CONFIRMED: 2 Days 2 Vegas is coming to PS3, Xbox 360, and PC

"We have added that 2 Days 2 Vegas will appear on the Xbox 360. We have talked with Steel Monkey and it's confirmed that the title will release on both PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as PC. More details on that on Monday."

Even though PSU never said it was a PS3 exclusive, it seemed that everyone took it that way. Just so there is no miscommunication, I have updated the article and talked with the developers to confirm things for us. Turns out that 2 Days 2 Vegas will appear on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Sorry if you were misled. Last time we talked with Steel Monkey, they hadn't decided on platforms other than PC, and Edwin told us that the PS3 was the best prospect. Anyways, I guess now everyone will be able to enjoy the game except Wii owners.

The 360 can easily handle any game that started life on the ps3...for example, Burnout 2, and Devil May Cry are all pretty much equal to the ps3 version and others like Virtual Fighter 5 beat the ps3s version in every way. Unfortunately the ps3 has a hard time handling a port from the 360.....Orange Box, Lost Planet, and Madden for example.

I do and I have played both versions for both systems. There are some differences without question but I would not say either is clearly better then the other overall. Some things I like better on the 360 some on the PS3. But I'm not a over zealous fanboy looking to throw fuel on a fire just to blaze the flames and I can actually give an honest opinion unlike you and so many others that post on N4G.

PC games are INSTALLED in your HDD, PC games come with compressed installation container or cabinets what ever you wanna call them that during installation are un packed to your computer and specially in todays games fully installed games are usually bigger than the game DVD and after installation no longer need the DVD to be played

360 games don't do that, all the magic HAS to be done directly from the DVD

So when someone assumes something about that is wrong I correct them. Telling me to research something that I have about 13 years of knowledge and experience.

Now this entire game PC/PS3 will be crippled to run on the 360. I'm sorry but thats just the way it is.

Heres to The Getaway. This one is done with. After all of those comments about Bluray and not being able to do it on DVD.. they compromise everything to truncate and compress data to hell to run on the 360. YEah it sells well, but its a bottleneck for development. I'm in it for the greater games, as I dont get a dime from Sony or MS. The problem with all 360 PC games is that you can run them fine on a rather old pc. Oh well.

L.A. Noire is published by Sony. You guys didn't know that? One of the devs said himself that the L.A. Noire project was being funded, and of course, published by Sony themselves. That one's in the bag. Along with Rockstar's mysterious franchise which they have yet to announce any info on. But for 2D2V's sake, I'm willing to wait till Monday to see some new screens. And then Tuesday to see the tech demos. No PS3 owner in the right mind should count this one out yet. I have a feeling this game will have a lot of attention surrounding it after this week.

Heavenly Sword and Warhawk are amazing games. HS only got crap for being short, and that is actually a compliment. When I beat it after roughly 7-8 hours (over a period of time), I felt deprived. I WANTED MORE! Because it was that f'n good of a game. And I don't know where you're getting at with Warhawk. That game is insane. I'm not even gonna go anywhere else with that cause you called out the wrong game there bud. As for Lair, it was a fine game. The only thing wrong about it is that the developers screwed over anyone who wouldn't give the motion sensing a chance. I know a lot of people who play Warhawk without motion sensing (which, btw, the motion sensing is incredible. i use it everytime). The only difference is that Warhawk had the option to not use it. Lair doesn't. Which = many angry gamers. I think you need to settle down. I don't know if it's a rough childhood you've had or what, but you are taking your anger (jealousy?) out on the wrong people.

The cell and Bluray has nothing to do with Gameplay. If Gameplay sucks, its the developers fault. If heavenly sword didnt take 20 gigs, it wouldnt have the same quality it has.
If Uncharted wasnt an Exclusive it wouldve looked like sh!t. Super mario bros has a very good gameplay but it doesnt need Blu ray or the cell.

People are also confusing this because the game has "DAYS" in the name like Eight Days, which is PS3 exclusive.

Regarding the DVD yada yada.. the fact is that in most of those games most of the textures and even objects are or procedurally generated or simply repeated .. you don't make a whole city with unique textures because it's both stupid and expensive... you bring uniqueness with dynamic generation that is smart and cheap.

The more advanced the game is, the smaller it gets.. the more "artistic" it is .. the larger it gets.

