PS4 VS XBOX ONE-The Controllers.

The next generation of consoles have been revealed, but which one is going to win over the majority of gamers?

For me, the controller is a big part of the gaming experience.
A good controller to me is one that gives you a good feel, enables you to have a nice flow when playing games and to access everything the console has to offer at ease.

I've always been a big fan of the 360 controller and Microsoft has, to my surprise succeeded in improving the look. I honestly didn't think it could get any better than the 360 controller. I love the new textures on the edge of the analog sticks, the improved triggers which will have a functionality to change the amount of pressure required to push down on them, the new integrated battery which gets rid of the bulk from the 360 controller, the improved d-pad which will give gamers much more ease to use and the overall look of the controller, which has really impressed me.

Sony has taken the Dualshock which many of us love and improved it even more. The new controller looks like it will have a great feel to it. The size has been improved from the Dualshock 3, the controller itself being wider, the triggers' improved and the handles longer to make it a controller that will feel great to hold. I'm also optimistic about the new touchpad, which could have good potential in not just games, but making the home screen interface a lot easier to use. This pad could enable gamers to scroll through the weapons or items they're carrying, use pinch and zoom for things like gun scoping and navigating around the home screen and swiping could allow players to do attacks a lot easier in games and, again, provide easy navigation on the home screen or in any game menu.

Another thing I like about the Dualshock 4 is the light bar which
will easily let us know who's controller is who's when playing multiplayer. Also, it was mentioned in the PS4 conference that the PS4 eye will have the ability to tell where the controllers are in the room and change the split-screens accordingly, which gets rid of the annoying "You're in my spot" situations.

The Dualshock 4 has a built-in microphone and headphone jack. This will be great for chatting to friends, and has the potential to be great for interacting with voice-required actions in games.

And Finally, PS4's controller has the 'share' button. This will allow gamers to take screenshots or in-game recordings and upload them to the Playstation community quickly and easily.

On looks, the Xbox One controller gets my vote. But overall, Sony's Dualshock 4 wins it for me. It has so many new features to offer gamers which will provide them with the best possible gaming experience.

What's your opinion on the new controllers? Please let me know, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

There's something about sonys controller needing no complete overhauls that speaks volumes about them to me. They've just made updates to keep it up to date and that's that. Its always felt like ms has had to play catch up with the controllers.

Would you really have been OK if Sony just released another Dualshock 3? I don't think Sony could have gotten away with that again

The XBox 360 controller is a fantastic controller all things considered. Yeah, the DPAD isn't on par, and the battery pack is annoying, but the Dualshock isn't perfect either. It's evident from the Dualshock 4 that Sony couldn't do nothing about the controller design, as a lot of people have really found the 360 d-pad to offer some good competition in various aspects. Personally, I think if people continued to withhold criticism, we wouldn't have gotten the amazing Dualshock 4, which looks miles better than the Dualshock 3 design. It's one of the benefits of competition in this industry.

The Dualshock 3/SIXAXIS also took steps back from the Dualshock 2. Analog sticks, ergonomics (due to L2/R2), and rumble were all better on the Dualshock 2. I'm real glad that Sony took the controller criticism seriously. They made all the right changes without making longtime fans feel alienated.

Sony realised the controller was outdated and had many problems. Even though it is a legendary controller as it has been around for along time, it doesn't make it the best and the criticism seems to have worked as Sony has made improvements.

Triggers were bad ( although Dualshock 1 & 2 didn't have triggers ) and long term use your hands would get cramps due to the small handles and having to stretch your fingers to use the analogs. Also your fingers would slip off the analogs at times too.

Microsoft controller was superbly designed. the 360 controller is undoubtedly more comfy in long term use. Although the dpad wasn't that great, this controller seems to be near perfect.

Sony's improvements are welcomed and seem to have fixed all the problems with the older one. Plus Sony knew the competition had one of the best controllers ever.

PS4's new D-pad looks epic. Can't wait to try it out with that new Guilty Gear XRD or some other 2D fighting game that comes out on PS4.

Hands down the new xbox controller is still simply the best.

Parallel analog sticks will always be inferior to offset analog sticks. This is why 3rd party controller makers NEVER make a parallel controller setup for the xbox system and they ALWAYS make an offset analog controller for the PS systems.

Not to mention, forcing your thumbs to be in a position they were not ment to be in causes arthritis. Our thumbs naturally point upwards, this is why the xbox controller is simply the best controller on the market. Now with the updated d-pad, there is nothing on any controller that is better then the xbox controller. I will be buying XO day one if not for the total entertainment package....but for the controller as well.

I highly dissagree with you. The 3 things I hate about the 360 controller is the stupid offset analog sticks. The left stick should be under the d-pad where it belongs. The d-pad itself feels cheap as heck, and the battery pack is just primitive tech.

I agree that the offset analog sticks are far superior and more comfortable to use but you are wrong in the fact that 3rd party controllers copy the offset stick. Numerous 3rd party brands make controllers for PS and still copy the parallel stick design. Overall 360 controller has been my favorite by far because I'm not a child with little boys hands. I'm a grown ass man and need a controller I can hold. Looking forward to checking out both consoles new controllers. Xbox One controller looks amazing and the new Dual shock looks like it has made great improvements on the overall ergonomics.
