Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned, Again, From the Wii U Games Drought

Nintendo Life: So here's the deal, Wii U owners. The next notable exclusive for the platform isn't due until late June — when Game & Wario hits North America — and then Pikmin 3 hits the same region on 4th August. The eShop DLC-exclusive New Super Luigi U comes in the summer at an undefined point; if you're in Europe, by the way, dates are still needed for all of these games. A host of other titles look exciting — and were expected by now — but have no release date yet so, hold tight, yeah?

Nintendo definitely did seem unprepared for the Wii U's launch (which is weird considering they actually delayed it initially). Hopefully they can get it into gear and get those games out ASAP.

LOL_WUT4011d ago

It a launched a year too early IMO ;)

With that said i'm still looking forward to what they have to show.

lilbroRx4011d ago

The only reason the PS4 and the Xbox3 are launching this year is because the Wii U launched last year and they don't want Nintendo to get to far ahead.

Microsoft is reportedly 6 months behind on development for the next Xbox and they are still rushing to launch this year. Sony hasn't even come out with a design for the PS4 and they are launching this year. They are desperate to get their next gen consoles.

If Nintendo gets the games out in good time, its a done deal for them. They are set ahead for the next 5 years.

"they don't want Nintendo to get to far ahead. "

ROFL with the current state of Wii U sales i doubt that they are worried about that.

"Microsoft is reportedly 6 months behind on development for the next Xbox and they are still rushing to launch this year."

Unconfirmed rumors which doesnt prove your point.

"Sony hasn't even come out with a design for the PS4 and they are launching this year."

Of course they didnt because they are manipulating the press by getting them to talk about this non stop. The exterior design of the console has been finalized already and you will see it at e3. Dont worry the PS4 will come out at the end of this year like Sony said.

" They are desperate to get their next gen consoles. "

Nope they are prepared to launch the PS4 and they said already that they will have over 30 games at launch for it.

"“This will also lead to the main difference with the PS3 era,” he said. “The main difference is, we will have many titles for launch. Because game development is easier, there shouldn’t be a barrier as there had been previously." Mark Cerny

If Sony made their console difficult to develop for like Nintendo then they wouldnt be saying this at all. Expect a full onslaught of PS4 games at launch and after due to the ease of development for the platform (something Nintendo should have done instead of using PowerPC and a tri ram configuration -DDR3, SRAM, eDram-)

"If Nintendo gets the games out in good time, its a done deal for them. They are set ahead for the next 5 years."

Yep but only if Nintendo stops concentrating on the 3DS and focuses their attention on the Wii U.

Anyways i honestly dont believe that the Wii U will be as successful as the PS4 and the 720 and due to the weak hardware it will miss out on a ton of 3rd party games (like the Wii) but the console will sell to fans of Nintendo which is why it wont outsell the PS4 or the 720.

lol
do u actually believe the things u just said?

smh

What is the new Nintendo policy nowadays? Denial or Ignoring facts?

PS4 ain't competing with Wii U...
When the PS3 hits the $199.00 price point this year you know what that means for Wii U.

Nintendo is just starting to scratch the surface of HD gaming and needed help from Japanese 3rd party devs just to make HD games. While PS3 has mastered HD console games development for seven years now.

Nintendo haven't even shown us any game as high quality as 2009's Uncharted 2.

If u ask me the Wii u is about 7 years to late. And before anyone starts calling me a troll I bought two Wii u systems day one and will jump on MH3 with anyone to prove it

i just hope nintendo has a plan to have a series of AAA titles for wii u in 2013. If not they might be in trouble.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga3d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas3d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