From the article earlier it stated Blu-Ray was the way to go. But if this game gets all compressed to hell and back, I'm going to be highly disappointed. If they are able to pull off the visuals from the released screen shots on multiple disks, maybe all is not lost. This game is visually superior to GTA4, I just hope the storyline will complete it and make it the total gaming experience the game has the potential to be.

Good news for gaming in general. I understand that people want to games to stay exclusive for their respective systems. but this game was never claimed to be an exclusive. For all of you who are putting MS down for this, why? Blame the dev for this not MS. But remember devs are out to make money, so you really can't blame anyone. MS is insuring that people who buy there system get quality games, theres nothing wrong with that. People need to get used to good games going multi platform on both sides (360 and Xbox). There is just too much money for developers to make going multi platform. Another thing is that developers are going to make a game that sells and makes them maximum profit and right now turning away from the 360 is not very smart finacially. i bet nearly 50% of ps3's sold were as bluray players first and game consoles second. look at uncharted it ps3's best title didnt make top 10 sales in december. if a game will sell 500k on ps3 it will sell 1mil+ on 360. ms doesnt throw money at devs to get games they just tell them games sell on our system if you want to actually see profit make it for ours too and they will. if anything 360 is keeping this gen alive because its the only way dev companies can turn a profit.

Wow is this site filled with idiocy. To the first posts.. The reason 360 ports to PS3 are better on 360 is the game is made on the 360 architecture. All of the 360's graphics processing is on the GPU, while the PS3 uses both the CELL and RSX. The RSX is barely used. And, yes, the 360's GPU is more powerful than the PS3's. Only by a fraction though. Oh, but the CELL and RSX together makes it 2x as powerful(probably more).

About the people complaining about disk space. Google the game ".debris" its in kilobyte size and yet it has graphics that could rival early PS3 and 360 games(That, or just a few steps above Wii). It's not that big of a game, but my point is that "size matters not!" Yes, Blu Ray is DEFINITELY important. DVD9 was in the 360 so that it could be more affordable, and M$ wants to get rid of the whole format war so they can let in digital distribution(which wont happen for awhile).

The reason why the 360 did not lunch with a next gen storage medium was because HD-DVD and BLUE-RAY had not been finalized.For the 360 to have had one would have resulted in a delayed lunch and a much higher retail price than it had at lunch, which would have had a big impact on sales.

Were Microsoft messed up was the lack of a standard hard drive for all 360's but you cant really blame them that much because the original XBOX had few games that utilized that feature.But as games become more complex a standard hard drive would be better,so i pray they scrap the Arcade skew soon since its only around 10percent of 360 owners that own onw without a hard drive.

As for the closeness in price between the 360 and PS3.You know that Sony is making alot of losses from the PS3 were as Microsoft is making money from every hardware sold.When the PS3 becomes to much of a threat then expect a price drop that would put them back into a loss.

the price thing was was talking about was the price consumers have to pay not what sony loses but your right about the standard hdd. Bigger storage should of been part of any self proclaimed next gen consoles design not an afterthought. MS proved that the little step up from the ps2's dvd to their original xbox's dvd9 that a jump up in media size was not only expensive and questioned but ultimately justified. On that occasion they thought ahead. Compression tricks and what not can only do so much.

It does provide a challenge to devs and everybody likes a challenge (except that Gabe Newell dude) but I honestly feel that this gen would have been better had the other next gen machine had both standard hdd and any form of larger media. Im at the point where i can see that devs, who are all here to make profit, would lessen their creations in order to make sure the games could fit on a 8+ year old media. Thats their prerogative to be fair but it doesn't mean that ps3 owners shouldnt speculate on what could possibly a factor that may be holding back multi platform games (without flame)

Oblivion was released on 360 first, and had no problems fitting on a dual-layer DVD. Many of the other titles you mentioned are also multi-platform.

I'm just saying the "Blu-ray makes for bigger and longer games" hype is bullsh!t. Oblivion is the only game to date that matches the sheer size, detail(not really, but it still looks good) and length of Mass Effect, and Oblivion a multi-title.

I think 2 days to Vegas will be great, and in no way "gimped" by the 360. There is no proof of that happening. On the contrary, the PS3 versions of games are usually the ones that get released months after the 360 versions. If anything, 2 days to Vegas will be delayed because of the PS3.

