"Former MS exec and Lionhead boss names Apple, Google and Samsung as real rivals next gen, rather than Sony and Nintendo." [OXM]
Project currently codenamed MOAT.
Imagine a game where Peter Molyneux presents an extraordinary set of ideas that players will enjoy for years to come. Now imagine that this particular game will come out because it will never exist.
One of the biggest reveals at this year's Xbox Games Showcase was the latest Fable trailer. After a lengthy stint of silence, Playground Games gave us a look at bits of the title, albeit in a trailer that was mostly made up of CGI nonsense headlined by comedian Richard Ayoade, who is playing a rather frustrated giant.
Molyneux asked about what he thought about the Fable reveal.
From GI.biz: "UK developer 22cans has suffered a round of redundancies, GamesIndustry.biz has learned.
The studio, founded by Fable creator Peter Molyneux, has laid off multiple employees, although an exact figure has not been disclosed.
A spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, due to a number of factors including projects reaching a certain stage in their development, we can confirm that a number of roles at 22cans have been made redundant."
Doesn’t that always happen with every studio lol? Contract workers for certain stages.
Seriously, what is Peter Molyneux up to these days? In his prime, he was the most famous western developer in the world. Now he's doing f all.
They're not actually layoffs, they're fantastical multi-faceted journeys into lands of unimaginable unemployment giving the worker near-infinite freedom of choice.
Based on this article if Peter is right then the console will be merely about gaming. I want the Xbox to at least have some social feature but it should solely be about gaming, that is why they call it a 'gaming console'. I also hope the Kinect will not be a required product to play games. TBH when I play Forza 4 on my 360, I turn the Kinect around so it can't see me (lol not to be extra but I just feel being watched :P). I have the feeling though that since it will be competing with Apple, Google and Samsung, if he is right the console will be more like a TV or mostly about entertainment. I hope it isn't though. He says MS are competing with Apple, Google and Samsung rather than Nintendo and Sony which means that it could be more on the entertainment side which means that how could they win. Though i doubt MS would do that but this is a gaming console market not a entertainment market.
Today is the day it all happens and I cannot wait to see what Ms has in store. Whether I buy the PS4 or XBox I'll see by E3.
In your dream .
""Its competition is no longer Sony and Nintendo, but rather Apple, Google and Samsung.""
"Molyneux would like the next Xbox to put the focus back on videogames."
Uh oh.He knows something we all feared. And it looks to be true, i suppose.Cable box app machine is Priority #1 for MS.
As far as "winning" i don't see how that is even possible.
*3rd in total sales
*Least offering of worthwhile games
*Already dropped support of 360 in favor of nextbox
(only a handful of first party games for the last few years, only one this year and NOTHING announced for future release)
Sony and Nintendo have multiple consoles to support, and handhelds, and they still offer more games and support than the company who only had to supply one machine.MS lost badly so far this gen.And make no mistake, this gen doesn't magically end anytime soon. There is no finish line, and i demand support for 360 for years to come.
Microsoft had it all in the beginning, but Sony won big time in the long run. Why? Lack of exclusives on Microsoft's end.
While I think Sony won this gen (Nintendo may have sold the most but they alienated hardcore gamers) MS does deserve credit for tripling their market-share.
