Nintendo Miiverse Now Available on Smartphones, Still Requires a Wii U

by Shawn Ingram

Miiverse, the social network Nintendo introduced on the Wii U is now available on the web for smartphones and desktops, though it has a few limitations.

The Miiverse is Nintendo’s way of letting gamers communicate with each other in and out of games. The network creates hubs for each individual game that supports it, where gamers can converse. Users can post hints or comments about games to the service, and they will show up in games for other users.

I like the way Nintendo only allows Wii U users to use Miiverse, it's a great way of keeping out the trolls.

MilkMan4017d ago

Yup, I used it this morning.

Gives people an incentive to buy a Wii U if they want to use MMii Verse.

I know what i said sounds dumb but consumers are known to do stupid things.

I currently have a love/hate relationship with Miiverse, i love the idea of it, a place to share game information, help others with game tips and hints, etc..., but i hate the way the community uses it right now, anytime someone asks for help with a game or something it goes unanswered, but if someone draws a picture or leaves a comment about how great Nintendo is they get hundreds of yeahs and replies. Its backwards right now, hopefully more people buy the wii u and the community grows up a little so the Miiverse can really becomes something special

exfatal4017d ago

that's bullshit and you either know it, or you are talking outta you're ass and never been on thr miiverse b4. anytime i post a question regarding a game im normally answered in 30 mins tops. Miiverse if anything is a helpful community at the least.

Man calm the hell down, first off I didn't trash the service, so why are you all butt hurt? as i said "I" have a love hate relationship with the service, if you love it, cool for you, but for me all "I" see when "I" go on is drawings and Nintendo praise getting all the yeahs!. Ive seen plenty of post about how do you pass this part, or where can i find this item with no replies, meanwhile a drawing of Zelda in a different games group mind you is responded to like crazy, now if you want to be a fan boy and act like that never happens, cool do you, but I know what "I" have seen

"At this time, a Nintendo Network ID can only be created on a Wii U console. (It is different from a Club Nintendo account.)"

So looks like their network is limited to Wii U users. I was thinking they were going to "expand the network users" when they brought Miiverse to PC and phones. They would have had more traffic and more traffic is more people talking about the Wii U.

How would it benefit the Miiverse users to have random people who don't even play or care about Nintendo games on Miiverse?

KrisButtar4017d ago

I figured it would be a great way to show people about it. Get them interested and talking about this social network(some hype), and let them see what amazing things people have done in Miiverse. Free way to advertise about nintendos new console. Might also help with sales.

MyNutsYourChin4017d ago

Well, that sounds nice I guess, but Miiverse wasn't created to be a living advertisement.

Non wiiu owners can only see a small 'demo' type miiverse in the homepage, so they can have a taste of it.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Online is the New Miiverse

With its new ways of both creating and sharing user-made content, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has become the unexpected successor to Nintendo’s beautiful disaster of a social media experiment Miiverse.

Miiverse was insanity, and it was hilarious. It had a super strange community, there’s a bunch of YouTube videos about it.
I have smash ultimate, but haven’t checked out the new update. I’ll for sure take a look.

Snookies121827d ago (Edited 1827d ago )

I'm interested to check it out as well. Haven't played Smash in a while now... I think it was my issues with having multiple people play at once. The controller drifting and input lag was terrible. Not sure if they fixed that yet, but it was a pain to play when I had 3-4 friends on at the same time.

Gemmol1827d ago

Send your switch in not everyone have that issue, only one that listed that others experience is drifting issue but input lag and playing with 4 people do not have any issues

A Miiverse Eulogy: So Long to the First True Social Video Game Platform

The Miiverse gave myself, and so many others, a platform unlike any console had ever seen before. For once, our reactions to games, both about them generally and in the moment-to-moment, were given life in the games themselves. The Miiverse's concept was novel, fresh, new. It felt like the first true social video game platform. And it's a shame that it was for a console that hardly anyone actually played.
