As a gamer who has favored MS products in gaming for the past decade+ over ALL others. I will say without a doubt, as long as the consoles are similar in price at launch, Sony will strongly outsell the X1 worldwide BUT MS "might" hold on to North America since their X1 appears to be tailor made for this region and they have a big user base here.

I am not liking the X1 even a little bit. It appears MS made compromises to the X1 hardware to make it a more efficient multimedia hub. Gaming is no longer their primary focus and I'm a gamer.

If I want to social network, watch sports and movies? I have tablets, smart phones, smart TV's (2 of which that have motion controls which I never use. Tried them once or twice but don't use them now), broadcast receiver that has apps and a gaming PC hooked up to my triple panels in my gaming room.

I can watch sports, surf the web, game and text or social network all at the same time now. I don't need to purchase an entertainment hub when I already have the best of all worlds.

I need a new gaming console that's primary focus is giving me the best games possible not an all in ONE device when I, like most, already have it all.

I am in the minority on this site because I prefer my 360 over my ps3. in fact, i almost never play my playstation. but, after that xbox reveal, i can safely say that if i get a system at launch, it will be a ps4.

the problem i have, however, is that i love gaming online, and i absolutely cannot stand the sony community. it is teaming with rabid fanboys that completely ruin the gaming experience. N4G is a prime example of this. Just look at these ridiculous comments. immature hypocrites.

The PS4 should be fine because it has the core gamers market. The XO should also be fine too (if the price is right) because it's targeting the non-core market. Each market still attracts millions, depending on geo location.

No doubt the PS4 will be the fastest next gen console in terms of raw power (more CUs + GDDR5), but price, latency, and power wattage can also be higher. The XO is just better in thermal/performance balance. Hopefully next gen games will tell us which one has better real world performance.

Until we have the full details on the hardware for each system, it *appears* the PS4 has a slight performance edge. That said, MS's reveal yesterday completely turned me off. It felt like a "hey, don't forget about me" show, very disappointing. Considering how bad the reveal went yesterday, Sony is in a good position to capitalize at E3. They just need to make sure they show and say the right things.

Now to real world news ps4 will do quite well and will outsell Xbox one from day one. Xbox360's one year ahead start and one and half year ahead start in Europe couldn't crop an over priced hard to develop for ps3. So what makes anyone think a developer friendly and a system WIYJ most likely good launch lineup and a decent price point will make Sony or ps4 struggle?

I'd rather say in the worst case PS4 will launch 2:1 - or maybe even 4 : 1. LOL. And that is already a pessimistic view of some reacions which rather go 75:25 if you want to believe some stories.

I also think both will be fine down the road... Yes, MS didn't started very well, but neither did the Sony with the PS3 reveal, remember how the price was wrong, too much focus on centralizing entertainment and at release the alien architecture was tough on developers. Everywhere it was doom articles (exactly like the last two days for MS)). But they made it to turn things around by making the right decisions after that.

"A generation last years, not days" is a lesson Sony learned and may be now teaching. I'm sure MS will realign their plans as the costumer demands/pays for, in fact both companies will, the day one plan usually gets ajusted down the road as they add new technology, new stuff go trendy and the whole gaming industry evolve.

Now the whole backlash out of always online and game licencing is a problem that may put Xbox One at more risk, but not necessarily a deal breaker. I mean, it's obviously much more a presure from publishers than it's a desire from MS (or Sony if they show any similar restriction) and the only reason they are trying this now is obviously because those publsihers had been shoving us with incomplete/broken games, DLC crap, online passes, season/elite agreements and what not for the last 7+ years and we had been eating that. People voted with their wallets and they said "rape me". So if we can take any indication, yes people will be mad and, to some extent it will hurt sales, but more than enough people will probably be willing to swell their complains and buy the games anyway, provided they are good/popular enough. Also, if people do otherwise and simply don't buy into that anymore, then chances are they'll just change it down the road (let's hope this is the case).

Games wise, I don't think we ("hardcore" gamers for the lack of better term) have a lot to be concerned. Obviously both consoles are designed much similarly, so multiplatforms shouldn't be a problem as developers won't have a bad time to either get enough power (really easy to scale) or coding for each architecture (both are PC like). First party we know Sony had it right so far and MS made a good move to acquire more studios and put 'em to actually develop new games for its machine, now it's a question of not focusing so much on Kinect and keep those guys working (which, again, only depends on where the money is going).