360 has the same amount of RAM. And the PS3 can be just as good as a high end PC(one able to run crysis on full detail) if programmed properly. The cell is both a processor and a graphics card. Combine the cell and the RSX's 256mb RAM of memory and you'd probably have yourself atleast a gig(if not more). Also, I can't explain how, but consoles do act differently than PC's. Sure it's the same hardware-style as the PC, with the motherboard, RAM, processor... etc. But somehow it's just... different. Look at Uncharted for example. Look at KZ2, MGS4 etc.

was still looking for a publisher. Since they basically are independent, it makes a lot more sense to create a multi platform title in order to ensure financial stability; no reason to hate on them for going from perceived PS3 exclusivity to supporting 360 and PC as well.

It could be that they're limiting themselves to a single DVD worth of data, but sandbox games actually can be spread across multiple discs so long as event and cinematic data are structured fairly linearly and that the entire game world can be repeated on each disc with enough room left for said event and cinematic data. I'll actually be impressed if they put this game on two or three DVDs instead of one, since that's a pretty ballsy move; the quality would probably be identical across all platforms, yet still let the story play out the way it was intended.

i wasn't very interested in this game to begin with (i actually forgot about it until i came across the article here the other day), but it sounded pretty interesting.

personally, i prefer my games built with *ONE console in mind (whether 360 or PS3; doesn't matter), because i genuinely feel that when a developer focuses on one console, the results are *INFINITELY better (see Bioshock and Uncharted).

*HOWEVER, i do feel that the Playstation 3 has an advantage, especially when it comes to open world, sandbox games, because of the extra storage capacity of Blu Ray, and a hard drive included *STANDARD across all Playstation 3 models.

the developers of 2 Days to Vegas *THEMSELVES have said that, if the game were to be made for the X Box 360 also, some parts of the game would have to be cut, or (and this is murder for open world, "seamless" sandbox games) put on multiple discs. i'm sorry, but that's not a good thing any way you slice it.

the reason why a game like Crysis is only on a DVD, is because those files are all *COMPRESSED, or zipped, then stored on the DVD. when the game is installed, it takes up 12, yes, *TWELVE gigs of Hard Drive space. you have the disc in the drive, just for authentication purposes, not because the game is actually reading anything off of the disc.

the 360 doesn't unzip any files when reading a game on the DVD, it's reading whatever data is on that disc. with a hard drive, however, it would be able to either cache certain data for a smoother experience, or outright download it to the HDD for the same result. so, if Crysis were to come to the 360, it would have to do a few things.

1.) *REQUIRE the hard drive for caching

or
2.) Get it's game data compressed to the point where it will fit on 7.5gigs (the size of a 360 DVD). they'd have to compress 4.5 gigs of data in order to get Crysis to fit on the 360 DVD standard. that compression could be *ANYTHING. maybe the graphics take a hit, maybe some features or levels get removed, maybe the audio quality gets lowered a peg. *SOMETHING would have to be compromised in some way to make it *FIT. if the game required an HDD, there wouldn't be that problem, but those unfortunate gamers who only own a Core or Arcade would be left out.

with the Playstation 3, however, the developer, honestly, has more options. regardless of how difficult the Cell is to work with, that is a hurdle that can be overcome with time. disc capacity and storage is *NOT a problem with the Playstation 3.

Crysis would fit comfortably on a Blu Ray disc, and *STILL have room for some nice extra features and bonuses (Uncharted takes up roughly 22 gigs of the Blu Ray disc, but is all packed with cool extra features like behind the scenes featurettes, concept art, and interviews, etc). the developers wouldn't have to compress *ANYTHING to get it to fit. so no loss in graphical quality (within the limits of the console, of course), audio fidelity, and levels or features wouldn't have to be cut, because there is *ROOM. *WHY, then, in god's name do people look at that as a *BAD THING??

i'm not a programmer, but i've been following the Cell for a while now, and what i've gathered, is that you can do some impressive stuff with it, especially when it's *COMBINED with the RSX.

first things first: games are simply a series of numbers being crunched by the computer. AI? numbers. graphics? numbers. physics? numbers. it's all numbers. the Cell processor, even by itself, is *EXCELLENT at crunching numbers (just look at it's Folding @ Home output over the past year). if video games are numbers, and the Cell is very good at crunching said numbers, it's reasonable to ascertain that the Cell is very good at running video games (developer talent notwithstanding).

next up, the Cell is made up of a PPE, and 8 processors. one processor is reserved for the OS of the Playstation 3, and another processor is disabled to increase yields. this leaves 6 SPEs for the PS3 to utilize for games.

