This was a foregone conclusion, as the game runs on the Frostbyte 3 engine, and EA said flat-out that they couldn't get the engine to work on the Wii U.

lilbroRx3987d ago

Wouldn't is the correct way to state it, not couldn't.

PopRocks3593987d ago

"Well said" for proper context.

cyguration3987d ago

They can get the FB3 to work on underpowered smart phones but they can't get the FB3 to work on Wii U?

Riiiiiight.

ABizzel13987d ago

The version for smartphones isn't the same one running on consoles, hence Frostbite Go vs Frostbite 3.

Frostbite is a CPU intensive engine which is why the Wii U was skipped over, as well as console sales, lack of 3rd party games selling on Nintendo platforms, and having to double down on the Wii U version due to the weak CPU.

Neonridr3986d ago

@ABizzel1 - yet Crytek can get the CryEngine 3 up and running no problem on the Wii U. What, now the Crysis games aren't CPU intesive suddenly?

makes you wonder...

MattS3987d ago

Also the last Need for Speed was a commercial disaster on the Wii U.

@cyguration the Frostbite Engine on mobile is Frostbite Mobile, not Frostbite 3.

meganick3987d ago

Of course. It was released months after the other versions for full retail. I don't know why these publishers expect late, full retail ports on Wii U to sell well. And then based on those poor sales, they drop support and don't release a Wii U version of future games even though they'd release on the same day as the other versions for the same price when it would make more sense to purchase the Wii U version. Weird.

JuleyJules3987d ago (Edited 3987d ago )

Sales for games now on Wii U cannot be a predictor for what will happen once big 1st party games are released starting this summer. Things will change for lots of future releases once sales pick up - and they most certainly will. Apparently it's already begun since the reveal of MS's Xbox One.

This is simply EA being EA not wanting to scale FB3 to Wii U.

SonyPS43987d ago

Don't fool yourself, EA simply didn't like Nintendo's refusal of their Origin service, so they pulled support for the Wii U, even if the game can run fine on the hardware. The Wii U is underpowered but it isn't THAT underpowered to the point they cannot get their F3 games to run on it. They simply don't want to.

This was a foregone conclusion.

Ehh. If the PS4 version is going to look a crapload better then I'd rather buy that version. Hopefully the Wii U will get a good amount of racing games in the future,

Myst3987d ago

Yeah I hope they have a driver's seat view with the dashboard on the pad.

What games are EA bringing to the Wii U?

lilbroRx3987d ago

Who cares? Any Nintendo fan who bought an EA product at this point would be insulting themselves and every Nintendo gamer.

TripC503987d ago

I own a Wii U. I got Need for Speed Most Wanted (EA product). The Gamepad intigration for that game is hillariously fun with my brother. Its a great game.

MattS3987d ago

And then justifying EA's decision to all-but give up on the Wii U.

These things go in circles. EA is not going to support the Wii U until people start buying Wii Us and EA games on the console. If you want EA to stop "insulting" you, than buy EA's games.

Brucis3987d ago

@Matts

Why would people buy substandard ports that don't include the content from previous versions? If they want Wii U owners to buy their games then maybe they shouldn't shaft them when they port the games.

TripC503987d ago

@ Brucis

Need for Speed Most Wanted on the Wii U (even though it was a commercial failure) IS a great port. I own it and I can tell you it is not sub standard. It includes the Speed pack and additional content not included unless through DLC on other platforms. So your comment blows and is boardering on the trollish

I was just wondering what games EA said they were bringing to the Wii U. They back tracked after the Xbox reveal, and now apparently they said none of their Star Wars games, sports games, racing games, or Battlefield are coming. What else is left? The Sims 4?! lol.

imXify3987d ago

Wasn't Most Wanted Wii U running frosbite ? EA are bad liars.

Yodagamer3987d ago

No it ran the chameleon engine, nfs the run ran on frostbite 2. Personally i think it's bs that frostbite 3 runs on xbox 360, but they can't get it to work on wii u. It's probably politics more than anything.

imXify3987d ago

Ahhh...didn't know. The games looked similar .-.

StoneyYoshi3987d ago (Edited 3987d ago )

No Most Wanted did not use the frostbite engine. NFS The Run is the only other NFS game to use the frostbite engine. Most anted used a modified Chameleon engine, Same as Hot pursuit.

Damn! Beat me Yoda did....*grumbling Yoda sound*

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga1d 15h ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

Profchaos1d 16h ago

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas1d 14h ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj1d 13h ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Chocoburger1d 9h ago

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
