Best Boss Battles in Gaming History - Part Seven

"WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

We cannot believe it has been over a year since we last took a look at our favorite boss fights of all time. We're sure you're wanting to catch up, so you can see all six past installments at the end of this article. Some argue that boss battles are too old school for modern games. Something that strives to be akin to a blockbuster like Call of Duty or Killzone probably shouldn't have boss battles in them, but if it's an RPG or a platformer, then sure, why not? For us, it all comes down to what the type of game is. These five boss battles that we've selected are ones that were fun to play, awesome to see, and/or just too damn entertaining to put into words. Regardless, we've gone ahead and done the futile task of putting these fights into words. We hope you enjoy our selections. After we're done, why not mention some of your own?" Dude, I was thinking the same thing, but for KH2. That and Xenmas' battle was awesome. Would also swap out one of Bowsers forms with DMC3s Virgil OR Darkstar from No More Heroes. That said, this is a great article.

We haven't listed those before, so thanks for those ideas for future installments!

GOW3 for me. i loved smashing Hercules face in and falling through the ground into the well.. then swimming under the water to look at his beautiful face =)

All the Colossi are awesome bosses to do battle with especially if Agro catapults you to them from his back!

The helicopter in Uncharted 2 is also an awesome boss.

Seven Force in Guns Star Heroes is also cool.

my favourite of all time has been poseidon in gow 3

SH!T was INSANE!! 1st time i played through i quit and restarted just so i could replay that boss battle.

i know it was just so high octane for the first part of any game and felt epic

That's also a great one. We've previously listed the Colossus of Rhodes from GoWII and the Minotaur from the original GoW. Poseidon will most likely be in a future installment of our ongoing series.

No list would be complete without Shadow of the Colossus. Every fight in it was an experience to remember.

In addition:

- fighting Vergil in DMC3
- pretty much every boss in the God of War series
- Kessler in inFamous
- the Uncharted 2 helicopter fight on the rooftops
- most of the bosses in Vanquish
- The Boss in MGS3
- The End in MGS3...

I could be here all day.

I’d have taken a few of those out. Prefer Sonic over Sonic 2. Outrun should be in there. Maybe even Pong as millions of people had fun with that even if it was repetitive. Final Fight pipped any Streets of Rage game, although Streets of Rage had the better soundtrack. Too many to list l guess. To me, retro gaming is the 1980s, maybe going into early 1990s.

Agree that the generational gap is too broad to really make a strong list. Need to tighten the years a bit. Hard to compare Pac Man with N64 games.
