MS did what they had to...just disnt announce it right. MS's first priority is its OS and the its future. They know the future isn't desktop PCs so they must get out ahead of it. Luckily for them Google and Apple have basically failed at getting ahold of the livingroom market. MS has a huge unstall base with the xb ox and must go the direction they r going.

That being said, they should have used the initial announcement to assauge the fear that theor core base has. They should hav started and ended with games...tech bwing the middle content. And they should hav answered more questions. Once they took care of the base, then they can move forward and begin to market to everyone else. Instead, they left an overall negative feeling with those that saw the reveal and the word spreads. They did it backwards.

I will buy a ps4 initially but will probably buy an xbox one at some point afterwards. Its too early as most reveal will be at e3 for both but I believe that the xbox one will be fine and I believe that there is room for both.

You know it may be true, Microsoft chose the name XBOX from the beginning, they were aiming for this moment and future, the "X" and "BOX": "X" in mathematics means a variable and can be anything and you can put anything in a "BOX". Now the "BOX"is a DVR and a TV Tuner and the "X" is your voice that changes with every user. Sony main focus was/is/will be always about gaming first hence the name "PLAY" + "STATION". What first comes in mind when you hear the world "PLAY" is playing, games of course, but further investigations can lead to find that the word "PLAY" can be accomplice to playing music, movies, videos or any other media. Without forgetting that a "STATION" is very BIG compared to a "BOX": a station can be a radio station, TV station, train station, military station, gas station, magazine station, work station... anything that everybody uses and goes to in his all day life. So a "STATION" is something NECESSARY in one's life because have you ever seen someone going to any "STATION" bringing a huge "BOX" with him? Also, as far as I know, in psychology, the majority of people have tendency to get affection for the word "PLAY" rather than the exhausting "X" in mathematics.

Correction the box is NOT a DVR and it is NOT a tuner. This means that you have to waste power and space with your existing cable box (you know the tuner and the DVR). The only thing the Xbox does is change the channels from the HDMI in.

In other words it is USELESS as a cable/sat box.

That's why I've started calling it a set top box accessory since it doesn't do much on it's own.

So Microsoft's real competition is companies like Cisco, Motorola etc. that already make set top boxes with much of the same functionality.

The cable companies have no interest in someone like Microsoft, Google or Apple co-opting their networks so expect the STBs to continue to add features over the coming years.

XB1 isn't doing that, it's a glorified voice activated universal remote, smartphones essentially gave us computers in our hands.

The XBone doesn't even function as a DVR or a TV tuner. In other words all it functions as is a pass through channel changer with an online program guide (break out the kazoos). So in other words they FAILED at producing a Tuner/DVR AND a games console.

Okay, fair enough. But tell me how XBOX ONE is lessening gaming capabilities to compromise for its other endeavors. And no, don't mention used game licensing or RAM differences VS a PS4.

The fact is, we haven't seen games yet. Or at least, no longform gameplay. MICROSOFT TOLD US THAT WE WOULDN'T BE SEEING MOST OF THE GANES UNTIL E3. That last sentence is in all caps because everybody is forgetting that simple fact, whether willfully or otherwise.

Tvs are pushing smart tv functions too much, I feel that xb1 cannot compete with that in the long run, each year the market will be more saturated with tvs that feature these services built in. Still around and selling but not like when it was a revolutionary product.

Furthermore, the Xbox One does solve a major problem with current cable boxes and that is finding what I want with it.

It's painfully slow to find what I want on their slow @ss cable box with the pretty confusingly labeled remote.

Just like when Xbox Live launched, you could play online on PC with voice hat, but Xbox Live brought it together and we know what happened.

This is a similar attempt at transforming your living room experience and there is some serious technology behind this to make it happen.

I think the era of high performance gaming consoles only is bygone and the Wii U is an example of this.

An iPhone isn't a dedicated gaming device, yet there probably more people gaming on it than the PS Vita.

Heck, I'm finding children of parents I know aren't asking for a Nintendo 3DS or a PS Vita, they are asking for an iPad!

I think the long term, Sony will try to follow as best they can the path MS is laying granting their hardware can keep up.

This central entertainment hub approach is an antiquated notion., families don't sit and watch TV together, they may watch a movie together once in a while but pretty much everyone had access to their own screen to watch what they want. Even my 3 year old can work netlixs on the wii.

People watch tv with smart phones in hand and tablets on laps for all their social media needs.

Xbox one bring nothing new to the table, it just bottle necks it in one box for the family to fight over.

On top of that a lot of people already have them, so X1 is now competing not just against Sony/Nintendo in games, but Apple/Google/Sony in TV, Apple/Samsung/HTC/Sony/Etc in smart devices, many various TV providers who already have smart functions built in and working on their TV's(some of which also offer gaming), AND every cable company who tacks these things on as added services to make a few extra bucks.

