Mario Kart Wii U Confirmed for Fiscal 2013

Today, Nintendo has revealed their financial results for the year ending 31st March 2013, and amongst them are some interesting details. A detailed analysis of Nintendo’s comprehensive release would reveal exactly that which Electronic Theatre has championed over the past few years – that Nintendo has a winning strategy, despite outward appearances – but perhaps more interesting is the revelation of several titles set to appear within the current financial year. Most notably, Mario Kart for the Wii U console.

nice yes but when will Nintendo invent new IPs?

jcnba284012d ago

Nintendo have over 30 IPs more than any other game developer. They don't need any new IP's because they keep reinventing them all the time.

95% of Sony and Microsoft's IP's on the other hand consist of shooting things and blowing them up...

mcstorm4012d ago

Nintendos IP range is big enough to not need them. The Playstation brand and Xbox brand are still new so they are still finding there feet with there own IP's. LBP is becoming the face of Sony and MC is Microsoft's face so they will build games around them. But look at what Nintendo do each gen and yes they may give the same IP's but we will only be on Mario Kart 8 yet we have had 6GT games since 1998 yet Mario Kart came out in 1992.

Its all swings and round about's when it comes to who needs new IPs and who needs to make less of a game each gen.

Brucis4012d ago

The Last Story, Xenoblade, and Pandora's Tower aren't new IPs?

BlackWolf4012d ago

Zangeki no Reingleiv
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Captain Rainbow
Dillon's Rolling Western
HarmoKnight

Just to name a few.

G20WLY4012d ago

Even just the 'old faithful' IPs at a decent rate would be nice at the moment.

This might not come out until end of March next year! It needs to be here sooner than that IMO for the sake of (existing and prospective) Wii U owners everywhere and I'd like to see a bit more commitment from Nintendo as to when this will be released.

All projects run to deadlines - stop keeping fans hanging!

Nevers0ft4012d ago

New IPs are fine and dandy so long as they don't get in the way of me and MarioKart! The Wii version STILL gets loads of play at my place, although Nintendoland and BLOPS2 are slowly supplanting it... This should put MarioKart back on top of the pile during our boozy game nights.

lilbroRx4012d ago (Edited 4012d ago )

"@when will Nintendo invent new IPs" every year like they've done for the past 25 years.

So far they have Wonderful 101 and Crashmo this year, with Measure Up and Wii U play coming later.

2013 They will probably have Monolith's X and Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem next year.

2012 They had Pushmo, Dillon's Rolling Western and Nintendo Land last year.

2011 They had Pandora's Tower and The Last Story the year before that.

2010 Xenoblade the year before that.

2009 Excitebots the year before that.

2008 Wii Fit, Wii Chase, Wii Chess, Fatal Frame 4 the year before that.

2007 Everybody Votes, Kororinpa, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics

2006 Excite Truck, Wii Sports

(There are tons more 1st party new I.P. in those years. These are just the one's I remember.)

Highlife4012d ago (Edited 4012d ago )

this will be the only wiiu game we get this year! Mario Kart is awesome.

This is all the nintendo is good for anyway. Mario Kart and Smash Bros.

AJBACK2FRAG4011d ago

I'm thrilled to death. If that doesn't turn things around I do not know what will. When the folks at Nintendo come up with new ideas they usually use their cast of chracters to express them. In my opinion.

this means we will see a lot of it at E3 in terms of how much they might show off.

evilunklebud4012d ago

this might compel me to look for a used wiiU...... might.

ARESWARLORD4012d ago

lol your funny evilunklebud used wii U with this line up might compel me to spend the PS4 money I have saved up on Wii u games instead.

evilunklebud4011d ago

I was being serious... imho, this device is currently not worth the price of admission, especially with the ps4 and the 720 on the verge of dropping.
Now, if they both drop the ball, I will reconsider the wiiU.... I certainly think the wii was worth having alongside my ps3 and 360... many happy hours with Galaxy.

sway_z4012d ago

Wii U is probably Nintendo's worst console launch ever!!

It's been 5 months since launch and all Nintendo fans have to get excited over is another Mariokart!!

...It's time the president of Nintendo Japan resigned. His position is untenable.

I am so fortunate to have had the good sense not to have fallen for the equivalent of a enhanced Fisher Price toy.

Terrible product marketing, terrible software drought and a completely novelty based controller, of which cost the Wii U competitive specification.

I expect disagree's from some of the ignorant Nintendo clan. But look! ...Look at the big picture!!

abzdine4012d ago (Edited 4012d ago )

i also think they completly missed it and i feel like they rushed to get it out way before PS4 or next xbox just like Wii. All this reminds me of Gamecube, no TV ads and poor line-up at launch but at least the Gamecube was the most powerful console when it released.

Regardeless of these problems if you look at the Wii U only as a game console it has some nice and promising features. Experience shows that Nintendo machines shouldn't be bought when they release, good games always come at least a year later, plus all the price cuts.

