How Infinity Ward Can Turnaround the Call of Duty Series

Gadget Mill: Lately we have gone back to playing the Call of Duty series on our PS3. This includes games such as the legendary Call of Duty 4 up to the latest Black Ops 2. As you would probably know Black Ops 2 is packed with way more features and customisation in comparison to Call of Duty 4 which is more or less plain and simple in comparison. However with that said and to be honest we seemed to be enjoying ourselves way more playing the classic COD4 in comparison to the other later titles.

Our first instinct for this was that it was all down to nostalgia reasons – playing old maps such as Crash, Crossfire etc. Doing so did have a slight impact on our feelings towards the game. But the more we played COD4 the more it felt fluid and balanced. So we decided to give Black Ops 2 a shot again to figure out what went wrong; after all Treyarch did emphasise how balanced Black Ops 2 was meant to be right?

Turn around? People are still buying it so they must be doing something right. If it ain't broke....

aliengmr4008d ago

That may be, but its hard to claim it needs a "turnaround" when it stomps the competition yearly.

hakis864008d ago

They shoud take a break, for a few years. The buzz when they "returned" would be absolutely insane.
Personally I got tired of COD a few years back.

B-radical4008d ago

Oh but it is broken.......And with the ammount of times they release a new one dumb people are getting broke! They should release one every 2 years imo put some effort in it know what i mean yeah?

liquidhalos4008d ago

No, I don't know what you mean, your comment is almost unreadable. This isn't a personal dig at you or anything. Sometimes however, punctuation is needed to help the reader understand what you mean.

No matter if u love or hate cod it still sells like crazy but a new engine and some dedicated servers would do this game wonders.

Parasyte4008d ago

That and getting rid of quickscoping.

BlackCarrot4008d ago

@Parasyte: you're taking the game far too seriously. It's supposed to a be fast paced, a bit silly, easy to get into, spray and pray game. It's an arcade game.

I love Battlefield but that's a serious game for serious people, sometimes I just want to get a grenade launcher, a rocket launcher, some claymores and hear people rage.

Yes, we all know COD is getting stale but its gunplay is still tight. I think this article is bang on the money, but personally I still feel COD has to do something groundbreaking, something special, to get gamers back on its side. COD has lost the "wow" factor COD4 had because we've seen it so many bleeding times.

I'd also like a return to WWII.

deadlydragon1214008d ago

Yeah personally I hate the whole quickscoping concept too - but then again I find quickscopers easy prey!

Klonopin4008d ago

They can start with a new graphics engine.

Ken224008d ago

1.New engine
2.Dedi servers
3.Remove KS
4.Remove "Aim assist".
5.Remove perks.

Donnieboi4008d ago

I don't care for games that use a kill-streak type system, BUT removing Killstreaks would alienate the entire COD fanbase. Killstreaks are the arcadey type of things COD players love to see in the series. The only other solution is to jump ship to Battlefield, if we're going by your list.

And btw, I did jump ship, right after the REAL Infinity Ward left.

Ravenor4008d ago

How many console games do you think don't use aim assist? The correct Number #4 would be, not make it so blatant.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.
