There will be no FIFA 14 on Wii U because of the "disappointing" sales of FIFA 13 on the console, EA has said.

Maybe if it wasn't literally a PORT of Fifa 12 and an actual new game.................lol

Nitrowolf23990d ago (Edited 3990d ago )

I doubt that was the reason, it's just that it was a launch title, for a system with no install base yet.It sold 6 Million on the PS3 and 4.5M on the Xbox 360.

The Wii U version only sits at about 70K, the Vita version sits at 200K.

I mean both Vita up the WiiU by a few millions, but I think EA was expecting at least somewhere in the triple digit for the Wii U version.

That and it was a launch title for the Wii U

animegamingnerd3990d ago

i am wondering how much madden and fifa will sell if they are launch titles for the PS4 and 720

ABizzel13990d ago (Edited 3990d ago )

This is the first time EA had the balls to say it, and no play corporate safety. They've been using every excuse in the book, difficulties with engines running on the console, yet PS360 can run the games?

Hard fact is these developers are losing money making Nintendo ports of these games, because the majority of Nintendo fans won't buy these 3rd party games. The most insane part to me is that there's NOTHING being produced from Nintendo's 1st party, and instead of buying what's available these "Nintendo fans" aren't buying anything.

I blame Nintendo for the Wii U's underpowered hardware considering what was available to them at the time in 2011 and 2012 for a similar price, but games sales are completely on the Wii U fans. The Wii U just passed the 3 million mark, and Nintendo Land and NSMB U are closing in on 2 million copies sold. In third place is ZombieU who has yet to break 500k. That's insane. And it's not like there aren't good games for the Wii U, especially if you were a Wii only owner. Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed 3, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dragon Quest X, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and Need for Speed Most Wanted are all available for the Wii U and not one of those games have sold over 150K copies. IN-FREAKIN'-SANE. Even the mega-sellers Monster Hunter, COD, and Just Dance are struggling to get near 500k. IN-FREAKIN'-SANE.

The first excuse is always a bad port, which is BS because some of the games run better than the PS360 versions. But even the games consider bad ports are nothing more than a couple of graphical glitches or RARE performance drops, but NOTHING that breaks the game.

This is business and if people aren't buying enough of your games on a particular console to cover the expenses then the ideal business move is to stop making your games for said console until they get a large enough install base to where your chances of making a profit are ideal.

But I give Nintendo respect for trying to give 3rd parties a chance. The Wii U launched maily with 3rd party support giving developers a chance to get their games out and on the console hoping for support, but Nintendo fans obviously don't care. So 3rd parties are going to stop making games for the Wii U, until Nintendo gets if 1st party games out to increase the install base then we may see a resurgence in late 2014 - 2015, but until then expect little 3rd party support for the Wii U.

If you're a multi-console / PC owner then this doesn't apply to you for the most part considering you'd likely continue to franchise on your other console, but for those Nintendo only fans who complain about 3rd party support this is why 3rd parties don't support Nintendo. Not because of hardware, but because you won't buy their games even when they through the good stuff at you.

ABizzel13989d ago

I love when people disagree, but don't reply. If you disagree why? Or prove me wrong.

DOMination-3989d ago

Yeah. N4G is full of people who say they dont care and just waiting for first party. People buy Nintendo consoles to play Mario and Zelda. Good games but that attitude hurts it longterm.

Maybe if wiiu was actually reasonably decent to develop for.....

Ashunderfire863990d ago

It was a launch title for crying out loud!!!! Give it a chance!!! And it certainly didn't help that Madden 2013 didn't have Ragdoll physics like the 360/PS3 version due to rushing launch. Man why is it that the Wii U always get the back end of the stick? The Wii U will be the last system I am getting this gen like the Wii, but this is just disappointing man. Nintendo need to release a megaton of games with a price cut to $200-$250 to win back those customers. Heck bundle Bayonetta 2 or Mario Kart with the Wii U!!!

NYC_Gamer3990d ago (Edited 3990d ago )

I guess Wii U owners aren't into football

lilbroRx3990d ago (Edited 3990d ago )

No, they just aren't into bad game.

When it comes to people assessment of Nintendo gamers preferences, they always seem to chose every possibility except the one they actually voice or makes sense.

Like the first poster of this thread stated, It was just FIFA 12 rebranded.

Wii U owners aren't stupid. Why would we buy something that was obviously made to short change us?

ABizzel13989d ago

Then explain why all the good games are failing to struggling to make 200k sales on the Wii U, or even 150k.

Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed 3, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dragon Quest X, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and Need for Speed Most Wanted are all under 150k in sales, and which one of those are "bad games".

