Xbox One Pre-Order Product Information- Xbox One to only work in certain countries at launch

Xbox One games are for activation and distribution only in specified geographic regions. See game package and/or retailer product information, for each game’s specific geographic regions.

a_bro3968d ago (Edited 3968d ago )

so wait, does that mean, if i buy the system from a country that's not listed here, it wont work regardless cause its connected to XBL with the always online? LMAO

dedicatedtogamers3968d ago (Edited 3968d ago )

But but but always online is the future, bro! THE FUTURE (of excluding gamers based on their geography)!

I told you, Microsoft! http://n4g.com/user/blogpos...

This is a disaster!! Microsoft just commited suicide for good!

This will make a lot more sense when Microsoft announce their new director of operations; Mr. Haz Kirai.

First up on Kirai's agenda, the X1 will only operate if you have a certain blood type. 24 hour periodic checks will of course be required.

dedicatedtogamers3968d ago

Heads up!

Jim Sterling (Destructoid) just reported that not only does the XBox One require an internet connection (we already knew that), but it requires a 1.5 MBPS minimum speed.

karl3968d ago

Actually u have 24hrs from the moment u open the box

kneon3968d ago

@dedicatedtogamers

Are you sure about that? I thought I read that it was 1.5MB of data per day, not connection speed.

Maybe the connection speed is the minimum to make the cloud computing viable.

...I can say, without a doubt in my mind, Microsoft have shot themselves in the foot. They've basically alienated a big portion of the gamers in the PAL regions and Japan. Wow!

Sony have won without a doubt.

AsimLeonheart3967d ago

Looks like MS has gone mad. I do not know what they were thinking designing such a product. How can they expect this thing to sell with so many restrictions? A customer would need a highly detailed instructional manual with all the do's and dont's to play this thing. Maybe MS will publish the manual after the console release and make money from that as well. Free manuals with a product are also hurting the industry, you know. ;-)

jokes aside, wouldnt they want to sell as many systems as they can so that they can increase their install base and get that steady flow of games from 3rd party developers?

this always online joke limits them from doing so.

apparently not this is kinda ridiculous that they doing this

Yes i guess thats where they are headed with all this tv bs. Get the non gamers, drop the core games. I hope they fail and come back with some sense the generation after.

maniacmayhem3967d ago

Has anyone noticed Japan isn't on the list or am I missing something?

I mean the rest of the countries they have listed are pretty big in terms of the gaming market but they seriously left out one of the biggest gaming nation on the list.

Did they just give up on Japan or can I not read in alphabetical order?

majiebeast3968d ago (Edited 3968d ago )

Most hilarious thing Witcher 3 made in Poland cant be played in Poland. Dead rising 3 made by Japanese publisher cant be played in Japan.

Remember you could play the console you buy everywhere yeah Microsoft doesnt. Dont support this piece of junk. I wonder if it comes with an American flag pattern.

Testfire3968d ago

I agree, but don't bring nationalities into this. I'm American and I love my country and I hope you love yours too. MS DOES NOT represent America, they only represent themselves. Don't let the media and greedy corporations give you a bad of every American, it's not right.

Hell! This thing is strange, this make me think that Xbox live now locks you to your country! Think this!
Why would they do this explanation of "don't work in this country" if i can buy a xbox in Portugal and use live brazil, USA, UK, ...?
Does this mean that if i buy a "brazilian Xbox" i will need to stick whit "brazil xbox live" that is centurys apart to "USA Live" (fact, USA live is the best Xbox live in the world!)!!!
This can mean deep shit for Microsoft!!!!

Sorry just noticed the Sarcasm, but seriously anyone interested in this sorry excuse for a console wants their heads examining.

Blackdeath_6633968d ago

it will only play games in those 21 countries at launch and tv services will only be available for the US. other countries can still watch blu-ray vids but that's about it.

KrisButtar3968d ago

"tv services will only be available for the US. other countries can still watch blu-ray vids but that's about it."

Canadians usually gets lumped in with the US with a lot services(PSN,XBL)think they will get the TV services as well?

Blackdeath_6633968d ago

@KrisButtar
your guess is as good as mine. i would say canada and uk will be the first to get the tv thing i don't even know what to call it anymore you will basically be able to use the tv you already have with the kinect for whatever reason.

Foliage3967d ago

You could just turn off the xbox one and use your television regularly; or not buy it at all. No need to wait for an xbox one to turn your television on; just use the power button you already own. Save your $500.

