Capcom: Spark got Lost Planet 3 job because 'good' developers wouldn't want it

Spark Unlimited was given the job of developing Lost Planet 3 because "'good' developers" wouldn't have wanted to work on the IP, the game's producer has suggested.

"We really needed to find a developer that could work on a collaboration," Andrew Szymanski told VideoGamer.com, while explaining the reasons why Capcom chose to outsource Lost Planet 3 to Spark. "I think that what a lot of people don't realise... is, some of the best-known developers - or quote, unquote, the 'good' developers, if you want to call it that - for good reason they want to work on the stuff they want to work on.

...You couldn't resist, could you. Companies have their reasons for not doing other companies' IP's. For example, Gearbox could've developed a Call of Duty title, but because they feel their creative freedom would be stifled, they shunned it.

Cod is a shitty IP aswell hasnt changed a bit since Cod 4 and even re-uses the same areas, i wouldnt want to work on that. Plus Kotick doesnt allow creative freedom at work, unless he can sell it.

Many developers can only dream of working on CoD. Gearbox is just big enough and has a few good IPs of their own, they would rather explore.

In a nutshell what is being said is, "good" developers or should that be "more successful" developers are more likely to present their own IPs rather than want to work on existing IPs. Spark was available to collaborate on this project.

I second this, I enjoyed the first one a lot. Was a fan, but then the second one came out and they took out the story and focused too much on multi-player.

Which would have been ok, if it was a good game.

So, second round is still waiting for me on the shelf after I got it for $10. There are far better games I would rather play so it will have to wait indefinitely.

the first one back in 2007 was a good game even though the movements were too stiff. i quite liked it even if nothing happens other than walking and shooting but definitely not a game i would recommand today cause it got old too fast.
in the same style (but MUCH BETTER) i recommand Vanquish

Misleading headline for sure, but I remember when Spark unlimited was rumored to be working on Star Wars Battlefront 3, and they were teasing people on Twitter about working on a "Sci Fi Shooter", what a let down.

if you but any game with the Crapcom name on it, you deserve whatever piece of incomplete POS you get. We all know how they do things so to support them and then complain about it is stupid. RE5 was the last Crapcom game I will ever buy.

Does anyone remember during the PS1 days when Crapcom released the RE: Directors cut? It was the same exact game as the original release with no additional content like it was supposed to have. Which they finally fessed up to a month or so later.So them screwing & ripping off their customers is nothing new. I personally just got to the point where enough was enough and I chose not to spend my money on their products anymore.

I thought I got a good value out of Resident Evil 6 for PC. $40 including the pre-order bonus is nice. RE.NET is also a nice addition: the community events and support for their PC Version shows they're taking cues from Valve.

I agree that Capcom overall is pretty shitty (still bitter over Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Megaman Legends 3) but I acknowledge a good move when I see it. They still suck though.

why even bother if this is the case. if you have to outsource something then just dont do it at all! cause when it fails and you want to blame the dev you CANT cause its still your fault! the choice to outsource is the point of origin for the failure