the PPE is responsible for running the OS, resource management, and input/output of commands. the SPEs are responsible for data processing tasks. basically, the PPE is the boss, and SPEs are his employees. they do what it tells them to do.

the cool thing about those 6 SPEs in the Cell, is that they can run code independently from one another. the PPE can dictate tasks that each SPE can run, *SIMULTANEOUSLY. so the SPEs can all crunch a bunch of numbers at the same time.

what developers have learned, is that they can move things like AI routines (numbers), physics (more numbers), lighting calculations (yup, numbers), and even texture data (still numbers), from the SPEs, without even breaking a sweat, and touching the RSX, leaving the RSX, and it's 256MB of RAM to handle *OTHER tasks, not to mention that there are still available SPE's to use to run other tasks (like more physics, AI routines, lighting calculations, and texture data).

it's not as easy and simple as it sounds, because it requires new coding techniques and languages, that have to be optimized so that the PPE knows what tasks to dictate to the SPEs, and at when they should be fired off. getting a handle on how the PPE talks to the SPEs, and how to get that working in conjunction with the RSX's capabilities are what have been causing so many developers so many headaches.

when that language is understood, however, we get games like Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank Future (and Killzone 2 and Resistance 2). when that language is *NOT understand, we get sh*tty ports like what EA and Activision have been crapping out lately, and many early PS3 games.

it's Sony's job to educate the developers on how best to work with the Cell, and that is one of Sony's biggest problems, *HOWEVER, they have made excellent strides in that area, what with the "Playstation Edge" tools they showed off at last years GDC. unfortunately for many of the games released last year, they were too far along in development to make much use of those tools. but as you can see from a lot of the games being released *THIS year, and especially the PS3 exclusives, there is a *SIGNIFICANT jump in quality, especially visually, from last years offerings. also, last year, a lot of games were using Unreal Engine 3, which had *NOT been optimized for the Cell. as a result, most of the Unreal Engine PS3 games released last year looked significantly different than UE3 games running on the 360, and were often delayed. with the release of Unreal Tournament 3 on the Playstation 3, however, it's obvious that Epic has finally optimized the engine for the PS3, and the many Unreal Engine 3 developed games will benefit from this.

as more and more developers learn the ins and outs of the Cell, the better PS3 games will become, and developers will then turn their attention on how *BEST to fill up all that storage capacity on a Blu Ray. you have to crawl before you walk. what would be the point of filling up a Blu Ray with a bare-bones knowledge of what the PS3 can do?

you're diluding yourselves into thinking that PS3 games will be "short" forever. developers *ALWAYS find a way to extend gameplay, and fill up storage.

remember, early Playstation 2 games were on *CDs, then single layer DVDs about a year and half into the PS2's lifecycle, and by the end of the PS2s lifecycle (i know, it's still going strong, but bear with me here), developers have been filling up a *DUAL LAYER, 9 gig DVD. if God of War 2 on the Playstation 2 was taking up a dual layer disc, and *STILL needed a *SECOND disc for extra features, what do you *THINK God of War 3 on the Playstation 3 is going to take up? seriously now, people.

the 360 is *NOT a crappy system (if i thought that, why the hell do i have one hooked up to my TV?), but it *IS limited in what the scope of it's games can be until MS makes the hard drive a *REQUIREMENT. certain types of multi-platform games *WILL begin to suffer eventually because of the DVD"9" (7.5 gigs, remember? 1.5 is reserved for 360 formatting or something like that), and Microsoft's refusal to allow developers to require the HDD in their games. not *ALL games will suffer, of course, but i think some upcoming games that are very *GRAND and ambitious in scope could be hindered in some way (ie, what the 2 Days to Vegas developers were implying when they said they might have to cut some features, or put the game on multiple discs for the 360). i don't *WANT that to happen, but it almost seems like it's inevitable by years end, and most certainly in 2009 and beyond, and i don't think 360 owners should have to pony up the dough *AGAIN, if MS decides to release a system with all of these "future proof" technologies built in. X Box owners were already burned before, when MS unceremoniously dropped the X Box after 4 years, i don't want them to drop the 360 too (i was one of those burned X Box owners).

they know what they have to do (make the hard drive a requirement), but i don't see why they're so reluctant to push it.

