I'm going to buy KZM regardless but after GTAIV, I'm holding off for GTAV for now although I think I will eventually buy it later, just hoping that there will be a next gen version in the pipeline.

I liked Saints Row 2 a LOT better than GTA4. To be honest, as a long time GTA fan, after the hype of GTA4 passed, it was really not that great of a game. I hear that the expansions made it a lot better but I never got those. I'm probably gonna buy them soon and play those to prepare for GTA V lol.

But yeah, Sleeping Dogs was great too. Better than GTA IV. We'll see about GTA V though, it seems to be really massive in scope. I wonder how long an average playthrough will take? Probably like 60+ hours lol. Imagine the time for 100%...Dear god...

Masterpiece should not be used in the same sentence as rockstar or GTA.

I think it's more to do with mindset.

GTA has been going along time, it's not the best open world game, it's just the most well known.

GTA4 was a mess, sleeping dogs was better. Although a different kind of open world game, infamous 2 was actually fun.

The New GTA really needs to be on nextgen machines. Hopefully it's not all the same type action as the others. Kinda getting like COD, same thing.

sleeping dogs is better than GTA 4 I think from what Ive played so far(got it free so that makes it better too). I know Red dead redemption is better than GTA 4. Hell GTA 3-SA are better than 4 I think. I liked Red faction guerrilla more than GTA 4 as well. Mafia 2 was pretty good too and had an awesome story compared to gta 4.

GTA 4 was just stupid how everyone who you committed crimes with wanted to go bowling and stuff too. Just not fun with trying to force crappy mini games on you. I save nicos brother from kidnapping, but right after that his approval rating of me goes down when I wont go get some pizza with him or some shit.

Can someone please explain to me why GTA is such a monster game? GTAIV was my first and only GTA game and I thought it was just mediocre. Driving wasn't much fun, shooting wasn't fluid, and I couldn't really get into the main character at all. I enjoyed Sleeping Dogs, which is GTA-esque, infinitely more than GTAIV. I just don't get it.

agreed grand theft auto 4 is by no means a game that represents the entire GTA series. that game is one of the worst Grand Theft Auto games!

you could play every GTA besides 4 in be a very happy person. their biggest mistake was attempting to release it on two systems despite the limitations of DVD.

they have gone on record to state that it was a mistake and they were limited in hindered my DVD 9 they've also going on record to stay at Grand Theft Auto 5 is the largest GTA game. rest assured GTA 5 will be the best released

Also, the 360 version of GTAIV was better than the PS3 version. It was clearer and had less aliasing (not by much though).

The 360 version of GTAIV will probably require an install on multiple disks, but it will be worth it and still be on par with the PS3 version I am sure.

The only argument I can see there is that they were limited by DVD in that they did not want to do multiple discs. DVD as a format, does not limit the quality of the graphics or anything like that. It does, however, limit how much data you can put on one disc. The core engine and gameplay will always fit on a DVD (at the moment). It is the amount of missions, cutscenes, music, etc. that they would be limited to by one DVD.

Having Blu Ray does not increase fidelity, only quantity of missions etc.

Rockstar might even have a disc swap ala L.A. Noire. When you reach a certain part of the game, you might have to swap the disc to continue the story, yet you could still go anywhere on the map on any of the discs.

@Fragmntagm. Nope you are wrong on that one. Many people have already stated and showed why GTA4 was actually better on the ps3, as it was the lead platform. It had way better draw distance, better explosions. Better frame rate, and has for aliasing they both sucked, because neither console used it. And dvd does hold back one part of the game for sure, uncompressed sound and higher sample rate/ bit resolution is no wear near what you can do with a blu ray. Fact

You probably played the console version of GTA IV, which is trash.

The engine far exceeds the console's capabilities and to properly enjoy GTA IV you'll need the realism mod for vehicles (it fixes a lot of the driving problems and makes everything feel "natural" and weighty).

You'll need the shooting realism mod so the gunplay is more fluid and dangerous.

You'll need iCEnhancer to unlock the visual capabilities that were stamped and stomped out on the console release.

GTA IV is definitely the best in the series...on PC. A lot of fanboys on here will disagree but just check out the Iron Man mod:

The engine was designed for high-end systems and so a lot of what GTA IV was capable of, many gamers just never got to experience it on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'd just like to add that it's hilarious how many of the popular mods that "fixed" GTA IV on PC will be standard on GTA V, including the weapons, vehicles and what lighting/shaders they can modify to work with the consoles.

Your whole post in nonsense, dude. GTA IV wasn't "designed for high-end" systems. The PC version of GTA IV was universally trashed for being an abysmal port. It was terribly optimized, and thus performed like garbage on a wide range of rigs that had no problems running Crysis at high/max settings.

Then you claim that the game is so great on PC, but in order to make the game even remotely decent, you have to link to a billion different mods lol. If the game was so great, it wouldn't need mods to make it decent.

So no, it wasn't "meant" for high-end rigs. If that were true, the PC port wouldn't have been an afterthought that released a while after the console release.

To drive the point home even further, it's still not even confirmed if GTA V will get a PC port. If it does, hopefully it's actually well-optimized this time around.

That also doesn't address the point that a lot of the mods made for GTA IV are now PART of the standard gameplay for GTA V. The car handling, shootouts, shaders and more. Not every game can be modded the way GTA IV could and that's a good thing. Doesn't matter if you like them or not, it just adds to a game's replay value.

I find the GTA games VERY underwhelming myself, I believe the only reason this franchise sells as much as it does is due to the punk kids/teenagers and man children, they think their a bad ass and part of the it crowd. Same with COD if my friend plays it then I must play it too sheep mentality. Just play some games online in these types of games and you will hear these punks on a regular basis compared to the occasional encounters on other types of non hyped games. I bet if I told any GTA/Rockstar fanboy/girl that I am passing on GTAV and I am more anticipating Beyond two souls they would insult me!

I would highly suggest GTA San Andreas (I've been playing it on PC for the past week) and GTA Vice City.
I think they are the two best GTA's.
If you have a PS3 you should be able to get them from the Playstation Store, I don't know if Xbox live has (I would assume it does).

I liked GTA IV quite a lot, until I completed the campaign and a few hours into online, the game became boring. Once you are bored playing a game you really notice all the problems with it.

I hope GTA IV doesn't deter you from playing past GTA games and of course GTA V; come its release day.

Play Red Dead and you will understand why R* are beasts in general. GTA4 is a very rare title that didn't resonate with us fans as much as we expected. I get a vibe from GTA5 that I didn't get with 4. It's a San Andreas vibe... it will deliver.

Gta 3 molded 90% of the open world games we play today, rockstar broke the barrier between what could be done in video games, vice city built upon that and San Andreas perfected it. Most games can't even touch gta San Andreas still till this day, it's hard for rockstar themselves to top it. RDR is close but gta 4 wasn't as good as people thought it was gonna be. I liked it though
