Does PS4 need more traditional RPGs?

Team OPM debate whether there’s a place for next-gen role-players. Should classic RPGs fade away or could PS4′s new tricks be somewhere they should flourish and enjoy a renaissance.

i know, but they're catered for western people. and what's wrong with those games? DD and demon's souls are both games that focusing on gameplay, in comparison to skyrim for example.
Those games got the best combat in the RPG genre

Yeah, I agree, they're both excellent games, but I was just pointing out that if they're made in Japan, they are JRPGs.

JRPGs = aka final fantasy, turn based combat.

Western RPG = Real time combat, more focus on action.

Dragons Dogma and Demons Souls arent western role playing games, since they were made by japanese developers
edit: Monster Hunter is a jrpg and also has real time combat, so I dont get your point

only Nino Kuni and FF13 has sold well, that's why there aren't many of them on consoles anymore. Jrpg's these days are just as bad as current anime because they only cater to moe fans and that stuff is not very popular with western gamers. So people only buy stuff like Demon's Souls which is not traditional in a Japanese kind of way.

I wish we'd get more games like FF6-7 and Xenogears in the sense that the story is a bit serious and the art-style is not just suggestive themes with girls on mini-skirts like: the new Atelier, the new Tales games or that new TLoH: Trails in the Flash... Final Fantasy Vesus is all I care about and that game's vaporware, and where's Persona 5? Catherine was good but not a Jrpg. Valkyria Chronicles was good but Sega killed it (not traditional though).

If you havent played it, you should. God damn was the game amazing. Day/night cycles, fun battle mechanics, different ways of gaining allies with different requirements. Oh and all NPCs had their own daily routine. One of the best PS2 games ever :)

I love a good RPG but very little appeal to me of late. I would like a good ol fashioned Turn Based RPG.

Heck, ditch the voice acting if need be, I haven't enjoyed that many RPG's of late.

That's one of my favorite aspects of Persona 4 Golden.

You can set your teammates tactics in battle. One of which puts you in complete control of the entire party.

Good, old-fashioned turn based battles.

Such a fun and creative battle system imo.

The best thing SONY can do to redeem it self for all the pain & sorrow cause the hardcore JRPG fans from PS1/PS2 who buy a PS3 with the hope to play countless AAA JRPGs like the good old days & they couldn't find 1 good game to play is to create a new studio with the next generation with the sole purpose to pump triple A quality JRPGs in the market, & they can start with Legend of Dragoon 2! come on SONY do that sometime before my generation die, thousands of fans beg for it for 4ever now.. & after that continue with Legaia 3, that's what they must do to make me believe again that PS4 will bring the glorious days back.

Plenty of classic RPGs need to be made still.

Some series went missing in action and it's a shame, like Valkyrie Profile (When are we gonna get Valkyrie Profile 3: Hrist? Come on Tri-Ace!), Breath of Fire, Lufia.

I'd enjoy a new Star Ocean too, and of course, Persona 5 can't come soon enough (That one is in production, that much we know, so it's a good thing).

I'd enjoy some new SMT spin offs too, like Digital Devil.

And maybe some new Xeno games, never got to play XenoBlade and I can't find it at a decent price anywhere now.

Other come backs I would like to see would be Shadow Hearts, Legaia, Dark Cloud, Jade Cocoon, Wild Arms and Suikoden. And some more traditional Final Fantasy titles (I'll give lighning returns a chance still, production values are sure to be sky high, and the battle system reminds me a bit of Valkyrie Profile.)

Yeah so, bring them RPGs, you've got someone willing to lay down the money right here! :)

Need RPGs the PS3 did not see many RPGs as compared to its older brothers the PS2 and the PS1. Sony should crack open the Wild Arms franchise, Dark Cloud, Legend of Legia, and maybe create a sequal to Legend of Dragoon. Hopefully the PS4 will see some JRPGS everybody needs a break from FPS.
