Lack of Wii U games due to Nintendo's values

Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata, has sad that the slow, thin release schedule of games for the Wii U was deliberate by Nintendo. It was a choice they made that is in line with the company's values.
Those values are rigorous, high standards to create "carefully developed" experiences. Speaking with investors in a call that followed Nintendo's recent financial results, Iwata addressed the less-than-stellar performance of the Wii U. Ultimately, he acknowledged that the release schedule has had an adverse effect on the Wii U's sales, but it was because of choices that Nintendo deliberately made.

Like the Article and the Meme at the bottom of the page.

While I would rather have a great game than just a game or decent game; this is unfortunate (but who doesn't know that).

I really hope that once they release the games that for PR Sake, explain IN DETAIL what they were working on during the wait.
I hope that the games are great and that the before and after scenarios they lay-out are drastic differences.

Drastic like a Weight Watchers commercial in reverse.

They are certainly heaping a ton of pressure on themselves. I really hope that when the games eventually come they are the level of quality we have come to expect from Nintendo.

But didn't they say they wanted with this console third party support because they were aiming at the core audience.

So wheres the third party support...

EDIT: @Below

True but I don't think people understand this

Your right they need to let go of their old ways but with Iwata running things....I highly doubt it. Nintendo are stuck in the past.

Axonometri4006d ago

They are all too busy with Next-Gen PS4 and Xbox platforms. Who is going to gamble time and money into a platform that is under-performing in sales and tech?
It was vital for Nintendo to quickly and firmly grasp 3rd party support and maintain it. That has not happened. I think Nintendo needs to truly evolve and let go of old ways or it wont be able to make up lost ground.

PigPen4006d ago

Ha, that is why more games coming for current gen then next. Like they will move from a 100+ million consoles (X360,PS4) to quickly jump next gen with 0 consoles. Lol

Baka-akaB4006d ago (Edited 4006d ago )

Why yes of course , nothing to do with everyone including 1st party studios caught of guard by the console being rushed to the market to get some foothold before the competition .

And i'm sure you were carefully re-releasing stuff like Majora HD or wind Waker hd as part of the main dish /s

i'll not dispute the quality of some , no most of your games , but enough PR BS , wake me up when something actually happens at e3 or tgs .

MilkMan4006d ago

Have to agree. Where's the games Iwata?

Root4006d ago

Very well said Baka

"wake me up when something actually happens at e3 or tgs"

Well luckily we have Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart U, Xenoblade 2, Super Smash Bros U, Zelda U and the game Retro is working on.

However this is why I wanted them to have a big E3 conference, those games deserve a big spotlight. I'd understand if they had nothing to show but they do.

Satoru Iwata will be Nintendo downfall. The man got lucky with the Wii in terms of hardware sales. As time passed you started seeing Wii's on the top of closet shelves collecting dust as third party support dwindled and major 1st party releases becoming more rare by the month, Wii shop can only support a system for so long.

Iwata had the opportunity to release a future proof consoles and build on third party relationships. What does Iwata do? Release a system that is only able to compete with the current Gen hardware alienating more third party developers. What do developers scream about? More power, more ram, more tools to help them create their software, something Nintendo clearly aimed low for. This hardware mistake, and third party handling will only get worst when next gen game engines come out and the Wii U is not included.

Bottom line Satoru Iwata needs to resign, Nintendo needs new leadership that knows how to keep third party developers happy and bridge the hardware gap. Well I'm atleast glad to see Iwata stepping up and answering tough questions instead of deferring to Reggie A. Speaking of Reggie, I would love to see what he can do on his own startup company, smart man dealing with the buffoonery of NOJ.

those games (well abyo 2 , xeno 2 , metroid and mario kart) are why i got a wii u . But it was obvious there werent even showable beside tibdits and teaser .

I hope to see them again in length , but i've sensing that even by now nothing concrete will be ready . i'd expect instead the more known ip to show up playale or in true gameplay feed form at e3 and tgs .

I find it weird that Nintendo couldnt get a decent launch window line up. They stopped working on wii game since the release of DKCR.

I think Nintendo got caught of guard by the HD transition. Take for example Monolith it counts 90 something people spread out over 3 teams, so unless they want to launch X in 2015 they better start hiring more.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on
