The Last Of Us Demo Unlocks Today

Those with God Of War Ascension can today – in a matter of hours – start playing The Last Of Us. Or, rather, a demo of the game, presumably the exact same demo we tested a few weeks back here.

It’s likely that – if it is the same demo – you’ll have a small download and then the game will use the files already present on the God of War disk. In our case we had to grab a downloader and then pull down a few GB from Sony’s servers, but hopefully they’re using the content you already have locally.

The demo contains two locations and two very different styles of gameplay. There’s no real spoilers other than you’ll know – once the demo ends – about one new character and have some idea of Joel and Ellie’s motivations.

We’ve been playing the full game for a while now – you can expect full details and our review next week. Until then, enjoy the demo!

It would be if the demand weren't so high that it made the PSN grind to a halt. It took me 15 minutes to get the download started. It was really quick once it started but it took a while to get there. Just a few seconds more in the second part of the download and I'll be ready to play.

^You could hope that ND releases it for PS4, after all they said that they use the same engine for PS4 and TLOU is even downscaled to run smooth on PS3 so technically it shouldn't be a problem to rerelease it on PS4.

PS4 is not gonna play PS3 games so if you can get a PS3 cheap I would get one then wait about at least a year after launch of the PS4 then get one.

I already saw the demo so I didnt spoil anything, I actually played it a few times to get use to the mechanics and the controls.Tried to take everyone out quietly in hard mode.I probably can now that I know where pretty much where the 4 guys are.

Keep an eye out for Gamestop trade in deals. You can sometimes get double trade value on consoles. Re-flow the board so that it turns on and with double credit you can get $150 for that PS3. Gamestop refurbishes them regardless of condition is what I was told. So nobody loses.

having just completed the demo all i can say is HOLY F**K
ive never played a game that has been so intense since the good old resident evil games back in the day.
the short demo from gow:ascension was enough to convince me that this is a must buy game.

strangling the infected and watching them gasp for air was the most exhilarating experience ive ever had in a video game and ive played a sh*t load of games over the years.

honestly if you can get hold of the demo do yourself a favour and play this. no sane gamer should skip this masterpiece

Sorry if I seem misunderstood. I don't think Ascension is bad in anyway...it looks absolutely amazing...but with PS4 incoming and PS3 still releasing stellar games like TLOU/Beyond/GT6/GTA5, I seriously need to watch the cash flow.

Only because it didn't improve upon it's predecessor (honestly, can you imagine a game surpassing GoW3's epicness) doesn't mean it's a bad game. If you liked 3 then you'll also like Ascension. And the multiplayer can be a lot of fun, too.

Yeah, Ascension isn't the best. Reminded me of the PSP GoWs, setpiece after setpiece after setpiece, etc. It's all flashy and looks cool, but it has no substance.

I got to the Tower of Delphi, or whatever it's called, before I stopped playing. Haven't touched the MP part and never will.

I have to agree partly. It's definately not the best GoW but it's still fun to play. I found the MP to be much more entertaining though. You can still try it out but it's hard to get into at this stage. I was one of those who said GoW doesn't need an MP but in the end I've played it for over 25h hours.
And since I like to support Sony's first party I bought it blindly, just like the TLOU now :)

Unfortunately Plus members will not have access to the demo today to my understanding. However, I do hope that I am wrong for the sake of all those unfortunate souls who haven't taken the GOW: Ascension retail plunge as the game is epic. According to my Arizona estimations I should have access in 2h:45m:06secs.

I wonder if my copy of GoW:A will give me access, it's a UK disk and I live in Holland, EU. I didn't get to see the counter by pressing square in the GoW menu either, so it probably won't work.

Next time I'm offered a special edition for the tegular price I guess I'll have to check the disk first.

I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. I have a US version of the game and it's just the regular version. I think you have to be signed into your PSN before choosing the game from the XMB, boot the game up, and a prompt on the main menu should appear for the demo( I think it was the square button). I hope this helped.

Not yet:) I never updated GoW because of the Trial of Archimedes, and it has to update when signed in, cancelling the update signed me out, and no demo. So I decided to update once I realised I can delete the update again after I play the demo...but for the first time ever the download got stuck, it just stopped and restarting it only gives corrupted data and a suggestion to write down a code and contact support. First time I see this, so thanx pal, thanx a lot;)

Nevermind, I blame Archimedes, and TLoU is one game I don't really need a demo for. I'll just wait, a little longer.

Just played it.

It's short, not quite as polished as the final game will be, but it's amazing how fast the game builds atmosphere. It was clearly one of the first levels, and was out of context, but it was effectively creepy, and you definitely felt the resource constrictions.

I'm very optimistic for the final product.

Are you fucking kidding me Naughty Dog? You said we will get an exclusive, early access to The Last Of Us demo with God Of War: Ascension. By early you meant two weeks before the game launches, and by exclusive you meant a demo that has been available at PAX East and at local video game stores. On top of that it's only 5 minutes long and there are only like four enemies.
The quality of the game is crazy high none the less, but I am still disappointed.

The demo was pretty crap, to be honest. Way too short and it seems to be that crappy beta build from February because it doesn't look as good as all of those videos from the last few days.

The atmosphere was amazing, though, and the Clickers are awesome. Can't wait to play the full game.

Edit: Oh, and can anyone make out what the Runners/Stalkers/whatever they're called are saying? I was getting chased by the few that's at the end of the demo and noticed that they're talking.

Played it. The demo was very short and really only demonstrates movement, atmosphere and very, very little combat. I know the demo is just suppose to be a taste of what to expect, but this demo was less than a taste. It was a tease of a taste.

Considering the method in which Naughty Dogg released the demo - having to own God Of War: Ascension, plus the months of waiting for it's release, it's a letdown.
