I feel that Dark Souls never gets enough praise beyond the fact that it's an actual challenge. To the point where you just end up super frustrated. It's a little unfair really. I'd like to address that by stating that YES. It has a plot to it. Yes there's more to a story than cut scenes and dialogue.

There's a deep world there - but it's up to you to see it.

Bioshock, The Darkness, Alan Wake, Assassin's Creed 2, Heavy Rain, TWD Telltale (I really loved it).

That's it?

No Deus Ex
No KOTOR
No Spec Ops the line
No Red Dead Redemption
No Warcraft 3
No Ico

Not to mention the others. This is more of a random list then a top list.

The funny thing is, even if your games don't make my own top 5 list (Planescape, Bioshock, BG2, Braid, Gabriel Knight) each of your mentions still tops all the other games in that list combined.

Some of these games have the narrative depth of a Mario game, whereas others have absurd writing. The only game there with solid writing all the way through is To The Moon.

GTA San Andreas
Uncharted 2
inFamous 2
God if War 3
Jak 2

^ Those are 5 games that had stories that I genuinely liked.
This latest Generation has given us some well fleshed out stories. It's only going to get better.

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