T23967d ago

@KrisButtr - not a chance Canada is included in the TV service on day one. We have this thing called the CRTC which is our television police and they deal on all licensing rights... basically a certain channel is allowed a monopoly on any show for a certain time. We didn't even have "family guy" on netflix for the first 3 years ... finally got it now. you would be amazed how few countries will have any TV service from XBL.

PS4 is completely region free and does not require you to check in every single day you touch it.

PS4 is not restricted out of any spot on the planet.

I wonder how long before foreign developers drop support for a console that their family can't play their games on in their region? Some of my proudest moments developing games is getting my loved ones to play them.

Foliage3967d ago (Edited 3967d ago )

They also then announced that your current Micro points will expire in a year; during the conversion to their new system.

Just when you thought they had no feet left to shoot...

Just wait until word spreads further about the manufacturing troubles Microsoft is having with the xbox one; trying to rush it to compete with the Playstation deadline. Overheating issues when your electronic device has a fan that large; is definitely a horrible sign.

They also are having issues with low eSRAM manufacturing yields.

Rumours are quickly spreading that the GPU will have to be downgraded. Making the PS4 GPU not only 2x stronger as the current released specs depict; but actually 3x stronger.

That's just insane.

PS4 on average has made 60 units available to major retailers (projected estimates; to gauge how many pre-orders to take in); xbox one has only guaranteed 6. They then pump their chests claiming they are "selling out". With only 6 units; I sure hope they would be. The elephant in the room is that PS4 is selling out faster; with 10x the units anticipated at launch.

Ouch!

SegataSanshiro3968d ago

that is a cuban territory, didn't you see the map? no Xbox on cuba

GraveLord3968d ago

Actually it won't be sold in those countries not listed there at all. What this means is that if you take your console to a different country that's not listed there, it won't work even if you are connected tot he internet.

Think of it as a Super Region Lock.

sags793968d ago

If what you say is true... good lord.

I sure hope SONY doesn't do something similar. I would like to keep using my "fake US" PSN account to pay and buy games.

I mean, even if they do, since the console won't need to check online I could just settle for single players games as a WORST case scenario.

Sevir3968d ago

doesn't come with any of those restrictions so why hope when Every one of the Sony Computer entertainment execs say that the system works everywhere with zero limitations to how you game...

The xbox one is the most draconic gaming console ever conceived and I feel terrible for the ones who buys into this kind of thing! To think Capcom gave MS an exclusive and the game cant play in japan... FF fans who buy KH3 and FF15 cant play in japan... LORD

MS committed harakiri a million times over with this move.

Who's the idiot who pushed this for MS's games division when the 360 was such a smashing success with the gamers? Good luck Greenpowerz!!!

It might be that. But peeps from my country just choose whatever country on the list (ussually uk) when creating a live account. And live still works perfect.

"Xbox One games are for activation and distribution only in specified geographic regions. See game package and/or retailer product information, for each game’s specific geographic regions." I think if you buy games from 2nd region (eu) you need to activate it in an account that's registered in a 2nd region country.

a_bro3968d ago (Edited 3968d ago )

they already gave it away regardless if it launched later.

no one wants restrictions, besides, if the PS4 costs $400 US Dollars here, its pretty much going to be a tad bit cheaper over there.

Vip3r3968d ago

Lets face it, the PS4 is gonna dominate Japan. Just like the PS3.

Lovable3968d ago

I believe I heard somewhere that MS is still deciding on the release date for Japan. Though tbh, Xboxone won't sell at all in Japan.

Good thing for JRPG lovers like me though, since JRPG will mostly be directed to Japanese audience, that means no more exclusivity to Xboxone console. PS4 will hog all the JRPGs for sure.

SonyPS43968d ago

Might as well forget about Japan. The first two systems didn't do any good there, how would you think the One would? Even Japan has internet better suited for this "online" console than us westerners do.

T23967d ago

the only reason I could see for MS to even set foot in Japan would be for pride. I can't imagine they could ever turn a profit there. Even spending money on advertising would be like burning money there.

Bethesda Needs to Reduce the Gaps Between New Fallout and Elder Scrolls Releases

Waiting a decade for new instalments in franchises as massive as Fallout and Elder Scrolls feels like a waste.

gamingbolt.com
-Foxtrot10h ago

Microsoft have Obsidian but I feel it's Bethesda who just don't want to play ball as they've always said they want to do it themselves.