Truth be told, if the PS3 is the powerful future proof system that it is on paper, then how come it has yet to prove itself?? How come the original Xbox came out kicking PS2 asz from DAY 1 on EVERY multi-plat game, and then there were games that simply could not be done on ps2 like Doom 3, Far Cry and half Life 2??? I wonder if there were PS2 fanboys on websites back then looking for excuses.

I've had my 360 since 2005... and to date, the BEST games are found on the 360, whether the are the AAA exclusives or multi that look and/or play better...and PSN sucks when compared to LIVE.

And 2008 looks great for both systems, so hopefully for people that paid the big bucks to blindly support PS3 in hopes of acheiving great games that can't be done on any other system, I guess we'll see if you can squeeze one or two games this generation that truly amaze that proved the hard drive and blu-ray was absolutely necessary.

until then, there are TOO MANY great games coming out on 360 that I'm looking forward to this year.... and my hopes is that the new xbox 720 comes out xmas 2009. Because as far as this GEN is concerned Xbox proved you do not need a hard drive or blu-ray.......yet.

the reason why the "all powerful Playstation 3" has yet to surpass the 360, is the same reason why Dark Cloud on the Playstation 2 looks *NOTHING like Rogue Galaxy on the Playstation 2: the developers haven't yet figured out how the machine works.

my point, is that developers have to *LEARN the hardware in order to output stellar results. my above example shows what Level 5 was capable of doing with the Playstation 2 when it first launched in 2000 with Dark Cloud, 2 years later in 2002 with Dark Cloud 2, when they got a handle on the PS2 architecture, and finally Rogue Galaxy in 2007, after having practically mastered the architecture of the PS2.

big difference, huh? (and not just in style, but technical prowess).

remember, the Playstation 3 hasn't been out as long as the X Box 360 (360 has been out 2 years, the Playstation 3, 1), not to mention that the 360 architecture isn't nearly as complicated as the PS3 architecture, with the upside being that games are easy to develop for the 360, and the downside being that, because of that ease of development, developers aren't really being taxed or challenged to think out of the box and go beyond the impressive results they are seeing.

Playstation 3 development is the opposite; the architecture is complicated, so it's harder to develop more, but the upside is that that challenges developers, and shakes them out of complacency and apathy, and they are able to find new techniques and ways to think about programming. the 360 and PS3 both use multi-core processors, which is not easy, but the 360 has 3 cores, and the Playstation 3 has the Cell, with it's PPE and 8 SPEs (processors that run independently of one another).

to put it simply, programming for the 6 available SPEs in the Cell is a *DAUNTING task, but the rewards are quite numerous, and once the groundwork is laid, fantastic results can be done (ie, look at Resistance, when Insomniac was learning the ropes on the PS3, then look at Ratchet and Clank, after they got their ears wet and learned a few things).

if you ask me, i think games like Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank Future have already visually surpassed what the 360 can do, but both systems still have quite a few tricks up their sleeves. i think the PS3 edges the 360 out, but for the time being, as PS3 developers learn how to utilize the Cell and RSX in conjunction, most PS3 and 360 games will continue to look on par with each other, *ESPECIALLY multi-platform games, where the developers focus is *NOT on pushing each platform and their individual strengths, but getting the game to run the same on both platforms.

multi-platform games are *NOT the best way to compare consoles. period. exclusives are. that's where you'll find the developers really going to town on maxing out the console's potential.

i mean, look at Burnout Paradise. gorgeous on both platforms, right? yes.

but then look at Gran Turismo 5 on the Playstation 3. a game built from the ground up on the Playstation 3. despite how amazing Burnout Paradise is (and i love that game), visually, Gran Turismo is it's superior.

the same can be said for a 360 game like Forza or PGR; they were built from the ground up for the 360, and it shows.

about your other comments, i have a question:

do you *OWN a Playstation 3? and if you don't have you played it for longer than 5 minutes? at least 30 minutes or more tops?

i ask this, because i vehemently disagree with your statements about game quality.

yes, Gears of War is a great game (not my cup of tea, but it is good nonetheless). Gears of War is a shooter.

yes, Bioshock is a great game (one of my picks for game of the year, actually). it is also a shooter/rpg hybrid.

yes, Mass Effect is a great game (i have my complaints about it, but it's Bioware, and the world they created is good). it is also a shooter/rpg hybrid.

yes, Halo 3 has good multiplayer (i'm not a fan of the single player campaign).

