Everyday Digitals - The idea of being able to play games on the couch from arguably the best gaming platform on the market sounds great. In fact many people are already do just that. But instead of the plug & play usability of a gaming console, serious PC gamers for years have setup their computers in the living room and ran an HDMI or other, more elaborate setups out to their TVs in order to get the lean back experience. Valve made that experience more user-friendly last year by releasing a version of Steam with tweaked UI to better suit couch surfers and controllers. The release of "Big Picture Mode" was an obvious signal that Steam was vying for a more permanent spot in the living room.
Fan projects Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64 have shut down after Valve intervened in their development.
First they open Steam up to more AI, now they are shutting down fan projects when at one time they used to support or even give the fans jobs.
Wonder what's going on with Valve at the minute.
I mean, that might explain the Team Fortress 2 thing, because Valve might bring that to Source 2 (though I'm not sure I'd bet on that), but I can't see how Portal 64 hurts them. If anything, it's more attention to the Portal and therefore Valve/Steam.
There's potential that Valve had already planned to bring Source 2 to TF2 officially after Counter Strike 2. It's been getting some renewed attention lately.
You got Nintendo to thank for Portal64 being taken down. As for TF2, most likely it's due to the probability of Valve working on a source 2 port themselves. It's sucks but Nintendo are the biggest pricks in the business and not letting this drag out into a huge court drama is the best decision.
Valve has updated its stance on AI games on the Steam storefront, allowing creators to publish AI-created games.
Hell no. I want games that have been made by creative minds who have a passion for their craft, not a bot with a penchant for plagiarism.
So instead of paying for an engine and assets to create a game they are paying for an engine and assets to create a game.

This has nothing to do with generations. It’s not a stupid challenge or anything. People just happened to smell it while they were playing. The steam deck exhaust is easy to smell without even trying. Just playing it you’ll smell it in the air around you.

To be fair, I loved the smell of glue, gas and certain plastics as a kid (new disc cartridges/new hardware, anyone?)

Even the Steam Deck does streaming better than the Portal (they portal is capped for streaming for some reason, whereas the Steam Deck isn't).
imagine pretending a glorified streaming device is better than a stand alone unit that can also, stream.
Better than the Switch cartridges is my guess.
Just to be clear, I've never licked a Switch cartridge, nor have I inhaled my deck's fumes.

hmm he has a point this isn't going to convert any PC gamers- and I can't see it having the exclusives to draw people to it-when it will have pretty much the same specs as ps4/next xbox- hmmm although if Valve say made half life 3 etc excluisve.... but I doubt they will tbh? :p
I don't know...I have a big game collection on Steam, and it's just gathering digital dust, because I can't be bothered to get home from work, where I sat in front of a computer, and sit in front of another computer to play games. I play much more on my PS3 and 360 nowadays...if the Steambox has a decent performance, price, ease of use and, more importantly, a great controller that can allow me to play RTS games too, I might buy it and start PC gaming again.
I know everyone will say: "but you can connect your PC to your TV", but my computer is very big and heavy, and my living room just doesn't have any more space. It's just not practical to me. I think the Steambox is geared towards guys like me. The question is: how many of us are in the world?

I just hooked my laptop to my TV via HDMI last night for the first time and was playing STALKER.... why does a Steam Box even exist?
