Star Trek: The Video Game Review | The Globe and Mail

The Globe and Mail: "I tried to like the game, both because I’m something of a fan of the series and out of patriotism for London, Ont.-based developer Digital Extremes. It’s evident that some serious effort went into parts of Star Trek, but some of the key elements – like how the game looks and plays – got short shrift. At best it’s a mess that looks and feels dated, and at worst it is frustrating and unplayable."

The trailers made it look like an action game ala Mass Effect

maniacmayhem4012d ago

Ouch...

Seriously..why do devs even try with Movie tie in games?

jakmckratos4012d ago

Well that sucks. I really don't think there will ever be another decent movie tie in game...I think they've been working on this game for 2 or 3 years..

If someone does a Star Wars game it probably needs to be an RPG type game, but I'm not sure about leveling. There needs to be Space combat not on rails, which I guess you could level up the enterprise. There needs to be dialogue in the realm of what Bioware can do. Say the wrong things to the Romulans and war can actually break out, things like that.

A good game is doable, but it would take alot of dedication.

The first sentence says Star Wars, but it should say "Star Trek"

You almost induced geek rage, but I forgave your mistake as I shy away from conflict and prefer diplomacy. Like Jean Luc Picard. Who is better than Kirk anyway. Especially when Kirk is Christopher Pine.

If your a fan of JJ Abrams reboot Star Trek you'll love the game ! It's not Bioshock quality but its pretty good Looking game and fun , sure there some werid bugs but I'm having fun with it till into darkness hits May 15th ! I got early screening tickets , ya I'm a HAGE fan of this reboot

Im considering picking it up but I was wondering hows the story?

I love Star Trek so I can put up with some bugs glitches and dodgy gameplay if its got an entertaining narrative.

iGamerZero244011d ago

Ya no problem buddy !

It takes place between the 2 movies and the story is about new Vulcan begin attacked with a virus and the missions has you jumping from planet to planet and there's some hints about into darkness in the game ....... It's a game for Star Trek "reboot" fans and I was a HUGE fan of the Orginal series and movies ! Didn't care for next generation, deep space or voyager

Yes yes I'm down to play this so badly.

anast193d ago

Oh, f$%&! They better not mess this up. Trek is miles better than any other Sci-fi franchise.

JackBNimble193d ago

I agree, at the same time no one can seem to make a decent StarTrek game.

I'm with you ... they better not fk this up

Solitariussaint193d ago

Keep up the good work!

They listened and made a physical version of Star Trek Resurgence, which I've pre-ordered, and I hope they make this new game both offline friendly and physical as well!

Immediate reaction - excited for new story driven Star Trek game.

Then I go and check GameXcite's website and see that the only thing they have released are a few Asterix games.

Set expectation to low

An old text-only strategy game remade with the graphics of the point-and-click adventure. The new version is now fully playable with a mouse only (also touch screen on Android tablets), but also with a keyboard only. You can also play with a controller by mapping cursor keys and Enter on the correct key.

This is very cool. I played many versions of Super Star Trek, some text based and some with rudimentary graphics. Back in the day, you’d get games like this off a floppy disk from a friend. I also played the 25th Anniversary Star Trek game. Cool to see a melding of the two.

This fan remake of a Star Trek text game from 1978 is way better than it has any right to be

Super Star Trek 25th is a remake / conversion of the strategy game Super Star Trek, written by Bob Leedom and David Ahl and published in the book BASIC Computer Games in 1978, mixed with the graphics of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and the voices from ST The Original Series
