The Internet Should Be Nicer To Phil Fish

Phil Fish was recently the center of yet another controversy as he took to Twitter and accused Redditors of "murdering" a young man accused of committing the April 15th Boston bombings.

Fish is the creator of FEZ, the hugely popular indie game that was the subject of Indie Game: The Movie. The game has sold over 200,000 copies on Xbox Live to date, and catapulted Fish to video game stardom in mid-2012. The game centers around Gomez, a 2-D character thrust into a 3-D world after discovering the magical Hexahedron. The game was praised by critics for its innovative design and forward-thinking gameplay, and it received numerous nominations and awards. Since its release, Fish has been very vocal about his criticism of the games industry, including his comments about Japanese games and, most recently, the Boston bombings.

Random Quotes :

"Your games just suck"
"My delivery could have been more tactful, but I do think most modern Japanese games are god-damn awful."
"fuck right off"
"really? well fuck you, then."
"it's #1 on steam right now and it's not even out yet. you should boycott harder, nerds..."

I think Phil Fish should be nicer to the rest of the world, first.

Respect goes hand in hand. He should have been more reserved but a lot of people on forums are just downright negative, aggressive and ignorant.

Who the fuck is "Fill The Fish" ?

Can't say this article changed my mind. The guy is a prick and people are not trying to deny him his right to his opinion by calling him a prick when he gives a pricky opinion.
He's an also-ran in the already overcrowded world of purposefully retro hipster games. Fez contains some interesting ideas as do many games in that genre but it isn't even close to being the breakthrough for the industry he seems to think it is. He acts like he's Gabe Newell.

The game is $10. What are you expecting, a AAA 100 million dollar game? I don't know why people can't just play the game and try and have fun instead of all of this drama. Who the hell cares what he says? I don't know the guy. I couldn't care less what he does in his personal life or what he thinks. If the game is fun it's fun. If it;s garbage it's garbage. Base it off of experience, not what the National Enquirer writes or some tweet he wrote.

I can't believe people actually involve themselves this much into stuff like this where they take it this personal.

I said it was an alright game, or at least implied it. I said it contained some interesting ideas. I only made reference to his game to compare to his ridiculous ego and the things you would think he had accomplished. The subject being discussed here is whether or not the guy deserves the hate he gets online in response to his personal opinions. If you don't think that's an interesting discussion you don't have to take part.

I'm sure people can just play Fez and have fun without all the drama but Fez is not the issue here. I merely mentioned the game to illuminate the difference between the guy's actual accomplishments and the things he acts like he's accomplished. He created an alright Indie game but he acts like he created the world's most popular 100 million dollar blockbuster game, that's my point. If the guy worked at Starbucks and I pointed out that he acts like he owns the company I'm sure you wouldn't point out that he pours an average cup of coffee that I can enjoy without all the drama.

It's not like I've been stewing over this issue for years or anything. I forgot I even left my last comment. I just thought I'd leave a quick comment to point out that the guy does in fact act like a ridiculously arrogant dick and deserves to be treated as such. At the end of the day I don't really care either way but since the issue was raised here I don't think it's crazy and obsessive to offer an opinion on it.

Review - Fez (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "In short, Fez is as good now as it has always been. The reason I call this version the best way to experience this indie game is mostly due to the perfect combination of the Switch’s portability and its screen being much larger than the Vita’s. This is easily one of the best indies ever made, and one of the most important games of the past decade. Even though a lot of younger players only know it due to its troubled development cycle and some post-launch controversies, Switch owners should definitely pick this game up. This gem took an eternity to arrive on the system, but it feels right at home on it."
