 10 years ago today, and sadly doesn't stand the test of time as well as its predecessors.

Petebloodyonion172d ago

I fail to grasp why this title is worse compared to Arkham City (according to the article) as the author didn't provide any argument to explain why aside from that it felt the bigger map compared to Arkham Asylum made the experience less tight.
More importantly, the author seems like he never played Arkham City since he described the game as linear (alongside Asylum).

The Unjustly Forgotten Batman: Arkham Origins Deserves A Resurgence

Despite certain flaws, Batman: Arkham Origins is a splendid entry in the legendary Arkham series and deserves better than being forsaken.

lellkay285d ago (Edited 285d ago )

It's the worst of the three in my opinion, but still really enjoyable. Definitely underated and gets far more crap that it deserves.

Should be included with the other Arkham games in the bundle.

Demetrius285d ago

I'm honestly enjoying it alot, my first time playing since I just decided to get a Xbox 360 slim for 65$, I cop some other gems too tho, I went into Arkham origins not expecting better than Arkham city but it does deliver plus the guy who voices batman did a good job aiming for the young Bruce impression