Once MS bought Zenimax in 2020 they should have put the Outer Worlds 2 on the back burner, allow Bethesda to finish off its own Space RPG with Starfield (despite totally different tone why have two in your first party portfolio with two developers who's gameplay is a tad similar) and got Obsidian for one of their projects to make a spiritual successor to New Vegas.

When the Elder Scrolls VI is finished Bethesda can then onto the main numbered Fallout 5 themselves.

The Outer Worlds 2 started development in 2019 so putting it on the back burner wouldn't have been the end of the world, they'd have always come back to it once Fallout was done and it would have been nicely spaced out from Starfields release once they had most likely stopped supporting it and all the expansions were released.

If they did this back in 2020 when they bought Zenimax and the game had a good, steady 4 - 5 years development, you might have seen it release in 2025.

We are literally going to be waiting until 2030 at the very earliest for Fallout 5 and all they seem bothered about is pushing Fallout 76.

RaidenBlack8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Its not just only Todd not playing ball.
Obsidian have made a name for themselves in delivering stellar RPGs, but most famous once have always been sequels/spin-offs to borrowed IPs like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Stick of Truth etc.
Obsidian wants to invest more in their own original IPs like Outer Worlds or Pillars of Eternity with Avowed.
Similar to what Bluepoint & inXile wants to do or Kojima is doing (i.e not involving anymore in Konami's IPs).
So yea, even if New Vegas has the most votes from 3D Fallout fans, Obsidian just wants to do their own thing, like any aspiring dev studio and MS is likely currently respecting that.
But a future Fallout game from Obsidian will surely happen. Founder Feargus Urquhart has already stated an year ago that they're eager to make a new Fallout game with Bethesda, New Vegas 2 or otherwise. Urquhart was the director of the very first 1995's Fallout game after all.
And don't forget Brian Fargo and his studio inXile, as Brian Fargo was the director of Fallout's 1988 predecessor: Wasteland

KyRo4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Obsidian should take over the FO IP. They're do far better with it than Bethesda who hasn't made a great game for almost 15 years

Duke194h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I disagree. Part of these games is the support for the mod community. If they move to releasing a "next game" every 2 or 3 years, the modding support plummets and the franchises turn into just another run of the mill RPG.

Make the games good enough to withstand the test of time, to keep people coming back to them and expanding on them with mod support.

--Onilink--1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I dont think anyone is saying they need to come out every 2 years (not to mention almost no game is released that quickly anymore)

By the time Fallout 5 comes out, it will be more than 15 years since Fallout 4 came out (same with ES6 coming out 15 years after Skyrim). Even if you want to use F76 as the metric for the most recent release, that one came out in 2018. It will be a miracle if F5 comes out before 2030

The point is that for a studio that doesnt seem to operate with multiple teams doing several projects at once, that their projects normally take 4-5 years as a minimum, and that now they even added Starfield to the rotation, it becomes a 15+ years waiting period between releases for each series, which doesnt make sense. Imagine that Nintendo only released a mainline Mario or Zelda game every 15 years…

They either need to start developing more than 1 project at a time, let someone else take a crack at one of the IPs or significantly reduce their development times

Duke1912m ago(Edited 9m ago)

Why should someone else take a crack at one of the IPs? Look at what happened to Final Fantasy as a recent example - there is pretty clear FF fatigue setting in because they are now pumping out titles in the franchise every few years. Pumping out more games faster doesn't always make a series better.

There are plenty of options to make new games, not just create more titles in the same universe at a faster pace.

mandf1h ago

Yeah I’m going to say it, who cares about the modding community when making a game? Half the time developers only tolerate modders because they fix there game for them.

Skuletor3h ago

Yeah, let's all advocate for smaller gaps between series' releases, then we'll probably get headlines about how the series have dropped in quality and they could have benefited from more time in the oven. Let them cook.

SimpleSlave2h ago

"how the series have dropped in quality and they could have benefited from more time in the oven" So every Bethesda game then? Got it.

Listen, I would agree if this was about From Software or something, but Bethesda?

🤣

C'mon now. What timeline are you from?

Skuletor7m ago

Think about it, they're already bug filled messes on their current schedule, can you imagine how much worse it would be if they rushed things?

Duke1911m ago

I mean you aren't wrong. People are going to complain about anything

isarai2h ago

Hows about you focus on quality, just a thought 🤷‍♂️

Sciurus_vulgaris1h ago

Bethesda [or Microsoft] would have to reallocate internal and external studios towards fallout and elder scrolls titles. Bethesda has the issue of developing 2 big IPs that are large RPGs on rotation. If you want more Fallout and Elder Scrolls, development will have to be outsourced.
