Feudal Japan would be cool.

I was thinking of adding that. It would be nice to see a game about ancient Japan that was't like Dynasty Warriors.

When GTA vice city came out my friends and I sat around and we said "you know what would be badass? A GTA set in the 90s around L.A and the gangsta rap scene... and boom! Out came San Andreas. I always thought GTA could really do almost any decade and make it good... Mobsters in the 50s , 70s style hippy/drug scene, even future... I guess GTA IV kind of covered 2000's ...

That's why I loved Red Dead Redemption so much. The open-world sandbox game works for just about any time period because no matter what anyone else says, it's not about violence and sex but about exploring a world that makes the GTA games (and game like it) awesome.

I want to be a caveman and meet other cavemen to go on adventures with. Clubbing others on the head would never get old. We could also ride on dinosaurs and hunt for stuff.

Left 4 Dead with cavemen and dinosaurs.

kneon3992d ago

Except that cavemen and dinosaurs never coexisted, but that never stooped Hollywood from doing it.

Just in time for a grim and gritty Batman Begins-style reboot of The Flinstones!

Interesting read, and i can say all those periods interest me quite a bit and I think the 1900 - 1930 periods is the most under used time period. With all the major events, technical advancement and just being badass it's a shame so few games are based on it.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.

It was worrisome to begin with.

It's a niche genre with only a handful of hits that can stand the test of time.

Cacabunga23h ago

I like the sound of that!! I will for sure never support these gaas games.
Sony must be shocked at gamer's reaction, making them cancel a few of these and hopefully go back to the good heavy hitters they had us used to..
now bring on that PSPro reveal and show us some SP 1st party awesomeness.

What’s to be unsure of!? Look at the ratio of success to failure!

DarXyde1d 3h ago

It's pretty ridiculous.

Imagine having a breadth of data at your disposal to see the statistically low success rate of these games, only to be laser focused on the exceptional case studies.

shinoff21831d 18h ago

Yes. Stop all the live service bs.

jznrpg1d 18h ago

Only a few will catch on. You need a perfect storm to be successful in GaaS and a bit of luck on top of that. But a potential cash cow will keep them trying and some will go out of business because of it.

Helldivers 2 manages just fine…

Keep production costs low… don’t just make custscenes until the mechanics and enemies are perfected first.

Make so much content that you can drip extra content for years, and the game already feels complete without them.

Most importantly: make weapons, enemies, levels, and mechanics that will stand the test of 1000 hours. This might require more devs embracing procedurally generated leveled, which I think separates Helldivers 2 from Destiny’s repetitiveness.
