The Best Kinect Game I Ever Played

What could happen if the Xbox One motion controller got things right?

malokevi3969d ago

"The Kinect is currently being perceived more as a means for Microsoft to spy on people, partially because the internet is full of rumour-mongering idiots and mostly because Microsoft has not yet presented their new Kinect in a true gaming light."

Lol. Nice.

I agree with the article. The potential for Kinect in the coming generation is huge. I can't wait to see how it gets integrated into hardcore/AAA titles. I have faith that developers will be abel to do some things that will turn the heads of box and Sony fans alike.

Hopefully we will get a better taste at E3 next week.

LOGICWINS3969d ago

What I find amusing is that the same people who criticize Kinect for allegedly spying on them don't realize that their online purchases/browsing habits are being tabulated EVERY DAY by Facebook, Google etc. This is how they tailor their ads to consumers.

malokevi3969d ago

Oh, they realize. They simply practice a vicious double-stanard, where everything they do in life is OK, but XboxOne is not.

Cameras in stores, on the street, on their phone, built into their laptop, watching them piss in a middle school locker-room.... none of that matters. But a camera built into what is essentially a TOY, protected by untold layers of heavily funded security infrastructure and privacy options, now THATS something all playstation fanboys need to worry about.

Because they would have considered getting an XboxOne even if the Kinect wasnt packed in.... right? *eyes roll around in head*

Also, that everyone has the ability to 'unplug the thing'

@LOGICWINS

Tell me about it, I've seen people here say the FBI is going to monitor it, and that it'll increase false-claims of child abuse, by watching parents with spoiled kids...

^^Thats not an option on N4G. That would make too much sense

@majiebeast you are the only one in here spinning a tale. You seem to pop up on all the MS articles and yet you clearly seem to have no desire to get the next Xbox. I am sure they have a name for that kind of behavior....

Maybe some of us just don't want to mime controllers and just prefer to you know, use a controller. And we certainly don't like being told that this is how we want to play.

@LOGICWINS: browsing data and facebook usage =/= video surveillance in your home no matter how you Microsoft apologists want to spin it.

BattleTorn3969d ago (Edited 3969d ago )

He was refering to purchasing habits.

As in, there already are companies that monitor how we manage our wallets, more than any (in-home) webcam ever could...

"The potential for Kinect in the coming generation is huge."

I kinda feel like the same thing was said about the original and nothing of value came from it.

ShwankyShpanky3968d ago

Right... "rumor mongering idiots" that can read an EULA.

The current XBL EULA includes the following. Keep in mind that the term "Services" will cover a much broader spectrum with the One.

"If you use ... Kinect, we may also collect data about the way in which you interact with the console and the Services to improve Microsoft products and services."

...and this:

"Personal information collected by Microsoft may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country or region in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers maintain facilities. You consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country or region."

...and of course:

"we may access or disclose information about you, including the content of your communications, in order to: (a) comply with the law or respond to lawful requests or legal process; (b) protect the rights or property of Microsoft or our customers, including the enforcement of our agreements or policies governing your use of the Services; and (c) act on a good faith belief that such access or disclosure is necessary to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, customers, or the public."

All of these terms subject to the interpretation of MS/govt lawyers. And with the "always on," this can be easily abused. "Oh, we thought you might be doing something against our EULA, so we checked to see if there was any audio or video from the Kinect that was related to that." "Oh, the Feds saw you buying supplies for your indoor veggie garden at the hydroponics store, so they 'lawfully requested' that we check if there was any audio or video related to that."

@below: Some of us are smarter with our internet usage, and prefer not to hand over every detail of our lives on a silver platter.

cameras in stores: how does that equate to a camera in my private home?
on the street: public spaces do not confer reasonable expectation of privacy. Again, how does that equate to a camera in my private home?
on their phone: ...looking at the inside of my pocket?
in their laptop: 1) not in my laptop. 2) piece o' tape
in a middle school locker room: show me a case where that's *not* illegal

Microsoft Spying on Users For Free
http://www.networkworld.com...
"earlier this year (2010) ... FTC also named Microsoft as one of the companies that failed to keep the promises they made to consumers regarding the security of their personal information. According to testimony [PDF] delivered to the Senate, "Failure to maintain reasonable security is an "unfair" practice that violates the FTC Act involved such practices as the alleged failure to:
1. comply with posted privacy policies
2. take even the most basic steps to protect against common technology threats.
3. dispose of data safely
4. take reasonable steps to guard against sharing customer data with unauthorized third parties.

I haven't played Fable:The Journey, though I don't mind the idea of it being shipped with the Xbox One.

I'm not much of a Kinect fan really, but I did like the voice commands in Mass Effect 3. (they were enough for me to eventually play on PS3 for other reasons tho)

My favorite Kinect game: (I haven't played all too many)

Fruit Ninja!

Anyone with Kinect should get it!

guitarded773968d ago

I need to play it. I bought it new on Black Friday for $15 and haven't even opened it. I keep the Kinect in the living room since there's more room in there, but my wife is always watching TV in there, so I usually just stick to my gaming rig.

Being able to turn on my tv and ps4 with voice commands does seem pretty awesome.

I don't mind paying for the XBone as long as it succeeds as an accessory to improve the ps4.
