I agree with the article. The potential for Kinect in the coming generation is huge. I can't wait to see how it gets integrated into hardcore/AAA titles. I have faith that developers will be abel to do some things that will turn the heads of box and Sony fans alike.

Hopefully we will get a better taste at E3 next week.

What I find amusing is that the same people who criticize Kinect for allegedly spying on them don't realize that their online purchases/browsing habits are being tabulated EVERY DAY by Facebook, Google etc. This is how they tailor their ads to consumers.

Oh, they realize. They simply practice a vicious double-stanard, where everything they do in life is OK, but XboxOne is not.

Cameras in stores, on the street, on their phone, built into their laptop, watching them piss in a middle school locker-room.... none of that matters. But a camera built into what is essentially a TOY, protected by untold layers of heavily funded security infrastructure and privacy options, now THATS something all playstation fanboys need to worry about.

Because they would have considered getting an XboxOne even if the Kinect wasnt packed in.... right? *eyes roll around in head*

The current XBL EULA includes the following. Keep in mind that the term "Services" will cover a much broader spectrum with the One.

"If you use ... Kinect, we may also collect data about the way in which you interact with the console and the Services to improve Microsoft products and services."

...and this:

"Personal information collected by Microsoft may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country or region in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers maintain facilities. You consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country or region."

...and of course:

"we may access or disclose information about you, including the content of your communications, in order to: (a) comply with the law or respond to lawful requests or legal process; (b) protect the rights or property of Microsoft or our customers, including the enforcement of our agreements or policies governing your use of the Services; and (c) act on a good faith belief that such access or disclosure is necessary to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, customers, or the public."

All of these terms subject to the interpretation of MS/govt lawyers. And with the "always on," this can be easily abused. "Oh, we thought you might be doing something against our EULA, so we checked to see if there was any audio or video from the Kinect that was related to that." "Oh, the Feds saw you buying supplies for your indoor veggie garden at the hydroponics store, so they 'lawfully requested' that we check if there was any audio or video related to that."

on the street: public spaces do not confer reasonable expectation of privacy. Again, how does that equate to a camera in my private home?

I haven't played Fable:The Journey, though I don't mind the idea of it being shipped with the Xbox One.

I'm not much of a Kinect fan really, but I did like the voice commands in Mass Effect 3. (they were enough for me to eventually play on PS3 for other reasons tho)

I need to play it. I bought it new on Black Friday for $15 and haven't even opened it. I keep the Kinect in the living room since there's more room in there, but my wife is always watching TV in there, so I usually just stick to my gaming rig.

Being able to turn on my tv and ps4 with voice commands does seem pretty awesome.

I don't mind paying for the XBone as long as it succeeds as an accessory to improve the ps4.

Kinect and hardcore titles do not court one another. The moment you remove the controller, you lose.

I would argue that a hardcore game is not dependent on a controller. Back in the day everyone said it was only a hardcore game if it had mouse and keyboard. What failed for hardcore games and the first kinect was two fold in my eyes:

1) Biggest reason it never caught on to a great hardcore game was the tech was very limited in what it could do vs what was originally promised. Developers had to make many concessions if they wanted to use it (other than voice commands)

2) Developers tried to shoe horn in gimmicky play vs really seeing what the camera did well and just use that to its strengths.

I just honestly think that once you have the player mimicking the movements, that you actually remove the player from the game. Conventional thinking would lead you to believe it's more immersive, but it actually has the opposite effect. We are programmed as gamers to have instant feedback upon using buttons and sticks. We sit and we play. When the player begins to move around to achieve a certain action, #1- it will never work properly 100% of the time, #2- it actually delays the intended action for obvious reasons, and lastly - controllers never went obsolete. They work as intended and to force Kinect upon us is unnecessary.

Sure Kinect 2.0 may work much better than Natal, but it still comes with caveats.

fair counter points. I will just tack on to your "controllers never went obsolete" comment with the counter that keyboard and mouse never went obsolete. They co-exist and motion controls too can co-exist "IF" the tech is improved to the point that it works as intended 99.9% of the time. (I give a grace of .1% cause even controllers hiccup sometimes with a laggy response to a button push)

Speaking of best Kinect games I love how people on here think those 15 exclusive titles will be "Kinect, Kinect, Kinect."

If that was the case then why in the world would they enhance the controller for Xbox One? If MS didn't care about the core they would made some very lazy efforts with the controller. Instead they fixed the D-Pad and even added in vibrating triggers and enhanced the Feedback on it.

That controller is as hardcore as it gets. Only fanboys think everything will be about Kinect.
