Do You See Difficult Games As A Chore?

Everyone likes a challenge but there comes a point where that challenge becomes...well, not fun. At what point does entertainment become annoying?

It really depends on the game. I spend this past winter beating every single Ghost 'n Goblins games (on the cartridges, not an emulator). Took long as fuck, and it was more difficult than anything the current-gen has thrown at me, but it was a lot of fun, too.

only if I don't like them but I usually play games that I like on their hardest difficulty.

When I was playing Demon Souls a couple weeks ago, I was cracking up when I died on the first level and I had to go all the way back to the beginning. I turned the game off right after because attempting to try it again seemed like a chore to me.

Demon Souls isn't a "fun" game in the traditional sense. The only enjoyment you get out of it are brief moments of joy everytime you ACTUALLY manage to beat a ridiculously overpowered boss. The enemies you fight leading up to that boss felt like a chore to me.

Theres a difference between a challenging game(Rock Band on Expert) and a frustrating game (Demon Souls). Challenging games make you WANT to get better, frustrating games simply make you want to stop playing.

So yeah, to ME, a game like Demon Souls will always be a chore, not necessarily because the game is difficult(theres nothing "hard" about Demon Souls' core gameplay, its simply unforgiving with its checkpoint system) but more because the core gameplay just isn't that fun with stiff animations that work against you when trying to move your character.

I don't feel the same constant sense of joy with DS that I do with Sleeping Dogs for example.

Golden Axe is a great game I enjoyed it on the SMS, Genesis and in the arcade. Great game but it truly was a quarter eater back in the day. I wish Sega could get the rights to the arcade port of Moonwalker another great arcade game I enjoyed. Collect so many monkeys and become Robo Michael lol.
