AMD Radeon HD 7990 Malta Sells For $96,100 On eBay

Gaming Blend "The biggest, baddest, most powerful video cards ever has been sold on eBay. The engineering sample of the card was let loose by eBay user wowbagger1234. He initially started selling the device for $30,000 but that price was curb-stomped by a lot of big eBay players who brought the final bid to a massive $96,100."

I find this story funny, because in probably 2 years from now, you'll be able to purchase a card with the same power for about $400.

I would say less and sooner. Nvidia's 14+ teraflop Maxwell GPU is due in 2014. It'll be expensive for sure for that top level performance.

However that will render this 8 teraflop effort virtually midrange in 18 months, tops! Part of the reason for that is also 7990 is way, waaay late to the party. GTX690 is nearly a year old.

I would put a fair bit of money down you'll be able to buy an 8 teraflop card by the end of next year, for less than $400. Maybe $399.99 lol.

You are aware the left side of that chart states clearly Gigaflops per Watt. Not Teraflops. Maxwell GPU is likely to break 5 Tflops though. Not 14 Tflops. We are not innovating that fast. By the time the PS5/XB4/NES7 are ready then maybe 14 Tflops.

The Biggest & Saddest geek in history had brought this. This geek is gonna be paying the debt for this for a very long time.

He'll probably commit suicide after he realizes the next big GPU to come out in the next 8-12 months will be near twice more powerful and cheaper.

Crazyglues4014d ago

Wait what??? Who buys a card for $96,100 that will cost $850 when it comes out next week...?

What did I miss here ???

I don't understand... -Someone Explain this to Me-

Ebay is full of dumbass's with lots of money.

cayleee4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

Well some dumbass bought the PS3 at launch for 50,000usd.

There is no reasoning with such people.

Conzul4014d ago

And will again with the PS4, as sure as I'm alive.

GetSnooked4014d ago

If paying $50 a year for Xbox Live is a rip-off, what do you call this??!

Motorola4014d ago

They are both a huge rip off thats what he is trying to say

RumbleFish4013d ago

Though I am not willing to pay for online gaming, I think it's everybody's decision to spend money on whatever is desired. If you have the money, and you like to do crazy things: there you go! :)

WUTCHUGUNNADO4014d ago (Edited 4014d ago )

Whats up with the Dual GPU vs Single GPU comparison thrown in at the end?

OH GOD... I just realized someone probably has a $100,000 rig right now. ._.
