Cerny: PS4 Launch Lineup “is Going to be Stronger Than any Prior PlayStation Hardware

With E3 still a little while away, the exact details of the PS4′s launch are a complete mystery – games like Primal Carnage, inFamous: Second Son and Killzone: Shadow Fall are probably going to be there, but past that, who knows?

Speaking to Gamasutra, the PS4′s lead system architect and Knack developer Mark Cerny revealed:

The launch lineup for PlayStation 4 — though I unfortunately can’t give the title count — is going to be stronger than any prior PlayStation hardware. And that’s a result of that familiarity [of hardware design].

Just imagine how many new nextgen titles will be revealed at E3 this year, both from Sony and Microsoft(well maybe not Microsoft as much as Sony but still).

I'm eager to see new IPs that will define nextgen, the way Uncharted, Gears, Heavy Rain, Littlebigplanet, Assassins's Creed etc did with current gen.

I'm hoping the developers blow my mind, pretty certain it will happen.

Me too the PS3 launch stateside was a disappointment. EU was a lot better thanks to the delay but it still wasnt great. This launch is already looking twice as good. Not just graphically though I'm talking quality.

after camping out for the PS2 & PS3 I am going to pass on the camp out & will just preorder from Amazon as soon as they let people do so.

I have so many PS3 games I haven't opened yet that I am in no rush for a new console but I also want to support the PS4 at launch like all previous PS consoles. So the preorder & wait until it shows up at my door works out well for me.

PS1 didn't have a stellar launch it was ok, PS2's launch sucked, PS3 was ok, PSP was decent, Vita had their best launch so far imo. Not hard to do but I do expect this to blow them all away so far. KZ being a launch title is amazing. I hope Planetside 2 is a launch title too, I don't see why it wouldn't be.

The PS Vita launch and PS3 launch were nothing special, so saying that it it's launch lineup is going to be "stronger than any prior playstation hardware" just tells me that it might be slightly better than it's predecessors.

It needs to be, I remember the PS3's launch was pretty lackluster, although I had some fun with Resistance and the online play was interesting.

It's one thing to promise a great launch lineup, but Nintendo said the same thing about the Wii U and we all know what happened with that.

What you are saying doesn't make any sense.Because they say the line up will be stronger and you don't think that the PS3 or VITA line up wasn't strong makes you conclude that it will be only slightly better then it's predecessors? So you have already somehow quantified how much stronger the line up will be and which line up they are referring to despite the fact that they said ANY PRIOR PlayStation hardware which includes the PS2 and PS1? Before you jump to negativity try making sense first. also yeah maldread really looking forward to infamous the most becuase a next gen open world super hero game with 8 gb of gddr5 ram is gonna be so amazing open world games beneifit greatly from more ram. the game world will be huge and the powers will probably be intertwined with the city like infamous 1 and 2. smoke powers reminds me of captain smoker from one piece. More Sony launch hype. Although I'm sensing a lot of cross plat games with only a few low profile exclusives. It probably wont matter since all the truly high profile games (i.e. New Call of Duty, Destiny, Metal Gear Solid 5, Gran Turismo 6, Assassins Cred 4 ect.) are going to be available on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It's gonna be a tough sell to get people to upgrade and may take some time. I'm expecting it to be at least a year into the PS4 until the first party AAA exclusives start popping up.

For me the PS1 launch is the one to beat. I was lucky enough to get a jap import on release but ridge racer blew me away. One game I know but what it ushered in was so much more important. Other launch software that stands out is N64 mario 64 and of course Halo on the Xbox. But for me and my memories Ridge Racer on PS was just wow. My memories of the time are just WOW! cant put it any other way. Unfortunately the way tech has become so ubiquitous I don't think I'll ever be impressed like that again.

Stronger doesnt mean larger.. Id rather there be a handful of fantastic games than a bunch of shovel ware.. I dont see a single bad launch title for the thing.. No casual games, no motion focused games, etc.. Im sold on PS4.. They have many titles i already want on launch day.. This console is going to be epic & its very possible that this thing ends up being similar to the PS2 as far as world wide domination goes
