‘Final Fantasy X-2 HD’ compared to the original and emulated versions

character models look better on the PS3 remake but everything else looks much better on the PCSX2.

True, however the emulator is likely chucking on a bunch of effects that most devs would never dream of using anyway. If you look at some of the other screens the character models are also strangely elongated in the screens from PCSX2, it's likely when they were taken there was a lot more than just AA in use on the emulator

Gotta love comparisons of 'HD' remakes with sub-HD screenshots.... Games are in 1080p / 720p and we get comparisons in 600x300...

Why do people call these HD remakes? They arent and it gives a different impression of what they are. These are HD remasters.

A remake is the new freddy movie that came out last year. A remaster is more along the lines of prettying up a DVD to release it on Blu-ray.

hard to tell really. The textures in the ps3 version look higher rez but less saturated than in the pcx2 version.

Also it does almost look like the poly count is bigger in the ps3 version... hard to tell though. Look at riku's hair. Her braid is less angular in the ps3 version.

I disagree. The character models are better, the hair is noticeably more detailed and if you look at the clouds the sky is more detailed as well. I also noticed that foliage looked better too.

No it doesn't. The PCSX2 version just have a darker color scheme, and the colors look saturated. But You can't be serious that there is more textures and polygons in there right? The developers know what theyre doing.

The PCSX2 looks over saturated and oily. Probably due to the heavy AA that person used and their rgb settings, it's definitely not as easy on the eye as the remaster.

I got to say the PS3 version looks better than when I put my FFX PS2 disc in my beast of a gaming PC and emulate it. That's pretty good considering with the PCSX2 I can make it look far better and run at a higher resolution than the developers at the time ever thought possible.

One downside though...The colors look more washed out and not as vivid on the PS3 as the PCSX2 version. Still better than the PS2 version though.

Oh and by the way the PCSX2 doesn't look over-saturated when I play it.

You're still only upscaling a natively low res game. You won't get the same detail as with a proper PS3 remaster, especially when they add higher res textures. Just like with every game.

Also, it's cleaner, not washed out and your TV will add extra contrast anyway.

I emulate it and the big difference is the HD Collection has Widescreen Support.

The PCSX2 version you can have higher resolution, and add post-processing as well as other things. But it will always be in 4:3 format unless you stretch it.

I was wrong, I haven't emulated it in over a year. And as far as I can tell the thread for that started in march of last year.

There's still issues with 2D things stretching like menu's and not ingame cutscenes.

It can be rendered 16*9 but pre-rendered video is stuck 4:3.

the funny thing about the emulation is that it forces all these things through software and it still looks good. Now if only Sony put all that power on the PS4 to emulate PS2 games like the PCSX2 does, that'd be like a dream come true.

Mainly because Square Enix isn't marketing their products solely based on your opinions... luckily. FINAL FANTASY X is a fantastic game, but I'm not sure why you think they are "capatalizing" FINAL FANTASY X-2 HD more than FINAL FANTASY X; this is the first time we've seen anything to do with FINAL FANTASY X-2 HD since the trailer, so the advertising has been focussed mainly on FINAL FANTASY X.

For another, the game actually isn't that bad, once you get over your preconceptions, particularly about it being the same as FFX was.

Of course, if people did that, the reputation of X-2 AND XIII would be different.

they only remaster the ones that are easy to remaster. All the ones on PS1 have pre-rendered backgrounds and FFVI is all sprites so Square would need to do everything from scratch.

For me, the only real problem of X-2 is the ridiculously high encounter rate. One time while playing X-2, I jumped a ledge and while mid-air I got into a battle. After that, before I got to the ground, I got into ANOTHER battle.

It's a shame they won't re-do the lip-syncing. That's what this game really needs above all else. That would make a huge difference to me.

I cannot wait to play these. FF X was a masterpiece, and FF X-2, for all its flaws, was a lot of fun to play, though trying to get the 100% completion was a headache.

Too bad there isn't a multiplayer Blitzball component. That minigame consumed so much of my time back in the day. It's no Triple Triad, but I found it a great minigame nonetheless.