*HOWEVER, outside of those four highly praised 360 titles released since 2005, *WHAT ELSE does the 360 have that so outshines what the Playstation 3 offered in it's *FIRST YEAR?

Resistance had a great single player campaign, and *FANTASTIC online (which also addresses your exclamation that the PSN "sucks"). it's hard to argue with *FREE 40 player online, no lag, voice chat, in game messaging, etc. just because the game didn't look like Gears of War doesn't mean that the game is bad. the gameplay is where it counts, and it is quite good.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma was another great game released during the Playstation 3's first year. it was great on the X Box, and it was better on the PS3. you got to play as Rachel, had 1080p graphics at 60 frames per second, and it included all of the content that was in hurricane packs and Ninja Gaiden Black on the X Box. not to mention that there was also *EXTRA downloadable packs afterwards.

Motorstorm is a great off road racer. with excellent online gaming, and lots of downloadable content via PSN.

Heavenly Sword gets a lot of flack...for being *SHORT. not for being a sh*tty game. if the game was so awful, no one would have complained about it being so short. personally, i beat it in about 8 hours, then sunk another 9 or 10 hours into it unlocking everything. in short; i got my money's worth. especially when a game like Bioshock, which is about 10 hours long, gets no mention of it's length and lack of Multi-player, but many quality PS3 games *DO, and they get demerited for it.

Folklore is a great action/rgp, with superb music, gorgeous, creative visuals, excellent, yet subtle use of the Sixaxis, and addictive gameplay. the story is interesting, and it's quite different from your standard "lets save the world with the aid of a magical princess" plot you get in most Japanese rpgs. as an early JRPG for the PS3, i was quite pleased, but i think it'll still be worth a look at the end of *THIS year, even with games like White Knight Story and Final Fantasy XIII hitting.

Warhawk is, hands down, one of the best, if not *THE best, online multiplayer game on the Playstation 3 at the moment. UT3 is good (and i'll get to that later), but Warhawk is the game that *CONVERTED me to multiplayer gaming. it's incredibly balanced, has great visuals, supports voice chat, and has a very strong online community (you can *ALWAYS find somebody playing that game). 32 player dogfights have got to be experienced first hand to appreciate how fun that is, as well as massive ground combat matches. no lag, too. it's the most fun i've had online with my Playstation 3. Resistance is great, but i think Warhawk is *BETTER.

Ratchet and Clank Future - in short; this game is beautiful, funny, and fun to play. the Pixar comparison gets thrown about often, and while i don't think it's quite up to *THAT level, it is as close to a CG cartoon i've *SEEN on *ANY console. the humor is certainly Pixar, in that it appeals to adults, but has humor for the kids also. the story is also interesting and entertaining. the gameplay is full of variety, and it's hard to stop playing once you start, just so you can see what next exotic (and awesome) planet you come across next. the game also has Skill Points, which have been in the series since practically *FOREVER, and are basically like Achievements (as a note, Resistance and Warhawk *ALSO have their own version of Achievements/Skill Points).

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is arguably the best game released on the Playstation 3 so far. the graphics are truly mind-bogglingly gorgeous, and the demo doesn't even prepare you for how amazing the *FULL GAME truly is. the firefights are intense, the enemy AI is incredibly sharp (contrary to what certain media outlets would have you believe), and the story is presented damn near flawlessly. no, it's not perfect, but for a year one Playstation 3 title *AND Naughty Dog's first attempt at a PS3 game, it's phenomenal. the acting is great, humor is great, and you actually care about what happens to the characters. it's an Indiana Jones, popcorn flick. the comparisons to Tomb Raider, are also quite *WRONG, as it feels nothing like that series in the least (and i'm a huge Tomb Raider fan also). this is a must have title for the Playstation 3.