For all that entertainment stuff people have cimputers, laptops, smartphones, tablets and, btw MS, looks like you forgot about this one, smart TVs.

MS even said (paraphrasing here) that the TV is the centre of the living room. And if a smart TV in the future can do all that stuff from apps to internet to skype and all that, why would I need another huge box for the same stuff. However the PS4 is an amazing edition to the living room because of the focus on gaming. But if the thing that the Xbox One can do best is also done by a smart TV, why would I even consider to buy an Xbox?!

Well, I'm on here for quite some time now and used to be a long time lurker before and after I made an account and I've seen many dramas and funny stuff come and go here. But seriously, even after horrible E3 press conferences and console releases and games that were shown I hvae never seen anything like this. Not on here, not on pretty much any other gaming website or any social media website (about something in the gaming industry).

I don't think people are grasping this correctly. Xbox is and always will be a gaming console. And now a more powerful one. These features that have been added overtime throughout the Xbox 360 lifespan and now the One are added features to make life easier. They are put in place so you have a choice and to make things easier. Either use them or don't. Just like you aren't forced to arm your car alarm. Some people don't want to buy a smart T.V. just to watch Netflix. Some people don't like to sit at a computer to watch Netflix. People that already have Xbox Live don't want to pay to rent their Comcast Box every month when they can get it along with their Xbox subscription. The Xbox Reveal Is called the Xbox Reveal and not the Reveal of Games for Xbox One because it was to reveal the Xbox One and its new features and capabilities. Please feel free to live in the dark ages along with the other consoles that have come and gone(Not that they are bad consoles). Then again its your choice. Plus right at this point, as a gamer the Xbox One has failed to deliver to gamers. Its cool what it can do and all. But I'm not going to buy a Xbox One for tv, I buy it for the games and thats what the lack at showing. At least Sony has shown whats coming to PS4.

I will end up owning both, I own PS3 and 360 right now (well I got the old 256mb 360 model that has the three red rings but it works). For those that wonder, I have the PS3 Slim 320GB model (with hard drive replace with a 1TB one). Thats another think I hope the Xbox One supports, being able to change hard drives to what ever you want/need.

The used games block until you pay is something I hate about the Xbox One, but it isn't something that would stop me from getting it. I rarely buy used games and when I do is a old game that even if they wanted me to pay full price for on XBL. It most likely won't be over $20 bucks.

Yea I've seen the increase in sales for the Wii U since the MS reveal conference , but I don't see Nintendo as a threat to the Sony and the PS4 because a lot of 3rd party developers are skipping out on developing their games on the Wii U . I don't think Nintendo is done yet but at the same time it's not looking good for Nintendo because first party games are barely being developed for the Wii U , it's bad when 3rd party developers don't want to develop games for your system because there are more multiplat games than exclusives so Nintendo needs more 3rd party support or their done

Microsoft is going to have 29 exclusive titles at launch which are going to be great games as good or better than ps4 but on top of that you can do cloud gaming which is the future whether you like it or not and you can watch TV surf web basically everything you do on PC which is the best gameing console. But do me a favor sign on Xbox and check out how many of you friends are watching Netflix or HBO go etc. I bet there are a lot. Not to piss on your cornflakes, but Microsoft said "15 exclusive titles within the first year", that is a million miles away from "15 titles at launch", it means "from the date the console is on store shelves to a year later, we hope to release 15 exclusives"

Secondly, despite not actually knowing what most of these 15 games which (just to cement the idea in to your head) won't actually be out at launch, you feel in a position to say whether or not they'll be "just as good" or "better" than PS4 games, again, most of which neither you nor anyone else truly knows will or will not be out at launch.

Although i disagree with the idea, i buy a console because i want to play games, the article does raise the point about technological evolution. The most obvious comparison is the mobile phone. What with gaming , texting, tweeting and taking photos, i would say the thing i do least with my phone is acutally call anyone. I know everybody is different but im just saying that, at its most basic, a mobile is built to make phone calls and yet it abilities are so far beyond that making calls are not it's biggest use.

Not even going to waste my time reading this article but just from what the top shows and comments, consoles are basically becoming PC's? What Xbox one can do, I can do with my PC for most of what they showed, hell even my Smart TV can do some. I have an HDMI to my TV and Audio to my receiver, I want to surf the web while watching TV, yup I can do that, toggle between things, yup. of I can also run multiple displays to, 1080P on a movie and second monitor to do anything else. It's cool it can do this but I have yet to be convinced why spend $400 or so for a XB1.

Consoles have always been about gaming since the days of the NES and Sega Genesis.
