Nintendo Announces E3 Nintendo Direct

@abzdine 2 reasons-it'd be cheaper to do a direct...it probably cost oodles of cash to hold the stage at E3 and for what I'm sure is a fraction of what they'd pay for that stage appearance they can have a conference that is more availible to everyone that isnt really about E3 which leads to reason 2 which is that MS and PS both have new consoles they're showing off...Nintendo did this already and it is a faltering system with less impressive features and graphics. These new consoles would eclipse them at the show

Nintendo is HOPEFULLY going to focus on their games. Everyone knows there is a new SMash Bros, Mariokart and 3D mario coming to the Wii U and there is much speculation about an HD Zelda as well..hopefully some Star Fox, Metroid and Kid Icarus will get up in dat too. Nintendo has awesome franchises but they're showing them in a new way in the coming weeks.

You know what - this is actually brilliant on Nintendo's part. They don't have to fight for a major conference window, and they'll continue to deliver their news in a manner already established for their consumers.

So long as the news is worthwhile, kudos to you Nintendo. Now please announce a new Metroid/EarthBound/Zelda/Star Fox. Just a thought.

You're missing the point.

The problem with Nintendo abandoning E3 has nothing to do with Nintendo consumers. It has to do with people who are -not- Nintendo consumers.

People already know about Nintendo, and the chances of gaining a new customer based on an E3 event - where Nintendo has always struggled - is very slim. In this manner, they control their message, deliver on their own time, and attract a global audience. It's still a major presentation, but under their own terms and without the potential theatrical, bombastic, and useless trappings a major reveal would otherwise necessitate.

To be clear - they haven't abandoned E3. They'll be there with a large presence. It's just now more about their own vision rather than a manufactured demonstration.

Weren't they going to have one right before E3 too? Or is that the one we just got? I thought they were doing it like they did last year were they had one the day before the main event. Or are they just announcing this as the main event...but will still have a pre-Nintendo direct? Bleh whatever, as long as we get the hype and announcements for the new games that's all I need, lol.

This is it. This is the only E3 event they are having this year instead of the huge stage one that they usually have.

I can't wait to see what games I'll be playing on my Wii U soon.

Well from what I heard, they're having multiple Nintendo Directs to take place of one huge conference. That's what I got from it at least.

Simok, I believe they are having one meeting for investors where they give all the sales and numbers to everyone and then they are having the Nintendo Direct for the gamers. It's kind of nice because I always hate how the first 30 or 45 mins are just sales and numbers for investors.

I'm so excited for E3, and this news just makes everything sweeter. The fact that so many games are going to be shown off just impresses me and makes me happy.

Doing their own stuff on their own time means they dont have to squeeze everything into 1-3 hours of stage time... Building the stage and paying for show floor space on top of TV coverage prolly costs an enormous amount of money...

Also the amount of rehearsal and worrying if the games will operate properly on stage is a big thing as well. They will be able to shoot and re shoot their Directs and not have to stress as much.

For the user at home we wont see any difference what so ever.. Nintendo Direct schedule will be published online and hosted on several gaming blogs and distributed to masses online. The press and analysts at the event will be able to do exactly what they did at the large stage in a smaller more confined setting. The smaller private conferences will allow the press and analysts to play test everything without a massive amount of lines generated from general spectators on the main floors... and also they will be able to ask more questions and have Nintendos undivided attention.

Also this will allow Reggie and company to be in several places at once... The press at the event will have their coverage and their online counterparts will broadcast their parts.. it will be a massive amount of coverage that Nintendo will piece together over the duration of E3.. To me I dont see any negatives other than the perception of SOME of the public that "Nintendo is scared of the other 2 console makers so they aren't having a conference"...

Again they will have TWO confirmed stage show similar to their Wii U media day event when they showed the bayonetta exclusive and price.. At E3 it just wont be open to the entire show floor... Media, Press, and Analysts are going to have access to it regardless and have the same experience they would have had with a large stage.

Nintendo haters moan and dis nintendo directs but u know what i bet sony and microsoft do the same thing next year just remember people nintendo are always first to do anything and everyone copies them.To be fair to sony what ive seen on ps4 it looks impressive and they have got there cross play with the vita sorted so nintendo really needs to watch out for sony this time.As for xbox done thats finished before its even started ive got a samsung tv that does everything that xbox does ie facial recognition,voice activated and motion controlls,so ive nintendo deliver with the games its a race between ps4 &wii u with xbox1 back at the starting line .
