you gotta be kidding me. they cant even deliver games with quality and depth comparable to handhelds.. let alone to defeat consoles

they maybe booming in sales because the fact that they are still phones and necessity in our needs but solely for gaming? lol

and when was the last time i heard of this, that mobile phones will outdo handhelds, yeah i remember, its when the first ipad is released and followed by powerful smartphones...

Phones should just focus on being someones primary way to call and text people. Tablets for internet functions and applications for work, home and schools.

What they mean is that it will be a "primary market" as everyone pretty much will have a smartphone by 2016.

Hardware will still be ages behind consoles, and computers. Will not effect console/PC game sales at all.

Personally I'd guess the Mobile game boom will show significant decrease by 2016. Even now appstore is getting cluttered with bad games and clones of those games, and good ones are having trouble gaining any visibility due to the ever growing competition.

If Sony is open enough for indie devs and Ouya succeeds we might actually see new huge boost console games and portable gaming consoles.

As technology moves on there is no reason why they couldn't have a fully functioning console inside a phone, as long as it can connect wirelessly or with a wire to a TV. But it will be a while before this will happen, as it would be a digital only console which I believe is a long way off yet.

I like your comment is it just me or since the whole smartphone craze has begun i actually download a lot less mobile games now due to the fact they are all adopting the free to play and win model.
Mobile games are about taking advantage of the addictive gene inside all humans and the ability to pay to win triggers something in us that makes us wanna win and be better then the next person, we get self satisfaction knowing we not only won but we are better then someone in another form i.e. deeper pockets.

Its really hard to explain but i hope someone gets my drift and another thinng the younger you are the more prone you are to the addiction.

Let me give you a crazy ass example.
I downloaded Monopoly Hotels (from EA) cause I love all things Monopoly. I would mind spending 5, hell even 10 bucks on an app game. But I want the full game.

Guess how much it was to buy 90000000000000 Gold coins or whatever it was?

$99 dollars.
100 bucks to play a dumb-ass, silly doll house game. WTF is that!I laughed, and I erased this abortion right from my KIndle.

If this is the future of gaming, count me out.

There will be a ton of mobile devices, so I get that, but I don't think it replaces consoles or dedicated handhelds. It's just that the market will be saturated with them, and thus they will be the majority.

The articles title is a bit misleading because it's not really insinuating that consoles are dying, just talking basic numbers.
