beated the ps3 version than took another route in the xbox version.

Doesnt strikes well with me to call under appreciated or underrated ,a game its publishers and devs found to be performing well and successful . Do we wish they had more appeal to the world ? Yes , most likely , but that's it .

Catherine did quite fine worldwide and already justified its existence with the japanese release alone .

I've been playing Catherine since picking it up free on Playstation plus. I had been considering buying it for a while and artistically it's beautiful. It really feels like a labour of love rather than another generic cash cow and it's a great example of how games are capable of so much more variety and originality than they often get chance to show.

Having said that, I'm just not up to the challenge. I'm only on the third night and have been stuck on one of the climbs for days. Not even the boss either. I've considered deleting it and moving on because every time I play I just end up frustrated. Still, I admit that's just me. I'm just not up to it and I tend to play games more for the experience than the challenge.

Resonance of Fate also underappreciated. The gameplay is superb with high difficulty for JRPG fans who want's challenge. The music from Motoi Sakuraba also good. Even though the story is a bit standard. The only little thing i don't like is the title. Don't understand why they changed the title from End of Eternity to Resonance of Fate. Because End of Eternity is more precise with the story theme of humans lived on the very high tower called Basel, when earth is dead and the land filled with poisonus gas. Too bad Sega release this game the same day / week with FF XIII.

Anyway, when the hell Persona team will give us some info about Persona 5? They already finished with Catherine 2 years ago and Shin Megaten IV is made by different team.

Resonance of Fate is awesome. One of the only JRPGs this gen that I felt the desire to actually play through multiple times, just because it was so fun.

I have a hunch that it will become one of those "hidden gems" that grows in popularity, since gamers have a tendency to revisit past generations to search for JRPGs they missed.

Yeah, i felt the same. Some new gen gamers who never play this game will search & play it because their friends told good things about it. But it's just too sad, because Tri-ace will likely never made game like this anymore T_T

I have some. In no particular order and sticking with this current generation, these are five games I think are underappreciated. And I'm in agreement with Heisenburger, thank you for not going for "underrated", but from me thank you for not going for the obvious "overrated" or "must die" lists. We see too many of those with people complaining instead of praising good games.

Binary Domain: A third person shooter that had a lot of charm pertaining to its teammate strategy portions and interactions with the environment and characters. It was a very solid third person shooter from Sega.

Catherine: I do agree with the inclusion of this game. It was sort of under the radar in 2011, but it was one of the best games that year. With its morality between choosing Catherine or Katherine and the puzzle platforming, it was a lot of fun.

Lollipop Chainsaw: As quirky as this game was, it was one of the more fun games from last year. It was slightly over the top, but I liked it for what it was. I surprisingly enjoyed it more than I thought, but the hack and slash action with personality bursting characters really sold me to this game.

Split/Second: A unique racing game that added the threat of road hazards that include explosions, airplanes, and a plethora of other dangers. I don't usually enjoy racing games, but the unique twist in this game with the dangers added more to the fun.

Vanquish: Not many people seemed to play this game, but I think this is Platinum Games' best game. I had more fun and got more entertainment value out of Vanquish than I did with their other games. The fast paced action, weapons, and gameplay were just fantastic.

Vanquish is top-notch, but it came out during the time when videogame journalists were still dumb enough to say stuff like "no multiplayer? automatic 6/10 score".

Ugh, I hate it when video game journalists make their nitpicks so damning to a game. Multiplayer isn't needed all the time. Vanquish was a great release in 2010. I would personally give it an 8 or 9.

I completely agree with Binary Domain and Vanquish. Both great games that didn't seem to really get a lot of attention. Didn't play the other three.

I highly recommend trying the others when you get the chance. I also agree with your agree on Binary Domain and Vanquish. I think it might have to do with them not getting as much exposure through ads, but the other side of the coin would be gamers' interests.

lots and lots of underappreciated games this generation unfortunately. I won't even start.

anyway, I think what killed Darkness II is:

1- cell shading engine, cell shading is not scary nor mature.
2- the cold and intimidating world of the first game that the second hadn't.
3- linear with not interesting sub quests
4- gameplay not realizing its full potential

the first was great and this it could've been so if not for some terrible decisions.