3990d ago
Jek_Porkins3990d ago

Wow, I mean it was a launch title for the Wii u, which had zero install base. Did they expect it to sell 4 million copies when there were no consoles in the wild? It's that mentality that makes me dislike EA.

I think in the end it's just an excuse, something bad happened between Nintendo and EA.

animegamingnerd3990d ago

i am just getting annoyed how people are thinking consoles are a instant success right out the gate did this gen teaching anyone anything?

ABizzel13989d ago

@Jek

No, but I'm pretty sure they were expecting to sell more than 10,000 copies. Yes that right 10,000 out of 3 million, aka 0.3% attach rate.

Would you spend a couple millions to make a port when you're making less $500,000 back on the game at retail? Exactly bad business.

Jek_Porkins3989d ago

They are only at a over 3 million at this point and time, since it was a launch date game the actual install base was like 0.

It's the job of developers and publishers to put compelling software on a new console, advertise and in general help each other, a symbiotic relationship if you will. EA is the most selfish publisher there is, no doubt about it. They didn't want to give the Wii U a chance, and it shows.

ABizzel13989d ago

@Jek

"They are only at a over 3 million at this point and time, since it was a launch date game the actual install base was like 0."

Which is the mentality of the ignorant gamer (in general). Since it's not new anymore no one's going to buy it.

"It's the job of developers and publishers to put compelling software on a new console, advertise and in general help each other, a symbiotic relationship if you will. EA is the most selfish publisher there is, no doubt about it. They didn't want to give the Wii U a chance, and it shows."

And what about Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed 3, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dragon Quest X, Injustice: Gods Among Us, ZombiU, and Need for Speed Most Wanted.

Ok, it's 6 months later and Nintendo fans still aren't buying games. Launch titles or not, they're complaining there are no games, but I've listed over 10 great games on the console and all are underperforming.

Even games considered to be "system sellers" aren't doing anything for the console. Monster Hunter, Just Dance 4, Call of Duty are all UNDERPERFORMING on the console and not moving units.

blackbirdi3990d ago

they are dispointed with the sales fifa 13 no wonder they released fifa updated version of fifa 12 its not even close to 360/ps3

EA Hopes to Use Generative AI to Drive Monetization and Make Development 30% More Efficient

Today Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson provided a look into his ideas for the use of generative AI in the company's development processes.

I wonder what the next buzz word they'll slap in front of AI to make it sound exciting next? "Generative" as if it's creating its own content. Lol.

Cacabunga43d ago

EA is already dying a painful death..

peppeaccardo43d ago

i have a better idea .. why the whole exec team doesn't get replaced by chat bots ?

just_looken43d ago

Though i agree the ai thing is already in other forms of media there have been ai translations/scripts/voice over and even full ai commercials aired on tv. Ubisoft has created a ai game creator story/vo/music except the building of the game

The new unreal engine has auto terrain creation tools

In the world of greed in which it is winning without any major blow back ai is our future.

everyone want's biden dead on the mic or a criminal instead of a woman and now we are getting ai everything because no one will stop watching/playing ai created media.

GamerRN43d ago

Maybe they should just focus on making good games?

Just a thought...

Kiryu199242d ago

Exactly EA are just pure evil. When they are beating Bank of America to be voted the worst company to work for that’s saying a lot

Good thing I don’t buy their games day one and wait for deep deep sale years after launch (the select few games I am actually interested in)

Gaming is making so much money yet the greed of these companies is never ending

CEO’s and people on board making millions yet cutting jobs to those who are actually making the products

EA is still a shady shitty company even with or without the help of Skynet. All they will use AI for is new ways to milk loot boxes and come up with the same sports title with a different year on the label. They are one company I truly do hate with a passion. They single handedly ruined some great franchise with their death touch. ME, Dead Space, Alice Returns, Dante's Inferno.

EA layoffs followed by 'Generative AI to Drive Monetization'

I knew it. Wonder what AI salary looks like? Nothing.

ChasterMies43d ago

I having a feeling that most of the layoffs in the industry are based on the idea that AI will do the same job for less.

DarXyde42d ago

Very likely, yes.

Made worse by the fact that the execs aren't changing their compensations.

My deepest fear at this point is that we are now in the capitalism endgame.

At this point, we really should just burn AI to the ground. Executives cannot be trusted to do the right thing.
How are those people expected to support families if everything gets automated?

Barlos43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

And take away creativity, and people's jobs as we've been seeing. Got it.

No thanks. I want my games created by people, not AI.