Unreal Tournament 3 - i'll keep this one short; it looks like Gears of War but has a faster speed. it has a lame story, but the gameplay is *GREAT. it's hectic, and fun. the game supports voice chat, *AND mouse and keyboard, so the PC elitist can't really complain about the game being "dumbed down" to fit a controller. speaking of the controller, it works perfectly fine, and that's how i play the game (though i do have the PC version also, mainly for mods). speaking of mods, the PS3 version supports the PC mods. i've downloaded over 30 pieces of content, from maps, to game types, to new character models (ie, Bender from Futurama). it's not without it's flaws in the modding aspect, but so far, most of the content cooked for the PS3 has worked without a hitch (new character models needs to fix the head issue). the mod support alone makes this game worth the price of admission.

don't believe everything you read from the internet, and sites like joystiq, kotaku, 1up, ign, and gamespot when it comes to the PS3. they're still riding off of a wave of Sony hate, and can't judge things clearly.

my advice is to get some actual, factual, hands on time with the Playstation 3, and you might be pleasantly surprised at how much fun you have with it. i was like that with the 360 early on, yet i gave it a shot, and i had a good time with it. i own one now to go along with my PS3. they are both very good at what they do, and the Playstation 3 is only *IMPROVING. issues have been addressed, and lingering issues are *BEING addressed. what the machine offers now, at this particular point in time, however, should not be dismissed.

and as for hard drive and Blu Ray support, games like Heavenly Sword, Ratchet, and Uncharted already take up over 16 gigs of space, and i have an HDTV, so i enjoy Blu Ray movies also.

there are *PLENTY of quality Playstation 3 titles hitting this year, which i think i listed most of them in my previous post, so i won't bother here, so my Playstation needs are met. the 360 also has some good games coming out this year also, so i'm covered either way.

you know, you don't have to put a system down just because you don't own it. if you don't like it because, say, it's unreliable, or doesn't have the games you want to play, that's understandable for the most part. but to hate a piece of machinery because someone *SAYS it's the "in" thing to do, without actually having tried it out for yourself is foolish.

take me for example:

i owned a Playstation 2. i liked what i saw of the Playstation 3. i liked what i played of the Playstation 3. so i bought a Playstation 3.

i played games like Gears of War, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Crackdown and Halo 3 on the 360. i liked most of them, so i bought my roommate's 360.

i played every major game released so far on the Wii, from Wii Sports, to Super Mario Galaxy, to Links Crossbow Training, and i've determined that the Wii, is *NOT for me. not even Smash Bros. will get me to cough up the dough for a Wii right now.

all my opinions, of course, but at least they are based off of *ACTUAL hands on with the machines, and not opinion pieces written on the net, or popular notions (ie, PS3 "has no games," "has sh*tty online," and "is just a Blu Ray player").

the reason why the X Box was better than the Playstation 2 was because it came out a year later and used more up to date technology (sound familiar?). also, not all multi-platform X Box games were better than their Playstation 2 counterparts in the only area where it really mattered *GAMEPLAY. some games just felt better on the PS2 controller than the X Box controller, graphics aside.

there are also quite a few multiplatform Playstation 3 and 360 games that are equal, and or *BETTER on the Playstation 3;

Fight Night Round 3 (benefited from better visuals)
Oblivion (slightly better visuals, faster load times thanks to HDD caching, less bugs, and better framerate)
Assassin's Creed (both versions are practically identical)
The Darkness (no discernable differences as far as i could tell; i played *BOTH versions)
GRAW 2 (360 version was, i think, visually sharper, but gameplay wise, they were exactly the same)

you're not basing your argument off of actual fact, but off of what you heard someone say over net, or in a Gamestop or EB. actual hand on with these titles illustrate that there are very few, if any, *REAL noticable differences between the PS3 and 360 version.

yes, there will always be the Orange Box and Splinter Cell type ports, but then again, there will also be Burnout Paradise ports, in which the Playstation 3 version is superior to the 360 version.

as developers learn the Playstation 3, expect the differences between PS3 and 360 games to become even less on multi-platforms. it's the exclusives where you'll begin to see the *REAL differences.

as i stated before, I have YET to see a game on PS3 that amazed me, and/or that proved you need blu-ray/hard drive... the fact that MGS4 is constantly rumored to be coming to 360 and most likely will at some point should be reason enough that even the PS3 FLAGSHIP title can be done on the 360. Up to date PS3 best game and best graphics is a multi on 360 (COD4)

on paper the CELL, Blu-Ray, Motion controller, Blu-tooth, and hard-drive were all steps in the right direction and i'm sure we might be seeing great games coming out in the future, like you stated "future proof"... but by the time those great games start coming out, Xbox 720 will be right around the corner will much better spec obviously.

Hideo Kojima never said that the Metal Gear Solid 4 engine couldn't run on the X Box 360.

what he *DID say, was that a 25gig Blu Ray would probably not be *ENOUGH for Metal Gear Solid 4, and was requesting a 50gig Blu Ray for Metal Gear Solid 4.

game engines have very little to do with disc capacity, but with the processing power of the machine. the 360 and Playstation 3 both have superb technical prowess, though i believe the Playstation 3, ultimately, has more processing power in the end.

