The Last of Us 'an easy contender for best game of the generation', says first review

Naughty Dog's latest gets a perfect score in Empire Online review - and yep, it gets the Citizen Kane treatment.

The first review of The Last of Us has appeared online ahead of next week's global embargo - and it looks like fans are in for a treat.

Naughty Dog's latest is awarded a perfect 5/5 in Empire's review, which claims that the game is an "easy contender for the best game of this console generation".

VideoGamer.com's review of The Last of Us goes live next Wednesday, June 5 at 3pm BST. Can't wait until then? Simon's finished it, and he speaks briefly about his experience with the final game in this week's podcast.

It seems like they took down the review from that site. Mustve posted it by accident since its too early but its a legit review. Or I wouldve put the credit source for the 1st review.

No one posts their review early by accident, its all about hype.

because it was such a good review...it was allowed to be leaked for a short time.

This inputs the idea that the game is really good...and your stuck with that thought for a few days before it's release.

This way there are 3-5 days of nobody disputing that or writing anything negative it's just that one positive thought, replayed in your mind over and over.

I'm assuming the game actually is good though. It seems different enough and they look like they care about gaming with this game.

There are no assumptions required; if you have any interest in this game you will already have seen some live footage demos.

This game WILL be at least "Very Good" and more than likely "Amazing/GOTY", so now you can relax and remove that ridiculous tinfoil hat, ha ha ;P

To me this is a -Day One- I would be surprised if you could find anyone saying I'm not getting this one, especially after seeing the play-though

Well the Demo comes out today at 1:00pm so I guess we are going to find out if it's really as good as all these reviews are saying..

I preordered it a few days ago and I've strictly monitored what I'm seeing. I can't wait for my "Joel Edition" to arrive, this sounds fantastic! bApart from the basic plot and the very early gameplay I'm practically going into this game blind! I can't wait; however, it has been a pain recently as I've been clearing up my backlog which means I must play the apalling AC3. I can't stand it BUT it is picking up as I'm at the church part when there is an important cutscene.

Ditto on the backlog. It turns out that joining PS+ ISN'T a good way to make your backlog get smaller...

God I need a break from all these free games. I hope the game next week is one i've already beat. It's getting out of hand. MY VITA is literally completely full with even more games waiting in the que to load onto it(and I delete nonreplayable games once I 100% them). First world problems.

IMA LETCHU FINISH The Last of Us, but GTA V IS GOING TO BE THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME.

Seriously though I can't wait for both of them. Both will be amazing.

But Naughty Dog makes great games which is something that you have to live with.

This isn't like Activision who makes horrible games that get great reviews and sell a ton like Call of Duty for example.

I think you have to give them credit for basically creating something brand new for and older machine about to be replaced. It is brave.

They could have easily knocked out another Uncharted instead take the money and run, just as we are seeing another Gears of War or another Halo but they didn't. They could have easily left this so you had to buy a whole new machine but they didn't.

I have high hopes for this game and with any luck they can carry it onto playstation 4 if it is successful.

Just read NG will use a scalable version of TLOU on PS4 titles. This is fine by me, since TLOU looks like a PS4 game at times.

Just pre-ordered PS4 (£599) via Amazon.co.uk...Obviously the price is going to be way less once announced at E3.

I believe the most interesting thing to find out about this, is that Naughtdog second team were developing this so if they we're able to double the amount of talent and maintain the same quality of work were looking at multiple IPs every 2-3 years from that studio that will impress us. I tip my hat off to them and to Sony for having excellent devs.

I think we need to wait for Beyond: Two Souls before we make this judgement. That's the one that i'm really looking forward to! Don't get me wrong here, i'm more than positive this game is gonna be one of the highlights for the whole gen, but Beyond: Two Souls really has pulled me in more than this one from what I have seen so far.