CobraKai43d ago

Exactly. If or when games start becoming more AI than people, im done with gaming. AI and companies like EA can suck donkey d***k.

just_looken43d ago

Though i agree remember this is no ps3/360 era were we got up to 3 games in one generation from on developer like gears/halo/bioware/sony/ms

The people today are pro esg/sweet baby for the most part AAA gaming is imploding right now.

We should be stepping back re evaluate everything as a whole this year xmen 97 written/directed by a woman that is nuts and its also being made by a group reshaping bodies to be less sexual like wtf. A dam famous cartoon from the 90's is being rebuilt with millions spent to be worse in everyway.

Gaming/movies/tv shows made today are worse than what we had 7years ago ai won't change this but that ai is also being made by these groups so either way we are screwed.
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Eonjay42d ago

Don't be of afraid of women. Sexy characters in games and movies still exist. Got my Stellar Blade on preorder!!! Everything all the time doesn't need to be sexual...that's stupid, childish and dull.

Chocoburger43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

EA doesn't want to lose their title of worst gaming company ever, always trying their best to remain the champs!
What's sad is that they have so much potential to be a decent publisher.

SSX Tricky / SSX 3
Def Jam Vendetta / Fight for New York
NBA Street
NFL Steet
Mirror's Edge
Bad Company
Burnout 3 / 4 / 5

Remember when EA used to be awesome? It's all over with now. Unpolished, if not out-right broken games these days. Endless monetization and gambling in their sports games, and let's not forget wasting hours of your life trying to unlock characters or equipment using "surprise boxes!"

EA - Continuing to evolve our business and teams

EA CEO Andrew Wilson writes: "In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce. I understand this will create uncertainty and be challenging for many who have worked with such dedication and passion and have made important contributions to our company. While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams. Our primary goal is to provide team members with opportunities to find new roles and paths to transition onto other projects. Where that’s not possible, we will support and work with each colleague with the utmost attention, care, and respect. Communicating these impacts has already begun and will be largely completed by early next quarter."

All the big ones doing the same stuff. Terrible. I just hope that all these people are able to get a new job as soon as possible, God know that it is horrible to be left jobless when you have your kids or your parents depending on your financial help

just_looken50d ago

Another long list that skips over UPS cutting 12,000 jobs those workers as we know work without ac low pay and old box trucks but that company had to cut 12k jobs do too loosing billions of dollars year 2 year.

https://edition.cnn.com/202...

The greed and lack of transparency/oversight is disgusting.

Ups are still making bang but not enough for a golden boat fleet.

Remember we all use ups at some time even stuff in our stores this is going to be a huge issue gong forward i know in my area they removed half the state ups stores northern half least population got some 3rd party running packages now from minivans.

Sonic188150d ago

When I explan this I get called a troll 🤔 like wtf

thorstein50d ago

@just_looken

UPS is a different story altogether.

They are paying the people doing the actual work/ earning the money more and eliminating management.

You do realize around this time this happens all throughout many industries (not just the game industry), right? It has to do with taxes for these major companies, like tax subsidies for downsizing. You want to know a little secret? Around May or so you’ll see a spike in hiring…

It blows my mind that people are oblivious to corporate workings.

Andrew33650d ago

So over 25 huge companies cut jobs every year like this and it only got noticed this time?

CrimsonWing6950d ago (Edited 50d ago )

@Andrew336

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Google it up if you’re uninformed of how corporations work. Only gamers seem to live in a bubble and when they see things like crunch, acquisitions, and lay-offs they act like this is the only industry it happens to and how shocked they are about it.

Welcome to the real world, kid.

thorstein50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

EA CEO Wilson's total compensation was 20 million. Let's take away 19 million (I'm sure he can survive on 1 million.... somehow).

1 million is the salary of an in the chair developer @100,000 for 10 years.

He could earn 1 million a year.

And save the jobs of 15 in the chair devs for A DECADE (plus benefits) with ONE YEAR'S compensation.

RhinoGamer8850d ago

No Executive accountability or firings I see...

just_looken50d ago

Do not worry they will take over 40mill say sorry then get hired by playstation or xbox

blackblades49d ago

I heard Japan does it better, they do layoffs like what's happening with companies in the west. The higher ups also being agreeing to to lower there own salary. These MFs like jim and Phil isnt gonna do that they want that $

Sonic188150d ago

Like I said earlier, this is happening all around the gaming industry.

Petebloodyonion50d ago

The point I feel is problematic about all of this is that focusing on Owned Ip means more sequels, remasters and more of what was selling last year.

TheColbertinator50d ago

EA is certainly among the worst,if not the worst
