What is good DLC and bad DLC?

I think paid DLC can be good, if it adds a new dimention or something extra to the game.

The GTAIV DLC would be an example of good paid DLC. It adds a lot, it changes some fundamentals of the game.

Bad paid DLC is things like map packs that split an online community.

xbox 360 gamers is the anwser to your question aaronobst. thats all they hyped at the start of this gen is xbox lives dlc and timed dlc's and exclusive dlcs. they embraced everything thats been going wrong in the name of console wars. they embraced 60 dollars online fees, dashboard and ads all over the x360 interface, on disk dlc. getting consoles banned for doing nothing, rrod, etc. and pc gamers and nintendo gamers joined xbox360 fanboys instead of being on the ps3 side like they should have. now they got sim city drms and diablos crap drms and such. nice one pc gamers.

Good DLC is something that adds to a game without taking away from it if you decide not to purchase it.

Bad DLC is something you need to buy to full yexperience a game. EG good DLC = anything done by Rockstar (Gta 4 was great, red dead redemption : undead nightmare was great)

Bad DLC = most things by Activision - map packs for COD online, Skylanders (mainly because it's on disc DLC which is absurd)

I prefer my DLC to come in expansions packs, like GTA/Fall Out/Dragon age's ''Awakening'' etc

But I honestly believe that the best DLC are expansions that add a ton of content to the game instead of just armor (horse armor) or buffs that make the game easier (Dead Space 3)

The MGS4 DLC (mgo) has some of the worst DLC I have ever seen. Not only was it horribly priced, but it wasn't purchasable through the PS store. I couldn't pass on the Dark Souls DLC though. It's just too good.

Can't say I agree with that in regards to MGO. If memory serves correctly you paid £3.99 and got 3 maps and two new characters like Liquid and Mei Ling. Konami done this 3 times so you paid a grand total of £12 for 9 maps and 6 characters.

Compare that to Black Ops 2 which is £12 for 3 maps, and there are another 3 packs to come and they've already announced the next game. Puts it into perspective of what truly bad DLC is.

I must obviously be wrong about the DLC for MGO, but you're also wrong about Black Ops. There was an expansion a friend shared with me that contained 4 maps and 1 Zombie map. A bit overpriced? Yeah, but I liked that map pack and got it for free.

Warhawk is maybe a game we can agree on? £5 for one map. 15 pound for all 3 if you bought them separate. I enjoyed the first 2, but that put me off DLC.

Ahh I think the 4th map you speak of in BLOPS2 is Nuketown? If so it was included free in an update as I never pay for DLC on CoD games but I now have that map. I never play Zombies so never noticed that was a map in the DLC as well.

*edit no wait you're right, it is indeed 4 maps. Still, £12 is a bit much for me.

£5 for a single map is a bit of a joke, almost as bad as the DLC on Dead or Alive 5. Pay £5 for costumes for 3-4 characters, you can't select costumes for specific characters so you may find 3 costumes are for characters you don't even like which leaves you paying £5 for an outfit, blinding!

I was referring to Blops1, but I hear blops2 maintains the same pattern when it comes to map count. I haven't played properly since Blops1 because no other CoD compares :(

That costume DLC is absolutely shocking. I think you win with that one lol. Capcom and their Disc Locked content is another good example and I hear SF X Tekken has some horrid DLC too. Bad times.

I like DlC when it's done right, but that's far too rare.

I think CDPR has done DLC better than any company. Not only do they add lots and lots of extra content to the game, but it's completely free.

BAD DLC:

Expensive map packs.

Expensive pointles accessories or early unlocks etc

Content that could have been part of the main game at launch.

Content that is ready/comes with the game at launch but is locked away or sold separatively.

GOOD DLC:

Adds a few enjoyable hours to singleplayer.

Adds to the multiplayer without dividing the community.

Adds something new entirely, like new co-op or mp mode.

Any free dlc.

but with warhawk new maps you got new vehicles and game modes and such and they had free updates to give everyone new wepons and warhawk skins and such. also each map was actually multiple maps in one for depending on the size you choose and or map type. also warhawk maps last longer as theres so many ways to play. i probably spent more time on the few warhawk maps they have then i have on all other mp maps combined because warhawk gameplay and maps are just timeless. they need to rerelease warhawk complete edition for free on the ps4 where everyone can play on them dlc maps but with the classic gamepla from the original release. the apc/drop ship and jetpacks were cool but the classic release of warhawk was just to perfect with the free wrench update and bio field generator.

if you treat DLC like expansions
like in TES oblivions it added the....was it shivering isles? anyways it added a new area to explore and some sidequests and overrall it was a fine addition to the world

Good dlc is the kind that developers make because they're passionate about their game and want to add a new twist to it.

Bad dlc is when its made just to squeeze some more money out of the customers.