When i see people crying over Rayman (come on..Rayman??) exclusivity this shows how poor Wii U software is so far.

StraightedgeSES4012d ago (Edited 4012d ago )

If you have plans on getting the Wii U then why do you care what games are on the console.

I'm just saying if you are not interested in the console or have no intention of buying the console then what is the point of caring what the company does with their console? I dislike Microsoft, and don't agree with any of their business practices yet I don't go to every Xbox article to talk about how I dislike the xbox brand.

sway_z4012d ago (Edited 4012d ago )

Yes I do care....know why? ...because I was vaguely interested in getting Wii U early on, and I care about 'Gaming' on all systems in general.

I'm not having a pop at Wii U gamers, I'm having a pop at Nintendo, because they are too stubborn to learn from past mistakes.

They may be profitable, but beyond the spoils is a 'Game Culture'.

It's as if you're insinuating nobody should comment unless they purchased the product.

...But hey, if you like forking out $300 for uncompetitive hardware, waiting for what seems like ages (Sega) for the games....then don't let me stop you.

truechainz4012d ago

@Sway_z

you can't expect anyone to believe you were ever interested in the Wii U (or gaming in general for that matter) if you say stuff like the wii u is an enhanced fisher price toy. Not to mention asking the president to step down when clearly you don't know a damn thing about how video game business run

rick1woller4012d ago

sway_z has lost it. Theres plenty to look forward to

Moonman4012d ago (Edited 4012d ago )

The worst console launch is Kinect! MS and anybody who has touched it knows that 99% of it's games are still sad.

ChickeyCantor4012d ago (Edited 4012d ago )

"It's been 5 months since launch and all Nintendo fans have to get excited over is another Mariokart!! "

Regardless of launch line up. It's been a few years since a Console mario kart.

"I am so fortunate to have had the good sense not to have fallen for the equivalent of a enhanced Fisher Price toy. "

Oh I remember that when people called the Wii a fisher price toy. Trying to start the trend again?

"I expect disagree's from some of the ignorant Nintendo clan. But look! ...Look at the big picture!!"

Insulting people for being excited for a new mario kart. THAT'S ignorant.

"I'm not having a pop at Wii U gamers, "
^ lol

"It's as if you're insinuating nobody should comment unless they purchased the product. "
Yes! Let the ignorance flow.
It's your "I know it " better attitude and telling people what they should like. You're pretty much projecting here.

"...But hey, if you like forking out $300 for uncompetitive hardware, waiting for what seems like ages (Sega) for the games....then don't let me stop you."

Oh yes, cause every console was booming with 100 triple A games from the get go. Doom Glooming too much are we?

lilbroRx4012d ago

No, that would and always will be the VirtualBoy.

The Wii U has been Nintendo's second best launch.

Venoxn4g4012d ago

wow, I bet u forgot for how long PS3 didnt have many good games.. :D

AJBACK2FRAG4011d ago (Edited 4011d ago )

Lol! Most of the people that own one like it. I love my Wii U and consider it Nintendo's greatest home video console to date. I should know, I own all of them. For someone who extolls the virtues of looking at the big picture you come across small minded to me. Has the Wii U had a tough launch? Of course, but what makes you you dislike it sooo much that you come to this section of N4G to tell us something we already know? You're wasting your time. Wii U owners already know it's been a tough launch. We already know about the software lull. I really want to discuss the state of the Wii U after e3 with you. Mario Kart Wii sold 6 times the number of units than Gran Tourismo five did. What does that mean for the Wii U? Good things I'm sure. Believe me Mario Kart is something to get excited for but there's already been some excellent titles to come to the Wii U with many many more to come. Oh yeah, Sony execs. called the Wii a toy for years then copied the Wii remote completely! They called it Move. They should have called it "Wii remote". Mario Kart Wii actually sol in excess of sixty million copies. Nothing to get excited about though.

N4g_null4011d ago

Ok sway attack Mario kart because we know you are affraid of it. It represents a type of hardcore gamer that was the foundation of gaming. The nerdy skilled competitive gamers that thrived in arcades.

We know we know nintendo is not cool enough for you because you are too cool. It is not about image marketing or vocal minorities on the Internet it is and always will be about gaming.

It is my understanding that pop gamers are the casual ones. They talk a lot of crap but are not into the things they talk about. Sony has a lot of pop gamers, just look at god of war sales. Sony gamers don't like a challenge they want virtual playgrounds and soccer games where every one gets a trophy.

ARESWARLORD4012d ago

sway_z I don't own a 3ds and I have a 360 but don't play it. Im not on those pages leaving comments on a story that has F all to do with me. I am the most hardcore games you have ever met there Sway_z old boy been playing since the beginning of Video Games. Nintendo will not disappoint it will have awesome exclusives and in my past experience true gamers will buy the system and bitches will bitch.

ARESWARLORD4012d ago

Also there sway_z what's with the cheep shot on Sega?

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno71d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic102d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast101d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul101d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