I do think Sony have the upper hand here, they may enjoy some earlier success that may grant 'em a more confortable position thorughout the generation, but I don't think (or want) they'll pull a PS2 and transform a lead into complete domination unless MS really mess it up (which I hope they don't, it's much better for us if those companies feel each other breathing down their necks).

XB1 will likely be the one struggling. Nintendo tried a similar approach with WiiU. XB1 is just an HD glaze over what Nintendo is doing.

Sony is doing the same thing as well as having a diverse and open environment for all type of game developers. DirectX no problem, No big publisher then no problem, and so on.

XB1 and PS4 both will utilize the cloud to assist in many apps in the future that might slow down one day on the hardware.

It is very likely that all the features of the PS4 have not been revieled... With there new camera and there console I really didn't see anything Xbox one showed that they could not do on PS4.... So I see the PS4 doing everything xb1 showed, but there focus is on gamers and developers...
Sony also said that there machine will function with absolutely no Internet connection, MS on the other hand has said you will need an Internet connection... At least to check in online once every 24 hours.
Both may have some sort of block on used games... This maybe the way of the world, but really that just puts Nintendo and Wii U in good shape to out sell both x1 and PS4.

As of right now XBOX 1 is in trouble, it's been all negative since there reveal, and PS4 is looking like the choice for most people

That's an important flaw in MS' 'all-in-one box' strategy, and one that certainly should be stressed by media outside the U.S. Simply put, the TV aspects of X1 are immaterial outside of the States. Heck, I live in Canada, on the same bloody continent, and our content licensing laws prevent us from having anything near the same amount of content found on the U.S. version of Netflix on Netflix.ca.

MS can emphasize the TV content all they want. I won't pay more for a console that offers me less.

yeah I'm in canada too (obvious lol) and none of the sht you think would work within North America works at all, Netflix is a great example, so I have no faith that Rogers, Shaw, or Telus will convert the Xbone to any type of cable box, especially Shaw who has a huge monopoly here in BC.
In other words, why the hell would I buy a Xbone to sit there and pay monthly for it too? Same as my 360 just sits there now, no new games that are anyway worth money.
On top of that, Ps3 being bluetooth, I will still be able to use my headsets, keyboard, mouse, etc... on ps4. Xbox? as usual they want you to buy all your sht over again... not a chance.

PS4 can do EVERYTHING the Xbox can, except the Live Tv interaction.. Which if not already dead at least is dying... If Nintendo can get their act together and bring some seriously attractive titles to the Wii U this holiday season with an attractive price drop it is not far fetched that the Wii U could seriously put up a fight against the Xbox One for living room dominance. Sony did the only thing they could at their reveal, minimize the possibility of negatives and focus on the positives, and they did that very well.

When Sony came out and said "We're for gamer's, we are all about games.", it was very smart, because that is the key audience that will buy that console right away.

What Microsoft did was get the boring stuff out of the way, they ticked off some key gamer's, but they're obviously hoping a killer launch lineup and good exclusives will lure them back, but what I do know is that local news, and outlets like CNN and even my local paper had nothing but positive things to say about the new Xbox and how it was changing the face of the living room.

So if those key gamer's jump in on the Xbox One, and these other types of people get into it as well, I could see it being very successful, but you almost get the sense that Microsoft doesn't look at Sony as competition anymore, in the past maybe they'd respond to some of the more immature comments Sony has made, but they seemed pretty set on course.

If they address the used game fee, and come out with a price point $50-$100 cheaper than the PS4, they'll do well. I don't see any one console being the Lord Of The Rings, but it'll be interesting to see what happens, I believe the Xbox One could struggle at first, if they don't struggle at first it'll be fine, because it'll mean the key gamer group bought one anyway.

I don't see the X1 being cheaper than the PS4 at all specially when it's around the same specs of the PS4 and it comes with Kinect. That would also include the development done on the device plus all the new TV content they're working on that subscription fees may or may not cover. People here just don't see, and neglect all ACTUAL news sources. The buss around the Xbox One, outside of gaming journalism, was very positive.