Metal Gears, while always looking fantastic, have never actually been concerned with the visual details. Kojima himself even said that he doesn't really care for HD, as he prefers the "dirty", "grainy" look for his Metal Gear games.

he also said that, instead of retreading Metal Gear Solid on the X Box 360, he'd much rather create an *ENTIRELY NEW IP, built from the ground up. personally, as a Playstation 3 owner *AND an X Box 360 owner, i'd prefer Kojima to work on an all new 360 game, instead of just getting Metal Gear Solid 4 again. hell, let him make Snatcher for the 360, or another ZOE, anything but retreading Metal Gear Solid on the 360.

the truth of the matter, is that the last time a Metal Gear Solid was on an X Box console, it *BOMBED horribly. nobody bought it. personally, i think some of the 360 fanboys simply want MGS4 on the 360 to say, "HAW HAW, PS3 FANBOIS GOT PWNED AGAIN!" and not because they want to play the game.

i also don't think it'd be wise for Microsoft to once *AGAIN drop their current userbase by moving on to the "X Box 720." Microsoft has made it's bed concerning the 360, and they should, at the *LEAST, stick with it for 5 years or more.

we will see the benefits of Blu Ray in games *THIS YEAR. no doubt about that.

do you know that early Playstation 2 games were on CDs? that's right. games like Dark Cloud, Ico, Klonoa, etc, they were *ALL on CDs.

it wasn't until Grand Theft Auto 3, and coincidentally enough, Hideo Kojima and Metal Gear Solid 2, that we really *SAW the importance of DVDs, and what they could do for games. also, that was a *SINGLE LAYER DVD. even *LATER Playstation 2 games, made it necessary for Dual Layer DVDs to be used (ie, GTA: San Andreas, and God of War 2). third party developer may very well *NOT use up 25 gigs to make their games. but you know what? at least that *OPTION is there.

isn't that Microsoft's catchphrase this generation? it's all about "choice," and "options?" apparently not for the developers, who are already struggling with fitting games on DVD 7.5s.

you even have Team Ninja director Itagaki, who is insanely pro X Box saying that he wished Microsoft would have used a higher capacity disc for the 360.

limitations have their benefits, but i don't see the excessive loading, texture pop in, and repetitive environments of a game like Mass Effect as a benefit (for the record, i *LIKE Mass Effect, and it was the reason why i bought my roommate's 360, along with Bioshock).

If Naughty Dog can make a game that streams from the disc, *WITHOUT CACHING TO THE HARD DRIVE, and *ELIMINATE LOAD TIMES from Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, i don't see why that couldn't have been done on the 360. that's correct, after popping in Uncharted, and that initial load, there are *NO load times throughout the *ENTIRE GAME. and it *DOESN'T even need to cache to the hard drive! how is that *NOT impressive, and a testament to what truly talented developers can do when they aren't worrying about running out of space? instead of trying to figure out ways to compress data to fit on a DVD9, Naughty Dog spent that time learning how to stream data endlessly from the disc to eliminate load times.

Microsoft has imposed unnecessary limitations on their developers this generation. why didn't *ALL 360's come with a hard drive? the original X Box had a hard drive for Pete's sake! i could look past the lack of an HD storage medium if, at the *LEAST, there was a hard drive developers could utilize, but MS robbed them of *BOTH!

developers should have the option between using up all the capacity of a Blu Ray (or even an HD DVD, who's 30gig dual layer max would have been great for games also), than force them to conform to a size limit that's actually *SMALLER than what the X Box and Playstation 2 had last generation.

like so many people have said, it is always better to have too much, and not need, than have too little, and need.

the sooner MS admits to their short-sightededness, and takes steps to remedy it (ie, requiring the hard drive for the games that *NEED to cache in order to be presented in the best possible way), instead of stubbornly sticking to the mentality that "DVD is enough," when it was barely enough last gen, and is increasingly being a limiting factor to developers these days (ie, Rockstar and Team Bondi saying that LA Noire is not coming to the 360 because of disc limitations, and their next big franchise *ALSO being exclusive to the Playstation 3 because they want to push the Blu Ray and Cell capabilities of the PS3; look it up).
