Game Informer - Replay – Onimusha: Warlords

Game Informer - Capcom's Onimusha series took real life characters from history and retold actual historical battles with supernatural elements. The game follows a couple of ghost busting Samurai who travel through the country killing demonic monsters and absorbing their souls with a mystical gauntlet. It's probably pretty close to the actual history.

I love this game, brings back a lot of memories.
Still hoping and waiting they remake the original in true 1080p glory.

Hopefully the story will be a bit longer this time though...

ltachiUchiha4001d ago

Totally agree. I still cant believe we didnt see a new onimusha game this gen. Such an awesome series.

jeremyj29134001d ago

Because Capcom was too busy sucking and trying to kill all its franchises this gen. Hope they return to form before they fade into obscurity.

ltachiUchiha4001d ago

Definitely agree with u there jeremy & they seem to focus more on the west like square enix and is why we havent seen many of the awesome games they used to create this gen. Smh.

This game was awesome. Second one was even better and expanded with multiple playable characters. Third one had a ridiculous famous french guy, but the gameplay was still solid as ever. Dawn of dreams was the worst of the series. The cutscenes these games used to have were pretty boss back in the day.

This game had the best end boss and ending out of the series. The third one had the best intro cinematic.

I do not see Cacpom returning to this series without bastardizing it the same way they did with Resident Evil. It would become an over the shoulder action game more simliar to metal gear rising and would be nothing like the original 1,2,3 so i couldn't give two shits whether not they return to it.

These games all were designed more for core gamers relying on item/mana management with the third person perspective. No way in hell Capcom is going to do a 180 and make these types of games again. It would actually be in their interest if the next gen consoles are expensive to do so but the execs at these companies are fucking clueless.

I'm pretty much done with capcom. Glad inafune and killian left them. Soul Sacrifice, while not perfect, was a great multiplayer game.

Inception4001d ago

Imho, in terms of gameplay, Dawn of Dreams is on par with Onimusha 2. It had multiple playable characters (Yagyu Akane is my fav char), lot of weapons, special move, and a bit RPG element (level up characters). I really enjoy it even though the story isn't that serious like 1-3.

Polva4001d ago

It's always surprising to think about how popular this series used to be in Japan a decade ago, and how it's fallen from the public eye entirely. Great series, though, for real.

yeahokchief4001d ago (Edited 4001d ago )

If you think about it, these games were pretty much a prelude to God of War which copies their soul collection and magic power attack mechanics.

A PS4 game with this third person style of god of war and a samurai sword would be badass. If I made games, that's what I'd make. God of War with a samurai sword and the issen counter attacks. The counter attack kills are really satisfying in soul sacrifice especially when u need more casts.

Push the Ps4 to it's limits by make the areas you fight in gigantic with tons of little enemies mixed and bigger ones the size of the ship monsters in that intro video above. Allow the player to zoom in and out with the camera to see everything going on. Let the character run really fast to accommodate the size of the maps. And make the magic attacks completely over the top. Like when you zoom out you either have a magic attack to kill an enemy the size of a building or wipe out fields of enemies like in the new lords of shadow 2 teaser trailer.

cerpintaxt444001d ago

devil may cry was more of a prelude to GOW ominusha was a samurai resident evil with static backgrounds and tank controls

Capcom really needs to revive this series! This series was by far my favorite during the PS2 era.

Will We Ever See A New Onimusha Game?

Cultured Vultures: Capcom's epic samurai series Onimusha has been on hiatus for the better part of 15 years. We're asking if it'll ever come back.

Nope, and Capcom tested the waters with Onimusha HD and nobody bought it. So, yea, we effectively killed the Onimusha franchise by not buying the game.

MrSwankSinatra1093d ago

not true because i remember in that leaked capcom document of all their future projects "onimusha new work" was one of the titles listed.

blackblades1092d ago

Yeah that was a literal leak not a rumors leak. Guess people forgot about it.

VersusDMC1093d ago

The HD remake had a music problem due to the controversy with the original composer and replacing his music with meh music. Maybe that affected sales.

But an Onimusha game of the quality of recent capcom games (RE2,DMC5) would definitely be welcomed by everyone and the sales of Ghost of tsushima will hopefully push Capcom to give the franchise another try.

Silly gameAr1092d ago

It wasn't a remake though, it was a remaster, and they could have done a better job on it, but it was good playing through it for old times sake.

Now, if they made a full remake, that would be awesome.

Redrex70001093d ago

they just put that game out there out of the blue
wish they did it for the other games

FlavorLav011093d ago (Edited 1093d ago )

We didn’t kill it by not picking up an old ass game with hardly any quality of life updates. That game was absolutely amazing for its time, but it’s capcom’s own fault for such a lame remaster. You want interest from old fans or new fans, you gotta come with something that doesn’t look and feel 3 generations old.

zarbor1092d ago

LOL....the reason we will not see another Onimusha game is not because they put out a dopey HD version of an antiquated game on current gen. The reason we will not see it is the same reason we have not seen a new Dino Crisis, Okami, Strider, Viewtiful Joe, Bionic Commando, etc. Its the same reason everytime.

CrimsonWing691092d ago (Edited 1092d ago )

Oh yea? Tell that to the Darkstalker fans then.

Same thing happened to Zone of the Enders 3.

Pass.

Ghost of Tsushima filled that void for me, and then some. I don't see Capcom reaching this level of quality for a single-player game.

FreeckyCake1093d ago

Ghost of Tsushima nor Nioh is nothing like the Onimusha franchise. Onimusha is unique compared to GOT.

1093d ago
MrSwankSinatra1092d ago

lmaoooo what? ghost of tsushima doesn't have anything in common with onimusha out of the character being a samurai lmaooooo

Godmars2901093d ago

How about remakes/reissues of the old ones?

Dirtnapstor1093d ago

We have. It's called Nioh. And it's glorious.

FlavorLav011093d ago (Edited 1093d ago )

Nioh gameplay - world class (10/10)
Nioh story telling - not so much (4/10)

MrSwankSinatra1092d ago

Nioh story is garbage tbh. plus i don't care for the characthers of that series unlike onimusha which had much better writing and characters.

Godmars2901092d ago

Onimusha's main characters, aside from 4, were all based on real actors.

Vithar1092d ago

damn that's cool :) haha never played Onimusha

Onimusha was a great franchise. I wish they'd relaunch the franchise with a next gen entry. Until then though, I guess Sekiro is more than capable of filling the gap left by Onimusha.

CrimsonWing691183d ago

Excellent game and I'm pissed we won't get a port of 2, 3, and Dawn of Dreams so I can get the platinum on them!