I hate to say it people, but gamers are now just a minority in the entertainment business. Also, hardcore gamers are never very impressed by conferences anyways, (we withhold their allegence towards actual games!)
So, if MS has killer games at E3, that's all they'll need to draw the hardcore gamers, the minority that they are.

Sony addressing the hardcore in the conference was simply a desperate move to get the hardcore-minority to start defending them.

While MS is simply diversifyng and appealing to the entire entertainment industry. (a overall smarter business approach)

MS knows full well that addressing hardcore gamers as the main audience only addresses a minority of the market. A indecisive minority that will come running back if they show enough killer launch games.

LOL - I stated months ago that ps4 reveal was spot on, some games, some hardware, some features, some stuff saved for e3... If you think MS put all that sad sht together just to blow you away at e3, you are going to be sadly mistaken. I stated months ago that ps4, as of now, was ahead of the game and would fly off the shelves and that MS needed a big reveal to make up some ground. They haven't done that at all.

Microsofts vision for the Xbone is clearly very out of touch with consumers.

thats where you are wrong though. These abilities require Xbox to have Three Operating Systems. These OS require RAM that could have been used for gaming. As of now, the xbox one only has 5 RAM for gaming. The rest goes to background calculations for the things you mentioned. So yes, it does effect gaming. Don't get me wrong, I've been saying that MS will come out with plenty of games come E3. But The direction they are taking gaming is not something I look forward to. I think they will ruin gaming if they succeed. Microsoft's record with the 360 has shown that they will only cater to gamers so long as that market has not been saturated. During the second half the the current generation MS simply stopped catering to core gamers and focused on casuals and applications. Why? because that market had already been exhausted. They are not in this for making games, their focus is to become this "entertainment hub" that they keep talking about. To be fair Sony is also aiming for this since this is the only route if a console maker wants to stay relevant and be able to compete in the long term, however, Sony's strategy is different in that they focus more on games and add the applications as additions to a gaming console. With MS it's the other way around, gaming is simply an excuse for their other plans. People say "but they told us it reveal wasn't about games" that "MS will show games on E3". Of course Microsoft will bring plenty of games to E3, but the question is why would a game console be announced without Games?? What does that say about the vision of this company? I don't know how else Microsoft could have revealed their hand better for all to see. They will cater to core gamers at the beginning of this generation (just as they did with 360) then once the core gamers either buy into their system or they go Sony, they will move on to causal market. Since the launch of PS4 and Xbox one has been polar different to that of the PS3 and Xbox 360.

I tell you big reason why Xbox will struggle hear on out. You have to see the time line of what the console stood for:

1994: Playstation first disc games console, which had no end of amount of fun to it. It brought about modern gaming + N64 we love it to this days with the controller and 4 player gaming.

2000: Playstation 2 - Instant success, because it had a user base and design personality of refinement and fun.

2001: Xbox came out: Did well with in betweeners but should the world Microsoft with taxing developers from the PC division could create an awesome gaming console. It in the same position as PS1 (PSX).

2005: Playstation 3 had big user base but stood for futuristic power, sleek dark look and crammed with latest tech.

2005: Xbox 360 - Based on fun, outgoing, social console with emphasis on gaming - this reflected in the white/grey colour of the console.

2013: Playstation 4 pretty much the same but less dark and sleek but a heart in gaming.

2013: Xbox One much like the PS3 but much less emphasis on actual gaming.

i have been a xbox user since day 1 when i stood outside in the rain waiting for wal-mart to open, and now i have to say i will most likely be going to buy a ps4 because Microsoft is no longer in the game business but in the entertainment business . if i wanted to watch tv ill watch tv but i dont need an xbox-one to do that, i own a console to play games not Skype with friends or browse the internet. i am a gamer not social junkie who always needs input from multiple sources all at once. older consoles have more appeal then these new ones.

All I know is that Microsoft's stock went from $24 to $38 so they are doing something right.

I see Next Console Gen as a nothing more than a bunch of multiplats that will be made to run on Xbox1 then ported to PS4 and PC. Whoa just like last Gen.

Sony is gonna have to bring the HEAT with AAA Exclusives and Sony fans are gonna have to actually BUY them instead of talking about them or YES Sony will struggle as Xbox1 will be making cash without playing games.
