RUMOR: Star Trek: The Video Game Getting Fake User Reviews and Forum Postings

Recently there have been many people abusing the Metacritic user reviews to give a game ridiculously low scores without buying the game. With the newly released Star Trek game however, there is an issue that is all the more worrying.

Sad that publishers still think that high Metacritic score = high sales. And this practice of creating fake accounts (if true) just makes me want to boycott any products by the developer. And possibly Namco-Bandai if they were to do the same thing with other games.

Also, I've always thought that you should have to buy the game before reviewing it on Metacritic. Maybe you can be required to put in your PSN ID or XBox LIVE ID or Steam ID, and be required to have earned at least one trophy/acheivement to write a review or at least score the game. That way your review will reflect that you have at least played the game and people will know that you're not just hating on a game that you haven't bought. Doesn't solve fake developer accounts though. Just a thought.

Personally I don't care at all if publishers are going on metacritic and giving themselves good user-critic scores. Because FAR more people go on metacritic and give low user-critic scores for games they've never even played, just because they don't personally care for the franchise (so they never would have bought it anyway), or are a fanboy for a competitor, or just one of a legion of internet BS artists......it's rediculous, and a FAR bigger problem to the industry (for parts of the industry that put any stock into internet user-reviews on metacritic at this point...they shouldn't because "user critics" have discredited themselves by lying since they have anonymity).

The article points out that users have been doing this on metacritic all this generation, but it passes that off as nothing, but tears apart publishers for trying to counter bitter fanboys of various things ripping apart their products unfairly, and for no good reason other than being an angry, bitter, troll.

Basically, "users" have turned metacritic user scores into a completely useless, unfunny joke of a consumer service database, which no longer has even the slightest bit of credibility (the average itself)......so who cares if publishers are doing it too? IT JUST DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU TAKE A DUMP IN A CESSPOOL.

Game looks good for me... reviewers are bunch of asses..

The game is not that good...not for $60. It's so elementary in its nature, which explains why my son loves playing it (the joy of redbox!) Clean up the few explitives and you've got a kid-friendly game realistic enough beyond Ratchet and Clank, yet hokey enough to keep a younger audience.
Co-op is fun, not because of the game, but because of the time spent gaming with my son playing something other than LBP.

I don't think I have ever been to the Metacritic site.

Yes yes I'm down to play this so badly.

Oh, f$%&! They better not mess this up. Trek is miles better than any other Sci-fi franchise.

JackBNimble192d ago

I agree, at the same time no one can seem to make a decent StarTrek game.

I'm with you ... they better not fk this up

Keep up the good work!

They listened and made a physical version of Star Trek Resurgence, which I've pre-ordered, and I hope they make this new game both offline friendly and physical as well!

Immediate reaction - excited for new story driven Star Trek game.

Then I go and check GameXcite's website and see that the only thing they have released are a few Asterix games.

Set expectation to low

This is very cool. I played many versions of Super Star Trek, some text based and some with rudimentary graphics. Back in the day, you’d get games like this off a floppy disk from a friend. I also played the 25th Anniversary Star Trek game. Cool to see a melding of the two.

This fan remake of a Star Trek text game from 1978 is way better than it has any right to be

Super Star Trek 25th is a remake / conversion of the strategy game Super Star Trek, written by Bob Leedom and David Ahl and published in the book BASIC Computer Games in 1978, mixed with the graphics of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and the voices from ST The Original Series
