'Battlefield 4' used to explain EA's vision of cross-platform gaming

XMNR: During an earnings call Wednesday, Electronic Arts explained that gamers have up to give game-enabled devices from consoles to smartphones to tablets to PCs. EA Labels president Frank Gibeau described a scenario where gamers use multiple devices to play and keep track of Battlefield 4 when it is released later this fall for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Truth be told it doesn't sound too much different then what is going on, Outside of the commander mode on tablet that is.

But ever though I'm a pretty hardcore gamer across a lot of games, I rarely ever check news, and I only ever check my stats every couple of days or weeks. I also don't usually check out what my friends are doing unless we are about to do something together.

Of course, everyone does something a little different so adding it is in no way a bad thing. The more they add the better off we are, As long as it doesn't actually take away from the core experience.

yugovega3969d ago

commander mode made perfect since to be used on wiiu with the gamepad yet they choose to ignore it. shame.

MonkeyNinja3969d ago

I don't think the WiiU is powerful enough to handle it.

Not enough RAM, weaker CPU and especially GPU. It just wouldn't be the same game. No fully-destructible buildings collapsing in real-time, no 64-player online...

Not to mention the animosity that EA has toward Ninty.

sway_z3969d ago

Never mind mobile/tablet integration...now that PS4 and Xbox One are pretty much customised PC's, any chance of true cross platform play?

PS4

vs PC

XB1

Never mind the console wars..this would be truly epic!

Hufandpuf3969d ago

If there was cross platform play the PC players would have unfair advantage because of the mouse.

sway_z3969d ago

Not necessarily...both PS4/Xbox One have USB...and most people already have a desk top PC in the home.

A simple Keyboard/Mouse option in the controller menu will remedy that!

The disadvantage will be if you choose to play via controller.

Hufandpuf3969d ago

True but if that's the case then I'd rather selecting an option to cross play than be required to cross play. Because if I didn't have a KB&M, I don't want to be at a disadvantage for that.

sway_z3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

Nobody mentioned Mandatory cross platform play???

It's just an option to play PS4/XB1 FPS's using KB&M...

My entire comment was hyperthetical, so why the disagrees dumb cattle people!!

Not directed at you Hufandpuf...but some people are thick as S##T man!!

Super Taru3969d ago

It would be awkward with a keyboard/mouse for PS4/Xbox One whatsoever. Why not do it more simple? Like, cross-play just between PS4 & Xbox One. I think it would be simpler and more even for players of each console.

Sure i like playing on PC and i am use to K&M but i just prefer a controller better. But thats just me.

Shadonic3969d ago

I remember like 2 E3's ago when they did have a cross platform game on the 360 PS3 and PC sony and MS never accepted it I guess.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot758d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250757d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface757d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop757d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno757d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel758d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps757d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

Pudge102888757d ago (Edited 757d ago )

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33757d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888757d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH757d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

There's a bunch of great shooters on gamepass; both legacy and new.

A recommendation I have is a work in progress preview title called Anacrusis. It's a lot of fun, and has a cool aesthetic.

5 Games That Started Out As A Buggy Mess

KeenGamer: "Sometimes a game starts out as a buggy mess and we all just stop and think, “that definitely could have spent a bit more time in the oven”. This is the case for these 5 games which infamously marked their place in recent game memory."
